Worst experience at Westville Vet Hospital We took our sick girl to Westville Vet Hospital after she had been unwell for a week. We first went to a vet in Chatsworth who couldn’t find the cause, so we decided to take her to Westville vet hospital because she was getting worse From the start, the experience was disappointing. Our girl was aggressive because she was sick and scared — yes, she is a Pitbull, but she is normally the sweetest dog. We explained her history clearly, including that she has trauma from a grooming incident and struggles with FOMO. The doctor asked us to put a muzzle on her, which we did ourselves. It took time because she was distressed, and there was no assistance offered by the staff during this process. The doctor left the room and told us to ask the reception to call him when we are done Even after the muzzle was on, the Dr Tom was still visibly afraid to handle her. Bloods were taken, and then we were given two options: 1. Leave her there for further tests, but we were told it was high risk for the doctor and staff so this is not an option anymore ( the Dr refused to admit her) 2. Take an injection and tablets and go home and try to give her the meds This left us shocked — we trusted that vets are trained to handle sick and fearful animals, especially in a hospital setting. We chose the injections and tablets because we felt pressured and uncertain. That night, our girl became worse. We had no choice but to drive all the way to Ballito Vet Hospital, they helped us with our girl even though she was scared and being aggressive they even put on the muzzle . They immediately knew what was wrong, handled her professionally and confidently, admitted her without hesitation, and she had to undergo emergency surgery. Thanks to Ballito Vet Hospital, she survived. Westville Vet Hospital is a no for me . They need better-trained doctors who know how to handle Pitbulls and other strong breeds when they are sick, scared, and in pain — not turn them away I would not recommend this vet hospital whatsoever

Westville Veterinary Hospital are greedy for money and don't truly care about helping your pet. I have had to spend 14k on tests alone, all for Dr Richard Smith to tell me that my Husky has an ongoing sinus issue. It was never made clear that additional costs would be incurred when sending tests to the laboratory and, now I am hit with a 2nd invoice for more money. The lack of consideration and clarity is appalling. These people only care about making their pockets heavier.

Truly a horrible experience euthanizing our beloved dog Harley, Dr. Tom CILLIERS should have his veterinary licence revoked. We were not even greeted soon meeting this man and he showed no compassion or care about us, or our poor year and a half I'll puppy. He told us she has to have a catheter fitted and that we have to wait in the office. He dragged our ill dog who we told him has difficulty walking fast or far. This didn't stop him, we were so concerned we followed him to find this monster picking up our Harley by the leash as she layed limp passed out frothing from the mouth. Never again, she couldn't even breath properly for the remainder of the euthanasia and I am so sorry to anyone who has come to this vet, we were "lucky" enough to see what goes on behind closed doors

I have taken my baby to Westville Veterinary clinic as refered to by a vet in Silverglen Vet in Chatsworth, due to my baby needing 24hours intensive care. Upon my arrival we were told to sit in one of rooms and wait for the veterinarian. The white doctor who was a male didn't show any kind of remorse or sympathy and just told me that they can't do anything we have to put my baby down. Hearing this made me loose my mind, scream and cry cause that's my son and I never wanted that option. I told the doctor to do he's best but he said no and there's no chances of survival with treatment. He didn't even show any corcern and just carried my baby anyhow and put him on the table for me to see him. It is just a money making scheme with that hospital nothing else, they don't care about your pets or your feelings. The doctor or staff never gave me the option to be there with my baby when they was putting him down. My cousin also took their German shepherd to Westville to remove a lump. She told us her baby was normal and barking along the way to Westville and when they arrived at the hospital and saw the exact same white veterinarian he gave her the option to put her baby to sleep. The doctor also said it's gonna cost over 10k to remove the lump and it could also be cancerous and treatment could cost over 30k, also stating it will be best to put her to sleep. Mind you her baby was normal before going to that hospital and wasn't in any pain. They told the doctor they wanted to take her home and spend the last day with her before they make any decisions. But I'm not too sure what happened they ended up keeping her baby at the hospital for the night. The next morning my cousin gets a call telling her that her baby passed away not giving any proper explanation, they also told her that getting an autopsy will cost lots of money. It is so heartbreaking that this hospital doesn't know the type of pain we pet owners go through and it is so easy for them to give us that option to put our babies down. Had I known this I would never taken my baby there in the first place. They just a money making scheme and everything for them is money first than our babies lives. I hate that hospital they show no remorse or sympathy for our babies. If I could give them 0 stars i would, 1 star is too much for a disgusting and heartless place like that

