..when my husband's celphone was stolen on the 1st of October at the Menlyn branch. When I was standing at the counter being assisted by Armand, Carl went to look for a Moleskin diary for 2021. His phone was in his back pocket, and when he kneeled down, a man with a dark complexion dressed in a white T-shirt, black jeans, white Adidas sneakers and a black mask, came from "somewhere" to "look" at the cards on a stand next to the diaries; on the security cameras later we could see how the man slipped his hand into Carl's pocket, and hastily disappeared through the exit. Carl only realised that his phone with his bank card in the cel cover was gone, when he wanted to pay. We were flabbergasted, but Armand, Werner, Robyn, Christinah, Silas, Barry and Menlyn security people, pulled out the stops to try and find this opportunistic thief. Unfortunately, with no success. Courage and kindness under fire indeed.
Dear "Peter" After I almost fell for a call from a woman telling me that she was calling from FNB FRAUD DIVISION regarding a transaction on my card, I smelt a rat when she asked me "to confirm" by giving her the last 12 digits 0f my card beginning with 4901, I said I wouldnt; she should read the number to me seeing that she (should) have my details in front of her. She slammed the phone down. I immediately phoned the fraud division, and they told me that they never phone, they send an sms requesting the client to phone them. My card was immediately cancelled and a block put on my accounts. Special thanks to Thabo, Celeste, Kgahliso, and Sophia at Menlyn for excellent service, and treating me with compassion and kindness. Only ever had the best service from this branch, whether sending or receiving parcels from/at this branch. Annestetia and her team are great.
In a nutshell: On 22 December 2018 I wanted to check the balance on an Absa account (a savings account I have been paying money into regularly for years, the card is in my safe) at an Absa ATM in Brooklyn Mall. The card was swallowed by the machine. I was slightly baffled, but thought that it happened because the card was perhaps quite old, and needs to be replaced. Just to make sure that the card was not stuck in the machine, I inserted my Standard Bank Card, checked the balance, and retrieved the card. I was not worried, and thought that I would collect that card on the next working day. When I went to the bank on 27 December, not only did I discover that the card was not there, but that R1000s were drawn on 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, and 27 December. The card was then stopped, and I was given a new card. With reference to Absa's response when I opened a case, I confirm that: the card was not lost, stolen, never used by anybody but myself (and on very few ossasions) and no pin number written on it. Neither was it with any identification documents. I will not let this matter rest till I know what exactly has happened - with all the fraud and corruption being exposesd in our country I trust no one, not even their encrypter system The biggest mystery to me is "what happened to the card that was swallowed by the machine"???

We have a DELTA 9000 (old Mnet) decoder, Lately we seem to have to reboot the decoder regularly as it gives a flickering '0". This happens randomly. Can be once every day or two. No bad weather, no pattern. I decided to call in to DSTV to ask their advice. "It's either the decoder or because the system is changing from analog to digital. Bring it in and we will test it and if we don't find a fault it's the change-over. A consultant will contact you about the change." When I visited Multichoice in Lynnwood Pretoria I found that there were a few decoders with the same problem being tested. "it is not the decoder, the problem lies with the towers". For three weeks? Does anybody know what is going on? In the meantime,
we have come to realize that life is quite ok without Multichoice and decided to cancel our contract if we do not get joy anytime soon.
