I’ve been a paying member of the Discovery Smart Essential Plan for a few years now. In all that time, I’ve rarely used it — and when I tried, I was either blocked or forced to pay out-of-pocket for GP visits and blood tests. But after what happened to me this past weekend, I need to speak out. And thank you for this lady for doing the same, ironic a few weeks apart hey https://www.hellopeter.com/discovery-health/reviews/discoverys-smart-plan-a-ruthless-game-of-roulette-with-human-life-5772915 On Friday, 20 June 2025, I began experiencing intense and uncontrolled bleeding linked to PCOS. By Saturday, 21 June, it had escalated to the point where I was vomiting blood. My partner rushed me to Life Fourways Hospital, a Discovery Network Hospital, and we verified at reception that they accepted my plan. Despite being in obvious pain, dizzy, and pale from blood loss, we were told that my Smart Essential Plan does not cover emergency or casualty visits. Instead of being treated, I was told to find a Network GP — which was closed for the weekend. I was effectively turned away in the middle of a medical crisis. Desperate, we searched for alternatives — but the Smart Plan has so few facilities, none were open. So we drove to Edenvale Government Hospital, hoping for help. What followed was shocking and humbling. I sat for 10 hours in my own blood, in severe pain, trying not to pass out. It took 3 hours to open a file, 4 hours to have my vitals checked, and the rest waiting for a doctor. But when I was finally seen, I was treated with empathy, care, and clinical excellence. The night-shift government doctor didn’t just give me medication — he checked the cultures in my blood to ensure I wouldn't react badly to the drip and medicines they were preparing to administer. I have known allergies to several medications, and he took the time — despite being overworked and understaffed — to make sure I was safe. That level of care is something I honestly was not expecting in a Government Hospital - no really, not from past experiences. He then administered emergency fluids, stomach lining protectants, blood coagulants, iron and vitamin supplements — everything I urgently needed. I returned on 23 June to collect more medication and must go back again on 25 June for blood results and to consult with a gynecologist. And here’s what is truly staggering: The total cost of care I received at Edenvale Government Hospital was R192 - to date. That includes opening a file, the medication, the emergency treatment, the extra medication — everything. Meanwhile, I have been paying monthly premiums to Discovery, only to be told in an emergency that I was not covered. This experience has left me asking: What if I had collapsed before reaching Edenvale? What if this had been a car accident? Would I have been turned away then too? This isn’t just about poor service — it’s a violation of my rights under the Constitution: Section 10: Right to dignity and respect Section 11: Right to life Section 27: Right to access healthcare And to make matters worse: I requested a plan change to KeyCare Start on 23 April 2025. I followed up on 29 May, and again on 24 June. I provided all the required documents. Still no update. Still no change. What my weekend proved is this: the public sector cared when the private system failed me. The Smart Plan is not just inadequate — it’s dangerous in a crisis. It works for Discovery’s profit margins, not for the patients it’s supposed to protect. To those on Discovery’s Smart Plans: you are not truly covered in an emergency. And to Discovery: this is more than a policy failure — it’s a failure of common decency. The KeyCare Start plan has more benefits and is cheaper than this ******* Essential Smart Plan, if anything this entire Plan should be abolished as it is not a Health Care or Medical Aid Plan - there is no aid - there is only client payouts and no service. Can't even say it is a service - never received any.
Delivery person was exceptionally rude over the phone and to the security that was only trying to help. If you dont like doing deliveries, get another job, dont take it out on the client or the security that is trying to help you to the right location.
As someone that has a living of basically only work and no time to cook good wholesome meals or even have time to make food, I found the quality and products exceptional from Cleo's Kitchen. The delivery was swift, professionally packed and cold when it arrived. The taste of the food is delicious and has a lovely variety with the Meal Box options. Very Pleased! And beyond impressed. Thank you for making my life easier and proving such services :D.
I have emailed The Unlimited a few times now, and called. I never gave anyone permission to debit my account monthly. I also cannot cancel this policy. No one has returned to me via email. When Customer care calls I get sent around to different people, but the result is the same. I want my policy cancelled and the debit order removed.

I see constant complaints about this company yet you still go on!
