Computer Mania (Pty) Ltd
Scores reflect the Overall AI Score for each category
Based on recent customer reviews, Computer Mania (Pty) Ltd presents a highly polarised customer experience. While individual staff members at certain branches are repeatedly praised for going above and beyond, the business is significantly let down by its warranty and repair processes, poor communication on online orders, and inconsistent after-sales support. Customers consistently report extended repair timelines, lack of proactive communication, and frustration with product quality issues on items sold.

I had a very unpleasant experience when returning an HDMI cable I had purchased. The staff member assisting me had quite an arrogant attitude, making it feel as though accepting the return was a favour rather than part of normal customer service. Before purchasing the cable, I clearly explained what I needed it for, and the staff confirmed that this cable would work. However, when I returned it because it did not work as expected, the staff member made it seem as though the issue was my fault. When I bought the cable, no one informed me that the box needed to remain in exactly the same condition as when leaving the store. The box only had a small tear at the top where it opens, yet I was told that a 15% deduction would be app****. Although this was never communicated to me at the time of purchase, I did not argue about the deduction. However, the attitude and approach from the staff member made the experience very unpleasant, as it felt like they were doing me a favour instead of assisting a customer. After this experience, I would not recommend or use the Century City store again.

This is a formal warning to anyone considering using Computer Mania Stellenbosch. I dropped my computer off in November last year. I was issued a quotation (Ref: 00342048) and paid the full amount of R9,499. It has now been over 4 months (it is now March), and I have received absolutely nothing. No computer, no repair, and most importantly, no communication. I have sent multiple emails and texts every few weeks and have been met with total radio silence. They have effectively taken my R9,499 and kept my hardware with zero accountability. This is beyond "poor service," this is theft of service and gross negligence. If this is not resolved immediately, I will be escalating this to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO) and seeking legal advice. Avoid at all costs.

jacque , gareth On Friday, 6 March 2026, I visited the Computer Mania store at Irene Village Mall to submit my laptop for a quotation to have it repaired. The gentleman who assisted me, Raymond, was professional and advised that he would get back to me with a quotation. As I had not received any feedback, I called the store on 10 March 2026 to follow up on the quotation at 11.51 and spoke to either Jacque or Gareth Unfortunately, the person who answered the call was extremely rude. When I explained that I was calling to enquire about the quotation for my laptop, he responded by saying that he “did not break the laptop,” which was completely unnecessary and unprofessional. The call took place at approximately 11:51. The individual continued to speak to me in a rude manner and eventually ended the call abruptly by putting the phone down while I was still speaking. I am shocked that in 2026 customers are still treated in this way. Waiting several days for a simple quotation is already frustrating, but being spoken to rudely and having the phone put down on you is unacceptable. I would appreciate feedback from Computer Mania regarding this matter.

I bought a laptop in December 2024, an Asus vivobook. On the 12th January 2025, it started giving me fan problems. I took it back of which I had to fight to even get the laptop fixed. I’m sitting now March 2026 the laptop still have warranty it freezes, switches off. This laptop has never fallen before but the technician who fixed it didn’t tighten the *****s when he opened it last time. Some *****s are lost. I bought this laptop with my last money. I am so disappointed with the service. I can’t even take the pc back again because they don’t return your stuff when you take in for repairs. I’m with a used like new scarp laptop.

I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding the handling of my warranty repair by your Clearwater Mall branch. In January, I booked in my ASUS Zenbook S16, which I purchased brand new from Computer Mania Clearwater Mall for R43,000. After approximately one year of use, the display failed and the device was submitted for warranty repair at the beginning of January. Unfortunately, the service experience has been unacceptable. The laptop remained at the branch for over two weeks before being sent in for repairs, as the team had forgotten to dispatch it. Since then, I have repeatedly followed up on the status. I am continually being informed that there is no stock of the required display in the country and that there is no confirmed timeline for when stock will become available. I am also told that the supplier cannot provide clarity. It has now been nearly two months without resolution. A R43,000 laptop is a significant purchase, and such an extended delay with no clear solution is unreasonable. If the device cannot be repaired within a reasonable timeframe due to parts unavailability, I expect it to be replaced in line with your warranty obligations and the Consumer Protection Act. It is unacceptable that the machine has effectively had no meaningful progress for almost two months. I request a clear, written update on: • The confirmed status of the repair • A guaranteed repair timeline • The replacement process should parts remain unavailable I trust this matter will be escalated and resolved urgently. I look forward to your prompt response.

