I very strongly suggest people keep away from these guys. We did do business with them a while back but it seems their reputation of being honest, dedicated ethical investment firm is no more. One of the directors (who also used his CA(SA) and CFA credentials is under investigation for ***** (as per lawyer request, I cannot divulge more). Syndicated freehold properties owned by investors (some of whom are widows, elderly, chronically ill) were bonded (without consulting with shareholders) by the director/s and family members and more than R200 million has already been unaccounted for. The first red flag was having a CA on a board and then not showing annual financial statements to investors, which again brings the chartered accountancy profession into disrepute. When we had a meeting with him, the only thing he could say was that he was not involved (we have legal documents to say that this was untrue) and was more worried about his reputation in the financial industry and his relationship with his co-director ,than our monies that had disappeared. If anybody is thinking of investing here, please use your discretion and judgement.
Please avoid, one of the directors under investigation for alleged ***** and misconduct. We did business with them in the past, but it seems that their sterling reputation is not what it used to be.
I would like to share my experience with others who may be looking for machinery in the plastics/pipe industry. I emailed Hume Machinery looking for spare parts in the December 2021, but they said they were closing for the break they will get back to me around the 10th January 2022. I sent a reminder on January 10 2022, looking for spare parts and a new machine. From the 10th January 2022, right until mid-February I phoned and sent numerous emails to remind them about my quote. It was worse than dealing with home affairs. They kept on asking for information that was not required or waiting for some pricing from the director. Eventually, when they did decide to respond to request to quotation, their response was in such poor taste, as follows: -Their quotation did not provide spare parts for my current machine as requested -They provided a quote for a new machine (that I had also asked for). However, because they are so busy and do not need business, they quoted a ridiculous figure, that is more than 3 times what I have bought the same machine for. -To date (May 2022), no follow up from the company. -Also very vague answers when we asked them about suppliers for raw materials etc. - Besides the machine that was overpriced, they quoted a service and comissioning charge of R350 000. I bought a new machine for less than that price. So I ended up buying 2 machines imported from India for less than a quarter of the R3 million plus that Hume Machinery quoted me. The machines were set up and operational within 2 weeks, whilst it takes Hume Machinery 2 months only to respond to a request for quotation. My advice to all those in the industrial sector is to support Indian/Chinese imports as the local manufacturers are still way behind international standards in terms of standards and exorbitantly overpriced. There is a general sentiment that spare parts on machines sourced overseas are difficult to get, but this is untrue.
A technician was called to our premises by the name of Zuber Rawat, who came on behalf of Bidvest. Did not finish the job but demanded full money. Sent a bill of R5000 whilst 90% of the work was not completed.
I would like to bring to the attention of any interested parties to please be very aware and vigilant of a company called H A D Plastics, under the HAD group. On Monday 15th November 2021, we arranged with the technician of the HAD group, Deon Gounden (Dees) to come have a look at our machinery and provide a quotation for services to be carried out. Unfortunately, we ignored the first sign of a fly-by-night company- they charged us a substantial amount of money to do only a quotation. It costed us R750 for Deon Gounden to come to our premises only to give a quotation. Our factory is en route to where he was headed so he claimed if our factory was in a different area, there would be an additional charge. He stopped here on the 17th Of November 2021, gave a very general non-specific breakdown of the works to be done, promising a quotation on the same afternoon, the 17th of November 2021. From Wednesday 17th November 2021 until Friday 19th November 2021, Deon didn’t take my calls on both his cellphone numbers and didn’t reply to my calls. Here is where it becomes apparent that this company is in business to make a quick buck. Friday 19th November 2021, I manage to get hold of the office, spoke to the office lady, Arthi Singh. Arthi claims that because of loadshedding and their busy schedule, they weren’t able to prepare a quotation. It was rather unprofessional for somebody to make excuses for not providing a quotation (that was paid for). I received a one-line quotation on Whatsapp saying that the costs of works will be R95 000. This again was substantially overpriced to try to get me away from them (We received a quotation from a company that flew their technicians from JHB for just over a quarter of that and they didn’t even charge us for a quotation keeping in mind they travelled all the way from JHB to Durban to quote). I then requested Arthi Singh and Deon (Dees) Gounden to provide a detailed quotation on email with each item listed separately. Arthi Singh sent me the same single line quotation (no breakdown of works) on their company letterhead and forwarded it to me. I then again requested a detailed quotation from Arthi Singh which she promised. Monday 22nd November 2021, I get a call from Arthi Singh saying that they are not going ahead with the works using a very shabby excuse. One of my employees, who called himself my business partner had an argument on our property so Deon Gounden (Dees) decided not to go ahead with the work. Keep in mind Deon Gounden (Dees) is a grown man, probably middle aged suddenly finds a childish excuse to not provide my quotation. The argument was based on my employee asking Deon Gounden (Dees), a grown man, what was the need to charge for a quotation. I then inform them that what happened between himself and my employee is a personal matter between them and they were responsible for providing a quotation that was paid for. Rightfully if services were not provided the money should be returned. So to summarise: HAD Plastics (also go as HAD group, HAD steel and pipe worx, and HAD Air) will charge you a very large sum of money to provide a quotation only. Remember if a company charge for a quotation or material upfront, run away, most probably scammers (Like in this case). HAD plastics will spend 10 minutes assessing your machines (cost R750) will refuse to answer to calls and messages and make you run around like a crazy fool. If you persist on calling them, they give you a very high figure, four times the cost of the works, without telling you what the work entails, thinking that you will run away after seeing such a high price. If you further persist, they will make a lame excuse for them not being able to do the work, meanwhile, they have already stolen your R750 and run away. I urge all of you in the plastic manufacturing, steel works and industrial to please be cautious of this company.
Staff are always screaming. Old man in the shop is arrogant.
Stay very clear of this company. When I took out a contract, the lady told me that you can test your unit any time. Whe i tried testing, i was told you can only test every 3 months only. Imagine paying so much a month to be told we can't tell you if your unit works or not. Secondly, the app experience is horrible. There's a 4 hour delay/lag between the tracker and the Location on the Android app.
Does only what is necessary, and does a very clean, methodical service and repair to all my vehicles. Doesn't try to fix things that aren't broken. Highly recommend. Even though I'm in Durban, and the workshop is about 70 km from me, I prefer to drive out as the service, skill, experience and advice is 100 percent worth it.