WARNING!!! Please be aware. Due to the negligence of Richard Smith at Westville vet, we have lost our baby! Our baby boy Titan was a beautiful Boerboel, weighing in at 94kgs. He was diagnosed with Lymphoma last year and has been through a 25 week chemo treatment, he went into remission and apparently the lymphoma came back this year April. Our boy went back on another round of the 25 week treatment in June of this year and he then became resistant to the treatment which was clear, Richard Smith continuously promised us he will do calculations to try new treatments as it was clear our baby was becoming resistant and he just kept making excuses everytime and continued with the same treatment which was not working. We then told him we were talking to an oncologist and in the attempt not to lose our money! He quickly told us of another drug that could be used called Laspar, he administered this to our baby without doing any tests to see if he could handle the drug. Later that day our babies face started to swell which seemed to us that this could be an allergic reaction. We tried getting ahold of Richard and it was almost impossible, we even spoke to the Vet head nurse and they were unhelpful. We sent Richard an email as a last resort and he only responded to us at 19:39! Saying it’s not an allergic reaction or the Laspar it’s the lymphoma. Our baby passed away early hours of the following day whilst we were rushing him to the vet as the swelling on his face was becoming worse. When we arrived at the vet our baby was already gone and the vet that was present clearly said to us that that looks like an allergic reaction! We could’ve saved our boys life had Richard Smith cared enough to take our concerns seriously. THEY ARE KILLING OUR BABIES! THEY DO NOT CARE! It is all about financial gain and not the best interest of our babies! Please if anyone else has had a similar encounter or anything due to negligence or ill care, please contact me. WE NEED TO STOP THEM! Contact me on 0731611199- Dylan

I am actually quite upset that I have to leave such a negative review, as they used to be the best veterinary hospital. The most recent event: My cat had to have a portion of her tail amputated due to an accident. They amputated. After going for dressing changes, a nurse carelessly wrapped the bandage too tight which caused significant deep tissue bruising. After begging for antibiotics, they finally gave us some, and we were told they were ‘strong and effective’. However, when my cat was showing signs of sepsis, we called and asked for an appointment, in which we were told that she was not a priority and they were only going to see her for her scheduled appointment the following day, despite the vet telling us that we must bring her in immediately if she is showing any signs of sickness. Also, when she came home from her amputation, they hurt her throat so badly during sedation that she only regained her voice back after two weeks. They refuse to take accountability for their apparent mess-ups, but demanded R20,000 for this. We immediately took her to another vet and they told us the antibiotics Westville prescribed were not effective for the type of infection, and the tight dressing caused tissue death. They now have to amputate more of her tail. However, this new vet is incredible and empathetic, and charging R3000 for surgery, medications, and a three day hospital stay. Next, my dog was taken in to Westville three weeks prior with a stomach bug. Although more on the senior-side, she had no health issues. They took xrays and they gave us different answers over two days as to what was wrong with her. They asked me to come in and try feed her, but when I arrived, she was completely out-of-it and was battling to breathe. I immediately called the vet in and told her, and said it was just the drugs and that she was in no way shape or form in immediate danger. I was not happy with this at all and told them something was seriously wrong, but was assured she was fine. The next morning, we received a call to say that she had died after they fed her during the night, and she aspirated into her lungs and developed pneumonia. They then told us that over the two days that she was there, they suspected she had an issue with her oesophagus. But why did they feed her then? And they only called us after she had died. It was incredibly traumatic and did not make any sense. They then proceeded to charge us over R15,000 for this. They have gone from an incredible practice, to one that is money-hungry and apathetic. They do not have the best interest of the pets at heart at all. I am highly disappointed and disgusted at their behaviour towards pet-owners and the animals that come into their practice. We have tried to be understanding, but this has gone too far. Something needs to change, or people are just going to keep losing pets that are healthy.

Our review is so late, we do apologize for that. Our Lola was diagnosed as diabetic on the 27th of December 2022, she lost her sight instantly and she wasn’t spayed. Dr Webster did her cataract surgery on the 14th of February 2022. We’ve had nothing but thee BEST experience with the hospital and staff. YOU ALL ARE WONDERFUL. We thank you all for being so welcoming, friendly and for taking such good care of our beautiful Lola. We can’t thank you enough, what was once such a scary time, now coming in for appointments aren’t as daunting as it once was due to our anxiety with it all. Dr Webster, you are a true gem, we appreciate your love for animals and your dedication. Wishing you well today and always, The Ramanna family