I bought my son's Chromebook in January 2025 at Mall of Africa branch and the machine has had numerous problems with charging port. To date, I have booked it four times and the manager does not want to take responsibility regarding the warranty. It is evident that the machine has serious manufacturer faulty. The last time booked it for repairs, it took 4 - 5 weeks causing extensive inconvenience. I wont recommend anyone to buy any item from the shop

On 30th July 2024 I purchased an upgrade kit (consisting of an AMD Ryzen 5 566X, 16gb 3200Mhz RAM, and an MSI B450M A Pro Max II motherboard) from Computer Mania Garden Route Mall. I took it home, installed it, and it worked perfectly fine until 3rd October 2025. I was playing a game that night when the pc froze and restarted and went into an infinite boot loop. What I thought was a windows 11 error after doing all the windows 11 updates, turned out to be a hardware issue. I tried all the basics to get it working again, but nothing helped. On the 7th of October 2025 I contact Michael on the online chat on the Computer Mania website, explained the situation and he said I need to email Steven Baguley who is the warranty officer for Computer Mania. I send Steven an email on the 7th of October 2025 and explain to him the situation. He replies to me and says the upgrade kit it still under warranty with the supplier until next year, being 2026. His exact words to me are: “That kit is still under warranty with the supplier until next year, please take it to the nearest Computer Mania store to be booked in and let them know you have been in contact with me” I take the upgrade kit into Computer Mania Garden Route Mall, and I explain the staff the situation and that I have spoken to Steven. They take my items and book it in for assessment. I get a WhatsApp message stating it’s been booked in on the 8th of October 2025. Here is where it gets messy. Its all gone for about a week or 2. In this time I get a WhatsApp message on the 16th of October 2025 stating it’s been sent to the supplier. WhatsApp message on the 22nd of October saying my items were transferred back to the branch. They tell me the RAM was faulty and they swapped it out. I take the items home, rebuild the pc and turn it on, and it does the exact same infinite boot loop repeatedly The next day I take it back to Computer Mania, explain what’s going on. They book it in again, and once again I receive a WhatsApp message stating that its being transferred to head office, 31st October 2025. On the 6th of November 2025 I receive a message stating it’s been transferred to supplier. 21st November 2025 I get a WhatsApp message stating its being transferred back to Computer Mania. I go into the store on the 22n November 2025 and collect all the items, they again tell me the RAM was replaced AGAIN because it was faulty, I go home, rebuild the pc, and again it does the exact same thing. I take the whole tower with me this time and take it back to Computer Mania on Monday 24th November 2025. This time the guys in the store test it and see that it is not that RAM but either motherboard or CPU issue. The strip everything from the tower, and box is up with the original boxes it all came in and send it away Again. I get a WhatsApp message on the 26th of November that my items are being transferred to supplier. This was the last WhatsApp message I received from them. I didn’t hear anything for a while, so I called the called Computer Mania and asked them for an update. I am told the supplier won’t do anything because the serial number on the box is not that same as the motherboard. This after it has been with them 4 times. I either call once a week or go into the shop to get an update. Nothing has changed. I call again in mid-December, and I am told that the supplier is closing for the holidays, I will have to wait. I have no choice but to wait. January, I call every few days, and still told the issue is with the serial number now. Eventually they sort out the serial number issue and say they will replace the motherboard. Please bear in mind that I have no contact with the supplier themselves, I am getting information from the store itself. They say they will replace the motherboard. I think great, finally getting this sorted out. On the 23rd of January 2026 I finally get my upgrade kit back. I take it home. I notice the replacement board does not look new at all, and there are thermal paste marks all over it. I clean it up, rebuild the pc and IT STILL DOES THE SAME THING. And to make matters worse, they sent me back the wrong RAM. Instead of the 3200Mhz RAM I sent to them, they sent me back 2133Mhz RAM. The following day, 24th January 2026, I took it all back to Computer Mania, and they have AGAIN sent it back to the supplier and told them they sent me the wrong RAM back. I am currently sitting without any information, or PC, because the guys in the shop are only told the items are at the supplier. It’s not like the shop is close either. Its 20km away from my house, so a 40km round trip every time this happens. It seems that not one person in the warranty office tested anything. They just thought RAM and replaced it and then sent it back twice. The guys in the store are amazing, and this is not a reflection on them. But the warranty side is APPALLING. I have no idea how a warranty claim on a small upgrade kit can take more than 4 months. I am still sitting without my items and have no idea when I will get them back. Maybe Computer Manipulation is more apt name.

The worst experience and service I have ever received from the Cresta branch. After our household items being struck by lightning we approached them for help during a difficult time asking for them to assess our items and also write a report for insurance. All was settled until we arrived the next day to collect when the manager increased the price by triple. I queried it and they came down to R650 for the agreed three items. When my husband went to collect later in the week suddenly the price was over R1000 and the report only had one item (not three as agreed upon) and let’s just say the report listed absolutely nothing valuable for insurance. I could type up something better. Even after we stipulated exactly what insurance asked us for, none of that was included. We have had to throw the useless R1200 piece of paper in the bin and go elsewhere. Most expensive piece of paper I have bought. Both rude and untruthful service received from this branch. If you want to waste money, you don’t have, and be taken on a ride, go to computer mania. If you want respectable service, go anywhere else. If I could give this review a ZERO, I would!
