I recently retired at the end of December 2025 after approximately 40 years of municipal service and contributing faithfully to the SALA Pension Fund. Only after my retirement did I discover that the majority of my retirement benefit would remain in the Fund and be paid to me as a monthly pension. This came as a complete surprise to me. To date, I have not received written confirmation of: The exact monthly pension amount I will receive How this amount was calculated What happens to my pension in the event of my death Whether any beneficiaries, dependants, or children would receive any continuation or residual benefit I do not have a spouse, and when I asked what would happen if I pass away, I was simply told that a spouse would continue to receive a pension. That does not apply to me, and no one has been able to clearly explain what happens in my situation. I also did not receive proper retirement counselling prior to my retirement. I was not given a full written explanation of my benefit structure or the long-term implications before retiring. Learning about these matters only after I have already retired has left me feeling vulnerable and distressed. After decades of service and saving, I expected transparency and clarity. Instead, I am left uncertain about my financial security and what will happen to my pension should something happen to me. I am not disputing policy or law. I am simply asking for proper communication, written clarity, and dignity in the handling of retirement benefits. I believe many retirees may be in the same position.

SALA Pension fund now restricts certain pension fund members to transfer their hard worked life savings when they retire to any other insurance company or pension fund/Investment- this is from September 2025. This means that you are no longer in control of your financial future & retirement. SALA owns your pension fund money and you will do as they say and you will have to accept all changes and terms they/SALA deem fit - there is nothing you can do. You and your pension fund money now belongs to the SALA Pension FUND and the government. Good luck to all employees with SALA pension fund...

The SALA Pension Fund service to members/employees and financial advisers wishing to assist employees with retirement claims are the worst in the country when compared to other pension funds. All of the telephone numbers on their website and on their documentation is either incorrect or no longer in service or working condition. Relevant employees from the SALA pension fund does not even reply on e-mails or personal emails. Please avoid this pension fund at all cost. You will cry big tears if you want to withdraw your money from this pension fund for retirement!!! The fund is administered by Fairsure, this administrator(Fairsure) might as well not exist, nobody replies on e-mails, all the telephone numbers are incorrect or not working and members are left without any assistance. Your hard earned pension fund money falls in this pitch dark black hole... be very careful..!!!! They don't even respond to my emails - it has almost been a month now since I contacted them on repeated occasions.

I am a financial advisor trying to get retirement monies paid to give a retiree an income, I have been struggling for 3 months to get this sorted. I have had numerous calls to there offices and the person that I need to speak with is always on a call or on leave and I never get a response or a reply via email after leaving all my details, this is incredibly poor service and the management need to take this up with there staff!!!!

I am disappointed and frustrated about this fund dishonesty. I have been taken from piller to post when I enquire about the balance on my 2pot savings. The balance has been the same for the past 3 months and my employer has proof that they have made the allocation to them. No 1 can account at fairsure they keep transferring my calls without answering or say someone will call but no one actually calls.

They last rep**** to my review by saying I will receive a call from one of their consultants, to this day I haven't received any communication from them. The problems still remains unsolved. As we speak my mom has been calling them since last week regarding the last payment of the year. Nokuzola Masina said the payment will be made yesterday which was the 18/12/2024 . Today when she called no one answered the calls throughout the day, I wrote an email to Mpho Makatikela, only to get an automatic response saying she is on leave till the 10th of January 2025, As our administrator I feel she should have made sure eveyone was paid before going to leave. My mom is old, and the frustrations she always faces every time they need to pay is really putting a strain on her health. Why is it so hard to deposit quartely payments on time ? Payments are made every three months but they are never on time, its been 3 years now and I am always left baffled by their incompetence. To anyone thinking of signing up with this Trust with the intent of their kids being well taken cared for after they pass on. DON'T DO IT! You will be signing up for frustration and stress.

SALA pension fund seems to be having problems... Municipal employees have app**** for their two pots but until now we have not received anything... Worse part, now they are not answering any calls. . It's been a week since I've been trying to reach them with no luck... I think there is a **** with our pension monies here.
