SANI SIXT
Based on recent customer reviews, Sani Sixt is generating significant frustration across its South African branches, particularly around deposit refunds and billing transparency. Customers consistently mention extended delays in receiving deposit returns, unexplained additional charges, and poor responsiveness from call centres and email support. A recurring theme is disputes over fuel charges, damage claims, and pricing inconsistencies between website quotes and final invoices. While a handful of customers praise individual staff members for professional and efficient service at certain branches, the dominant sentiment reflects deep dissatisfaction with accountability and communication.

Hired a car at King Shaka, refuelled the car to the maximum amount only to be charged by Sani for refueling. The car was filled to a point where no more petrol could be filled, it was right to the top. Emailed Sani repeatedly, they said there is nothing they can do, they refuelled the vehicle. The km's recorded on the vehicle inspection sheet does not correspond to the actual mileage. How is this even possible? Getting absolutely no help with them.

Avoid Sani Sixt Rent A Car at All Costs! I had an absolutely shocking experience with Sani Sixt Rent A Car at Lanseria Airport. I rented a car for three days, paid a hefty deposit of R3800, and even added extra insurance. They handed me a Citroen Aircross with a faulty sun visor, then tried to pin the blame on me and demanded payment. This issue was later brushed aside, but the real nightmare was the deposit refund. It took 42 days for my deposit to be returned, despite me physically going to the airport three separate times to resolve the matter. Communication is non-existent — emails go unanswered, and phone calls are left on hold indefinitely. The only saving grace was a manager, Theo Lynne, who eventually arranged for the pending amount on my credit card to be paid back. However, Sani Sixt had the audacity to add an “admin fee” of R550 to my account in error, which had to be corrected. This company operates with shocking inefficiency and zero accountability. In going forward, I would strongly advise anyone considering renting a car to steer clear of Sani Sixt Rent A Car. There are far better, more professional rental companies out there — don’t waste your time, money, or patience here.

I have been renting with sani sixt several times , i want to talk about 2026 experience which i have records for, SANI SIXT debited me for every extension and made.sure they charge extension on my deposit to justify a ZERO return of my deposit. Luckily i have had some time unplanned to be home.& reflect on my spendind as i work in fefferent provinces , i descovered that there was not retunerd deposit in in every car hire yet they take money for every extension. They take from me and also take rhat from deposit. Most of us we us credit cards , pleasee check if there is a reversal of your deposit. EVEN AFTER WARNING THEM THEY STI LL TOOK MY DEPOSIT. They will make u understand their **** calculations & they work with FNB , that transaction will disapear. Less is said abt FNB the better. 2026 i have hired the most from them Sani sixt & they never returned a single deposit since Jan 2026

Rent initially for 3 days. Was not given a rental agreement. Took the Super Insurance option. Asked what it covered and was told EVERYTHING. Renewed for a further 5 days with call centre, told them I had never received a rental agreement. They emailed me one giving breakdown. Found rate was charged at R201.62 per day. Website quote R120pd. Charged booking fee R120, Loss Damage Waiver 28.47pd, Loss damage waiver reduced excess 57.72pd, Minor damage waiver 31.40pd, Third party super liability cover 49.06pd,(Max cover 250K) wheel and windscreen cover 71.95pd, debit card fee 217.39, Contract fee 105.35, location surcharge 13% 457.82. None of these charges are mentioned on their website and all are subject to VAT. I called the actual rental office the following day and was told I would only receive a rental agreement when I returned the card. Also told rental price can change between booking the rental with the call centre and actually taking the car. This was in a space of about 20 minutes. Check out time was 15:08 but return time was 11.56. To me the return should have been 15.07. for an 8 day period Whilst writing this report they have taken a further R144.39 from my bank account with no explanation..

I rented a vehicle for 12 days because my vehicle went for some repairs, after 4 days i got a call that my vehicle was ready for collection of which we went and picked it up, we then returned the rental vehicle on the 4th April, on the seventh i call SANI randburg asking since i returned the vehicle early would the 8 days be subtracted from my invoice and i was told no i still pay the same amount that i paid for 12 days, then i asked if i can get the vehicle back then because the main reason i returned early was so that i pay a little less than what i would have paid for 12 days and they refused to give me the vehicle back. so i have paid rental for 12 days for a car that was returned in 4 days which is a total *******. i will never use them ever again.

We rented from Sani Sixt, Cape Town international airport. The first car had warning lights on, before we even set off. Changed to a second car and half an hour later on the road to Simon's Town, a warning light came on. Minutes later another warning light came on and it was a serious one. We were not comfortable driving with the car, so they did bring us another car and the driver told me "don't worry about all the warning lights, it will be fine". SERIOUSLY!!!! So, 3 cars from Sani Sixt and not one was serviced or looked after. People pay a lot of money to hire a car and that is what you get!!!!

Monthly rental was good, however, the different departments and depot's don't communicate with each other leaving unresolved queries. We are still waiting for refund of deposit - vehicle was returned a month ago already. Unauthorised additional charges of approximately R3 500 was charged after returning the vehicle and receiving confirmation that there was no damage to the vehicle. We have been requesting information and invoice for the amount charged. Despite numerous follow-ups, still no feedback. We requested full statement of account for entire rental period without any success. We have no idea what the amount deducted was for, the only reply we got was that is was the outstanding amount, without an invoice! We view this as *****ulent activity. Their unresponsiveness is just adding oil to the fire.

These guys refuse to refund my "refundable" deposit, and their reason is that they put a hold on my bank account and it was not a payment. I have sent Sani my bank statement to show them that it was a payment. They are now ghosting me and pretend as if they don't exist, no one responds to my emails anymore.
