Akeso psychiatrist complaint
I will never ever go back to this place ever again. The specialists are unhelpful. All of them are unreachable. The place is unreachable. I won't name my psychiatrist but let's just say she messed me up so badly that she blocked me off her what's app. What an absolute ***ard. After numerous times of expressing that the meds were not working I was put on Ketamine treatment which also was a flop. I was this doctor's lab rat. I hope she gets what she deserves one day.

Unreliable Emergency Care
I have been a patient at Akeso Crescent Clinic since the age of 15, and I am now 26. Throughout my time under your care, I was consistently assured by my doctors and the******s that the Akeso emergency line was available 24/7 in case of a psychiatric crisis. On the morning of 19 July, I experienced a psychiatric emergency around 3:00 AM. Between 03:36 and 04:08, I made nine attempts to contact the emergency line. Several calls failed to connect, while others placed me on hold for an extended period with no response. Eventually, I received a call back at 12:03 PM, several hours later, at a point when I was unable to speak. The representative scheduled a follow-up call with a counsellor for 3:00 PM that afternoon — but that call never happened. For an institution like Akeso, which promotes itself as a leader in mental healthcare and emphasizes reliability and patient wellbeing, this experience was deeply distressing and disheartening. Being in a state of crisis, reaching out for help, and being met with silence or delays is not only unacceptable — it is dangerous. Having entrusted Akeso with my psychiatric care for over a decade, this experience has significantly impacted my trust. Over the years, the service has begun to feel increasingly corporate and impersonal, a stark contrast to the supportive environment that initially brought me and my family to your care. I hope this complaint will be taken seriously, and that measures will be put in place to ensure that no other patient is left feeling abandoned in their most vulnerable moments.

Unreliable Emergency Care
I have been a patient at Akeso Crescent Clinic since the age of 15, and I am now 26. NETCARE AKESO PORT ELIZABETH, ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT
NETCARE AKESO CLINIC, PORT ELIZABETH- ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT The medical aids only pays for 21 days for admission to a stress clinic. As my 21 days were exhausted, I was made aware of this and unsimphathetically told that I shall be discharged. No reference was made to further admission packages. My doctor advised that the first package was for 10 days costing R28000. In the interim my doctor relentlessly liazed with Bankmed for ex gratio days for me to stay on and Bankmed will pay for this. Obviously this did not happen due to Bankmed's policies.Hence I was forced to pay R30 000.00 from my credit card for an extra 10 days as my mental health was very bad. On the 2 June Bankmed confirmed the allowance of 5 ex grato days comprising a credit due to me for more or less R13000.00. Since then and several emails to Akeso the funds still has not been received. I was just placed under permanent dissability on 1 June 2025 hence losing 35% of my salary. This is extremely poor service by Akeso"s administration department. The funds are desperately needed due to my financial position and just was advised that I need to pay R6000.00 as my dog has cancer. Akeso was quick to advise of my discharge but poor to refund my own money. I must acknowledge that Akeso"s nursing staff and my own doctor Dr Heidi Loffstadt and her immediate staff is extremely helpfull, compassionate and caring!!! Thank God for that. I noticed that they have a system during visiting hours where some patients are benefiting from... Some get an extra longer time to sit with their partners like 15 to 20 minutes longer... How do you not follow your own rules or is it that your staff favors others more, like the young lady with her elder partner, Grey haired... It was given through to them, but still they do whatever they want... Rules are there for a reason and you not being fair to other patients...

Netcare Akeso Walmer
I am appalled by the utter incompetence displayed during my stay. Despite the hospital's supposedly high standards, I was served inedible food one night, it tasted terrible, I was left hungry and decided to just order myself some food and thought a nurse could get it for me, and not informed about the no-outside-food policy. Not once was I told that you cant order food, a week before my stay my daughter was a patient, and she was able to recieve outside food hence I was convinced it was okay. When I ordered a pizza, staff and security refused it, wasting R230 of my money. The most egregious part? Being expected to take medication on an empty stomach, which is medically unsound. I refused, citing this absurd expectation. No alternative meal was offered, despite the nurse noting my negligible food intake. This hospital's priorities seem skewed. But that's not all. The nursing staff somehow managed to miss my occupational therapy session, causing me to miss it entirely. As a direct result, my discharge date was pushed back from June 6th to June 9th, forcing me to incur additional unnecessary costs. I'm expected to pay for three extra days due to their t. This is unacceptable. I demand a review of the circumstances surrounding my missed appointment and the resulting extension of my stay. I refuse to bear the financial burden of their mistakes. Also another thing, I've noticed that when I request extra helpings, they're always refused. Furthermore, the morning routine is inconvenient. Patients are woken up at 5:30/6:00 AM for blood pressure checks, but then we're forced to wait until 8:00 AM for coffee. This seems unnecessary, especially since we're already awake! All these factors made my stay at Netcare Akeso terrible, The doctors are great, psychiatrists, occupational the******s. But the bare minimum of service from the nurses, its not the best. Especially since this institute has patients including myself who are depressed anxious have PTSD. As a patient with a frontal lobe injury I think I require specific care and attention. My memory span is really short. And I dont think the service I recieved is the best I could do.

It is by Gods grace that I am still alive today…
I was admitted at Akeso, Randburg on the 01/03/2024 then got discharged on the 20/03/2024, I then went back to work 1st week of April 24. On the 26th Apr 24 I unfortunately got a letter of retrenchment due to operational reasons….I notified my psychiatrist, ever since she has been giving me a cold shoulder, ignoring my text & calls…I went to my local clinic to get my prescription & I was told I needed a referral letter & my script/ empty containers so they know which medication I was on and a Dr will evaluate me…at this point I had no medication left…After numerous attempts to get hold of my psychiatrist then some day she decided to pick up my call and I notified her that I went to the local clinic to get my prescription then they requested me to bring a referral letter & script or empty container of my prescription she did not seem to have a problem with that , she asked that I WhatsApp her my email address, I immediately sent it this was on the 23rd May…as per usual I kept sending text messages/calls to remind her of the referral letter, she never answers…The last text I sent her was this afternoon 18 Sep 24, never got a reply….Early hours of this morning I texted my psychologist asking her to provide me with a referral letter and explained why it’s needed , she responded to my WhatsApp this evening at 19:42 , from the response's she was giving me it was crystal clear that she will not assist me instead she told me to go back there & call her so she can speak to whoever that did not want to assist me, in short I told her I will not go back there , shortly afterwards at 20:32 I received an email , attached was the referral letter I have been asking for… months ago and it was dated 5 Sep 2024. What hurts me the most in that they know what will happen if you don’t adhere to treatment , they used to preach the importance of it but because today I am unemployed I’m not worthy of their time /assistance….These past few months I’ve been really sick as a result to get better I had to use the money I got for UIF to buy meds which are very expensive and I could not take them as prescribed because I was saving them, once I feel sick I’ll resume taking them till I feel better, no words can describe the pain I have been feeling… Worse part they know I am unemployed ,facing financial difficulties with no financial support and still grieving my aunt/mother and my younger brother who passed early this year. My mom 27 Jan 24 and younger brother committed suicide on the 09 Feb day before his birthday, till this day I have not healed & that was the reason I had to get admitted to a psychiatric institution… this year so far has been hell & back…Personally I would not recommend Akeso Randburg.
