I changed my insurance company last week and when they asked for a copy of my Matrix Tracking Installation Certificate, they said they couldn't accept it, as it showed the incorrect model of my car. I had not noticed this, as I watched the installation engineer take down the correct model of my car, therefore I would not expect a basic error like that on the insall certificate. I called their 'so called' Customer Care line, 10 times last week and the line just cuts off. I tried again yesterday and eventually reached someone. I have just spent 20 minutes on the phone with him, expalined their error and he could not could not find my car model from his list! He also said he could not add it manually, as it had to come from their database list. He checked 3 times, but still could not find the X5 M50i model, which is a very standard and popular model in SA. I had no choice but to tell him I would need to cancel my subscription, and I subsequently sent a cancellation email to the email address he gave me. I explained their error and that I have been left uninsured and can a manager call me urgently to discuss. I still have had no response. MORE IMPORTANTLY, my insurance company told me that because of their clerical mistake, I have essentially been driving around uninsured for the last 7 months, as my cover relies on having an active tracking system. Therefore, with Matrix Tracking put my car model down incorrectly, had I been involved in an accident, they would not have paid out, because Matrix Tracking put the wrong car model on the certificate. Given that the Matrix Tracking service advisor could not find my standard car model on the database, it would seem that, instead of your company investigating the error and fixing it, they decided to insert some random model intsead and leave me uninsured. My attorney feels confident that there is a strong case for negligence and breach of contract and I feel that this is worth pursuing.
Called them in Durban from Jo'burg for details on a Porsche 911. Described as 10/10 inside & out. Flew to Durban and it was nothing like 10/10. I found 5 key faults in 10 mins! AVOID
I called from Jo’burg with specific questions on a Porsche and was told the car was 10/10. I flew to Durban to find it was nowhere near 10/10. The car had 7 faults that I could find! DO NOT TRUST
I called Motor Pride in Durban in May 2025 and spoke to the owners son, Waseem, to discuss details of a Porsche 911 they had for sale. As I am based in Sandton and this was a 15 year old car as well as an expensive car, I needed lots of accurate, detailed answers to my questions, in order to understand whether this was the car for me. It is worth noting that I am experienced within the motor trade, having owned ancillary motor trade businesses, as well as having owned several Porsche cars, I knew what questions to ask! The son described the car as 10/10 (I actually wrote down all his answers to my questions on a print out of the car ad). I then received an unsolicited call from his father, Faizal, one of the owners, who proceeded to persuade me that they don’t just sell cars, they develop relationships with clients! He confirmed the 10/10 rating on all my main points and then offered to pay for my flight to Durban to view the car and if it was not right, would also cover my return flight. On the basis of their description, I agreed and sent him a R100k security deposit. Rather than them booking the flight for me, I was told I needed to organise it myself and they would refund (I should have picked up on that early flag). To give you specific details about the inaccurate description, I asked about the service history, as the advert stated Full Service History, and he confirmed that it had full history. However, when I arrived, I found out that it did not have Full Service History, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 years were missing, up until they had it serviced this year! I asked on the tel about the condition of the tyres and was told they were 10/10, his opinion was they were all like new. When I arrived the rear tyres were nearly bald at around 2mm and the fronts were around 5mm. I asked about the brake pads / discs and again they said they were 10/10. When I arrived I inspected with a torch and could see all 4 discs had obvious wear and they all had ‘wear lips’ around the edges, the pads were worn by 50%. I was told the cars bodywork and interior was exceptionally good. When I arrived I found the rear light bar was cracked, the left rear brake light lens was crazed/cracked, the driver side door window rubber was perished, the back seat backs did not lock into place, the rear active spoiler would not retract properly, the spare key was broken and the tyre compressor was missing. Additionally, the interior was a sea of scratches and scuffs. Essentially the car was nothing like the 10/10 they described. They said I had to remember it was a 15 year old car and I rep****, that is why I asked so many specific questions before I agreed to travel all the way to Durban to view the car! I was very unhappy about this, as it was a waste of a full day. I said I wasn’t prepared to complete the purchase and would need to consult some contacts in the motor trade to find out the cost of repairs. As the flight there only cost R580, and they reassured me that it would be very easy to just turn up at the airport and secure another cheap flight back to Jo’burg, I offered (out the goodness of my heart) to cover the cost of my return flight. When I arrived at the airport, I found out that there were no cheap flights available and was being quoted between R4-5k! I rushed around all the airlines and the cheapest I could get was R3,800. I also had to wait 5 hours at the airport for this flight and only just managed to get the last train back from OR Tambo. I was exhausted by the time I got home at 9.30pm. The following day, I did consult my auto contacts, who advised that the cost of repairs was going to be over R100k and that I should walk away. I contacted the owner with this info (as well as the awful experience at the airport and the return flight cost) and he would not revise the price to reflect those costs. I then asked him to honour his offer of covering the return flight costs, given that I had been lured to Motor Pride on false information. The only reply I received was for my bank details, nothing else. What happened to developing long term relationships with clients? The next thing I noticed was the R100k deposit refund, but not the return flight costs! I recontacted Faiz-l to reimburse the return flight costs but he has ignored me. There you are, a car sales operation that lured me all the way to Durban with a false description and no honour to make good on their promise of covering the travelling expenses.

