The hotel is run down and in serious need of an upgrade. Our room is damp and smells mouldy. The furniture is shabby, paint chipping off and generally old, there is not enough parking for all the guests and we could not get anyone to make up the rooms until the afternoon. Generally the hotel is run down, the service is terrible and the rooms are awful. It is grossly overpriced for what you get, horrible, horrible waste of money!!!!

The spa is in a dilapidated state. Beside that the pricing on the website of the hotel is not what you get charged once you get there. They overcharged me by R620 rands and when I realised that they simply pointed me to fine print that prices are subject to change anytime. Like ***?

Poor, poor poor all round! The rooms smell like mould (atleast our rooms). When we booked, we booked for a 4 day stay, and on arrival our rooms (4 rooms which we had booked) were dirty and smelling of mould. We went down to reception and informed them of the matter. The white lady who was not even a receptionist but standing behind the receptionist said “there’s nothing we can do”… I thought this was odd that they wouldn’t even try to investigate or sort out the matter. Eventually after we told them we cannot sleep there (deposit was already paid), they sent the cleaning staff to mop and put toilet pray in our rooms and some other stinky polish for floors. We made a decision right there and then that we need to find another hotel (and the area was very unfamiliar to us). We eventually found the wilderness beach hotel where the staff was friendly and allowed us to see the rooms before we paid for the booking. When that was settled, we went back to the wilderness hotel and informed them of our decision to move out- and now all of a sudden they say they can find us other rooms! So my sister asked the lady “but you guys said there’s nothing you can do”…. Now all of a sudden there’s rooms available…. It was so bad- actually traumatising to sleep the one night in that hotel (as our booking for the beach hotel was made for the following day for 3 nights). We woke up sick (sneezing and coughing ) and even smelling of mould. On check out in the morning - there was an African lady (we are also African), who was quite angry that we were not assisted- she took us to view other rooms that could have been made available to us as the staff is aware that the rooms they placed us in were rotten (perhaps allocated for black people)… it’s so sad to see how we are still treated in these white owned establishments. I wish I could send a health inspector to inspect the place as no one should be sleeping in the rooms allocate to us. The mould was even visible on the curtains and the base of the bed and in the wardrobe. We were treated poorly and it saddens me that not even the white manager, who stood on the side as we complained to the receptionist, bothered to check in with us - for him perhaps it was good riddance that the blacks were out of his hotel! So sad! To add, there were even 2 big ****roaches lying on the passage , and dust all over. The walls are dirty, the ceiling is dirty. The pictures on the website are not a true representation of how the hotel looks! What a scam.

We recently had our wedding at the Wilderness Hotel and I must admit I am disgusted by the way we and our guest who stayed over were treated by the staff from our arrival the Friday right through to the Sunday morning. It was storming when we arrived and no one offered to help us with our bags but when WHITE PEOPLE needed assistance a porter was allocated= the staff has no idea what customer service is - Tammy and Prudence you two ladies deserves 10 stars - thank you stepping up. One would think after spending so much money that we would have been treated with a slight bit of importance
