Overlooking Simons Town Navel base the Salty Sea Dog is real value for money and the best Fish and Chips we've ever had. The service was fantastic, and the pricing was really good. Bongi's service was amazing, and he's got the best laugh in the whole of Simons Town.

We had fresh fried hake and chips at Salty Sea Dog in Simons Town. Excellent service, food was delicious and the best hake we have had, just a great place to chill and look out on the sea and the boats moored there. Well worth a visit. We have been going there for the past 5 years and the food is always good.

On 8 June, my family and I went to Salty Sea Dog in Simonstown. While they ordered hake and chips, I made the never-to-be-repeated mistake of ordering the "Grilled Baby Squid" from the menu. I confirmed with the waiter that it came as tubes. When it arrived, it was very much half tubes and half baby squid tentacles that appeared to have been pan fried (covered in oil) of the type where the chef sc****s the burn off the bottom of the pan and mixes it in with the food making it taste like oily burnt toast. Needless to say that it was probably the worst calamari tubes that I have ever had. To top it off, the chips that I left because they had clearly been cooked in old oil, we charged for separately. The calamari was R88 and the chips were R15. When I queried it with the waiter upon payment he showed me on the menu that it's R100 for the meal. Thankfully there are various other restaurants within a stone's throw from Salty Sea Dog, so I obviously wont be back. I would simply like to warn others of this.