Rather than them booking the flight for me, I was told I needed to organise it myself and they would refund (I should have picked up on that early flag). When I arrived at their showroom, the car was nothing like the 10/10 they described. There were 5 separate issues that completely contradicted their description of the car. I was very unhappy about this, as it was a waste of a full day. I said I wasn’t prepared to complete the purchase and would need to consult some contacts in the motor trade to find out the cost of repairs. DO NOT DEAL WITH THEM.
<div>URGENT: AVOID THIS DEALER AT ALL COSTS IF YOU HAVE A TRADE IN. If it was possible to choose zero stars, I would have. My original review was removed because they said I had entered personal information without consent. This is not true, I had only noted names of the guilty people, who all of you should be aware of. Clearly they are concerned that I had posted revealing truths about their bad practice. In essence, the salesman, always has to trot off to the Sales Manager, to get the decision on trade in figures, therefore it is fair to aim this account of my experience to him. I visited their East And dealership in late March 2025 with an X5 M50i to trade in, against a similar quality (albeit 2 years younger) model X6. They had been discussing my trade in with other dealers for c. A week and the majority of trade in offers I had received were between R1 - 1.1m. They wouldn’t give me a figure whilst I was there, they said they would let me know. And did they, an offer of R800k!! I was so angry but anyway I moved on a did trade the car for R1.1m a few days later. A little while later, I saw they still had the X6 I was originally interested in, so I made contact again by phone and told them about a different car I had the trade in. This 2nd salesman seemed very keen for me to drive over with the car to discuss, which I did (30 min drive!). After completing all the details, he asked to wait at his desk whilst he went to see his Sales Manager, for a trade in figure. When he returned, he said something very strange and familiar - Could he give me a call later with final figures 🤣🤣. Just so you readers know, just that morning, I had been offered R1.3m trade in value for this car of mine. When the call eventually came at 5.20pm (after I texted him at 5pm to remind him to revert before end of business) he sheepishly planed that they could only go to R1m as a trade in figure for my car. Now, it doesn’t take a genius to work out that on both occasions, with separate salesmen, (but the same Sales Manager), that they offered R300k less both times n 2 different cars……. If you are in the market to change your car and you are looking to trade yours in, I would URGE you to look elsewhere. They clearly operate that business by ‘lowballing’ customers trade in vehicles, that was certainly my experience on 2 separate occasions. BEWARE!!</div>
PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE YOU DEAL WITH THIS BMW DEALERSHIP! I feel I am reasonably qualified to provide an unbiased and honest review of treatment by 2 different sales people at this branch, as I have previously owned businesses within the motor trade. I approached BMW East Rand a few weeks ago with interest in an expensive used vehicle they had in stock and had for over 6 months, I had a similar value BMW to trade in and was told by the salesman Tommy, that having spoken to his Sales Manager, presumably, Shane Frandsen, that as there was a ‘comment’ on the car, they could only offer R***xx. To give you readers some context, this figure was R300k less that many other dealers had offered, including other BMW main dealers. I did then trade that car a few days later for the higher price. A few weeks later, I decided to re-approach them regarding their same car, as they still had it in stock, this time with a different BMW car of mine of higher value, newer, lower mileage and with no comments. The salesman, Sam Mashigo, took me to his desk where he searched my car value and showed me that it had a trade value of R1,745,000. After Sam returned from speaking to his Sales Manager, I presume, Shane Frandsen again, he said he would need to call me later with a trade in price. I thought that was very strange for a car dealer to allow a customer to walk out the showroom, when he’s already indicated that he wants to ‘do the deal’. I could definitely ‘smell a rat’ here and therefore it came as no surprise when I received a call from Sam saying that the best they could offer was R645,000 UNDER THEIR trade value!! The car was perfect, no comments, only 25,000 kms and had BMW Motorplan for another 16 months. He tried to defend this insulting offer on the basis that my car was a ‘niche’ car and that another dealer had a similar car at a lower price and therefore that was their justification. Even though my car was a different colour and spec, with mine much more desirable. This is twice now in the space of a few weeks that I have been badly treated and severely ’Low Balled’ with ridiculously insulting offers. I would absolutely urge anyone considering anything they have to offer, that you do your homework thoroughly and get alternative trade in offers for comparison. It is unacceptable that a main BMW dealer continues to get away with this behaviour.
