After a professional contract was presented by the owner of this business, Schalk Spies, we signed and paid up front for a 10 year service agreement of our solar geyser. After the initial service in 2018 we have been unable to get Mr Spies to return. At first COVID was used an excuse, but by now we have given up of ever getting further service. The excuses when we managed to get hold of him, was numerous. This is a conman and I would stay well clear of him.

Schalk Spies convinced me to pay him nearly R50,000 to install a solar heating system within three weeks. It took more than three months after paying the 70% deposit. This happened after my many ignored phone calls and messages and when I could get hold of him he would give excuses and fabrications as to why he had not yet installed the system. When he eventually got around to installing the system (after three months not after three weeks as he had promised), he cut off my tenants' water supply for two days. As I had to refund my tenants for the inconvenience this caused, I deducted less than R1000 from the final payment (as we had agreed). When contacted he refused any backup service and told me: "We are finished!" and not to contact him again. He insisted on drilling holes through the roof to accommodate the piping despite my objections. Within two months the roof is leaking (this has never happened before) and two ceilings have collapsed due to water damage. He does not respond to any form of communication. This has cost me a fortune for repairs. DON'T LET THIS MAN'S INITIAL FRIENDLY DEMEANOUR FOOL YOU INTO DOING BUSINESS WITH HIM.

Having done business with this company I felt done in. The CEO seems genuine and honest, but I was properly fooled into doing bussiness with this man. On top of the contract for a solar system, he also added a five year guarntee. The problems kept piling up and he kept making promises after installation. I have since spent many thousands on paying other people to repair the installation. I have also lost the whole battery pack worth around R100k, because the connections between the panels and the system was done incorrectly and thus damanged the batteries. Do yourself an favor and never do bussiness with Schalk Spies and Soladi Africa

<div>Soldadi Africa with one owner/director has caused us to simply have the worst experience ever in doing business. He designs so called solar systems except after 2 months we still don't have a working solar system. He claimed that with what he has recommended we could go off the grid completely. We have the equipment and paid for it but it is not working. We are still waiting for the generator that we also paid for. He is difficult to contact and throws down the phone in your ear if pushed to perform as undertaken. We had to take another route. A person with real know how inspected the work which was done and declared it simply non functional, dangerous and not close to compliant. Please do not fall for this man. He is a smooth talker of note. His presentation and quotation were done very well. There was simply no way novices such as us could pick up that this is a con man. Stay away from SOLADI AFRICA!</div>

Our review is the 3rd negative review on Soladi Africa. Unfortunately the 1st review, 1st Feb 2019, was placed after we had paid our deposit. Stay away from Schalk Spies, Soladi Africa. He is a smooth talker of note and actually has no idea of what he is doing. After 2 months the installation which was supposed to take 2-4 days, is still incomplete. He employs "electricians", "plumbers" etc, probably from the street and does no supervision. Apparently the electrical team he had employed is still waiting for their payment from him. After promises, false information lies and undertakings we are still waiting for the "back-up" generator which has been paid for more than 2 months ago. We sit with a damaged roof, inefficient geyser and no solar power! This has been a nightmare! It's people like him who gives the Solar Energy industry a bad name. As it is so difficult to get hold of Spies and because we were concerned about further damage to our roof and property we had to contract a different supplier who confirmed our worst fears. The installation is a mess and actually dangerous! We have been had!

SunTank installed a solar system and heat pump ten years ago. There were a few glitches, and the tank was replaced under guarantee, 7 years ago. One year ago, as the anode was due for replacement, I phoned the Johannesburg head office to find the local SunTank agent and was given the details of a company called Soladi Africa who were "now their Cape Town Agent'. This company is a one-man show, run by a Schalk Spies. It has no branded vehicle, no permanent staff and which I suspect picks up labour and 'plumbers' from the street corners daily. The geyser was inspected, and I was told that it was about to burst and needed urgent replacement. This was when the trouble started. The tank replacement was a five-day exercise with different 'plumbers' coming each day often working late into the night. The roof had to be taken off three times. It required some mods as the new tank was an 'indirect' tank with a peripheral glycol filled circulation, completely unnecessary in the SA climate. It was finally installed and hobbled along for a year until the circulation pump failed. Soladi and Mr Spies were nowhere to be seen. I asked a reputable plumber to look at the installation. The tank supports and tray in the roof were not compliant and dangerous, the plumbing was not compliant, and the piping was cheap Class 0, the tank was installed upside-down, and the hot water outlet had no stop-****. The electrical installation was non-compliant and dangerous. The indirect chamber and panels were empty. But worst of all there was was a bottle of car anti-freeze next to the tank in the roof. Indirect tanks have glycol added, this must be food grade and is non-toxic. Car anti-freeze contains propylene glycol which is toxic. I have had the whole system removed and thrown it away. Next, comes the totally absent customer service. The Cape Town 'agent'has disappeared and is not contactable. So I phoned head office only to get defensive, disinterested and arrogant responses from the SunTank staff. I requested three times to speak to the MD, always in meetings. Told by the receptionist on the third occasion that he wouldn't want to speak to me as they had nothing to do with the 'agents' who supplied their SunTank branded products. My call was never returned. There is not one redeeming factor in this whole experience. We were lucky to avoid a tragedy, through crushing, poisoning or electrocution. Avoid this lot at all costs. This is a previous review of Suntank but slightly amended applies equally to Soladi Africa, Suntank’s Cape Town Agent:

I have had a solar system installed by Soladi Africa a few years ago. A maintainance plan was included in contract. Once the system started giving me problems, Mr Spies, the CEO and owner and rep promised me to come and repair. This was an off the grid system, so I was in quite a tight spot with my family to have it repaired. The alternative was to go back onto the ESKOM grid. After months of calls and ESKOM accounts; all I got from Mr Spies was promises. He eventually stopped answering my calls, sms and whatsapp messages and e-mails. I had no option but to spend money with other service providers to rectify the problem. Soladi Africa had installed the panels incorrectly and therefore I had to have that redone, replace the blown MPPTs and, eventually, had to go off the battery system as the battery pack had also succumbed to the incorrect system. I furthermore had to have the cable to my house replaced as it was insufficient and had no wiring for a trip switch. I have now attempted to contact him again, but to no avail. Please people, do not trust his stories and lies! Please do not make the same mistakes I have to trust this company and person.
