We contacted Timbermann to have a wooden deck installed. We asked at the time for a non-maintenance deck, that was our one and only requirement. This was confirmed in an email dd 4 March 2015 (I have all the emails to proof this). In 7 month's time the deck looked so dried out and weather beaten that we contacted Timbermann to treat the wood which cost us R5 517,60 at the time. We had to have the deck treated at very high costs regularly and the last time we made use of another supplier but with a similar product. Even before the last treatment the planks started to fall off at places, it cracks and warps up which can cause an accident should someone trip over it, which they fixed everytime. So we asked for a quotation from Timbermann again. The treatment cost 4 times more in only 4 years time, they charge us R22 385 and then ‘generously’ offered us some discount. I informed Mr Kriedemann that I am going to pursue this matter by accepting the quotation where he assured us in the abovementioned email that we have the choice to not have to treat the wood ever, that it was a total misrepresentation. I also requested that they then only fix the broken pieces and tighthen all the loose *****s due to poor workmanship to prevent one of our guests or ourselves from falling over the loose boards. Thereafter I will make use of another timber company which is more affordable although our plan was to never have to maintain the deck. I received an email from Mr Kriedemann stating that the high cost is due to the one time that we made use of another supplier which is absolutely nonsense. The initial cost of the whole deck was plus minus R180 000, so we are not talking small change here. They will also not fix the loose planks and *****s. What course of action should I take?
