I was sent an email from Takealot, indicating if I used/download their app I would get a R150 voucher. I downloaded the app, as I needed swimming goggles, these were R219. I needed to spend a minimum of R400 to use the voucher so bought a bag as well @ R199. Total now R418, applied the R150 voucher – very happy R268 for bag and goggles. Takealot then proceeded to cancel the order of the bag (apparently couldn’t find stock), take the voucher off the bag and issue me a refund of R49, and a new R150 voucher. So essentially, I pay the full amount for the goggles (R219) – which isn’t my order I agreed on. Then to use the voucher I need to spend a minimum of R400 again. I was told by customer service it is unethical of me to ask for another/different bag, or a R150 voucher (no minimum spend) to bring my total to R400 again. Very clever by Takealot for new customers, offer vouchers then cancel them once payment is made to make up the difference. Luckily, I hadn’t bought something expensive. To use the new voucher I need to now receive the order, issue a return, get refunded. Then order the exact same thing again, with a different bag, apply voucher, hopefully there’s stock, or all the same thing over again, and then maybe in a hypothetical world I’d get my order after I need it.
