I have never had car insurance before so I am a novice at this. I bought my car August last year and the got me signed up with OUTsurance. While on the phone they offered me insurance with a premium of R2180and excess of R26500. I signed up for it even knowing the excess outrageous. 3 months ago a car drove into my car while it was parked. Contacted OUTsurance and the car was towed away. The car was assessed and damaged costed more than R26500. They gave me a courtesy car for 1 month (30 days) which they initially wanted me to return earlier than the 30 days but I fought to keep it for 30 days. After the 30 days lapsed I took the car back then queried OUTsurance that since I do not have the car back can they extend the car rental. They refused and said it was not their problem that the car part has not arrived and that I should contact the car dealership. I contacted the dealership numerous times but they were not able to give me an eta of when the parts would arrive and also were not able to provide me with an alternative. OUTsurance however were sending me a monthly email saying the car was still at the panel beater. Three months still carless and paying full price for my insurance I call OUTsurance to see what they can do about this. All they do is ask the panel beater when the parts would arrive then fold their hands. Now after spending loads of money ubering around and dealing with the inconvenience of not having a car I start researching other insurance companies. It turns out that all other insurance companies charge less premiums and a much lower excess. I am still without a car and OUTsurance is causing me more stress than anything because I always need to contact them for anything to happen. I am not sure what I am paying for.
I bought a Jaecoo J7 a year ago and one of the questions I asked is if I would need to wait long for parts should anything go wrong. The answer given to me was that no. They have parts here in South Africa so the wait should not be long. About 10 months after owning the car I was hit from the back while the car was parked. Insurance took over and got the car to the panel beater. Panel beater informed me that they are waiting on parts and that they do not have an ETA on when they will receive the parts. I phoned Thorp and they confirmed that the parts are on back order and that they do not have the eta. After a month of waiting I phoned them back and no one knows what is going on. I keep leaving messages and no one gets back to me. Everytime I call they tell me they would need to gather the information and then get back to me which they never do. I am losing faith in this company and I almost want to sell this car now because of the experience. Now it is getting to almost 2 months without my car and I still do not know when I will get the car back/.
I lost my debit card some time on Thursday 5th December. While sitting at a restaurant I saw money coming out of my account. I immediately called FNB to find out how that happened. They asked me what were the last four digits of the card. I checked my bag for the card to my shock the card was not there. I told them to cancel the card immediately. They canceled it and opened a ***** case. The ***** agent told me that it looks like the card was swiped at a corner shop. The account even went into overdraft of 4000. I have no overdraft feature because even when I try pay for things without any funds in the account it declines. The case was opened and today I got an email sent to me on a Sunday telling me that they will not liable for the funds being taken out because there is a chip and pin security feature on it. The chip and pin security feature is what I was dependent on for security so clearly that did not work. I am not satisfied with the investigation because they did not tell me where the card was swiped which I specifically asked for.
Please do not use first car rental!!! I rented a car from them via my car insurance. They included a theft waiver and well as collision waiver which was included in the daily rate. Unfortunately the car was broken into and the tyre was ****** along will a pair of my shoes that were left in the car. I reported this to first car rental who swapped out the car for me then later sent me an email charging me for the loss of tyre which was approximately R1400, R 2200 for something called trim and R800 for handling fee. The more shocking charge was the R4000 they are charging me titled waiver. I called them to ask for an explanation of this waiver to which they said was a responsibility charge for not taking out the tyre waiver should anything happen to the car. I complained to them telephonically to the fores**** branch who directed me to send an email to their manager Gail about this. The email seems to be bouncing back and now I see they have reserved the money from my account. The call centre was useless with helping me understand the charge and so were the branch workers. The call centre agent even went as far to direct me to their website stating that the waiver that was taken is not really insurance and that I was still liable.
