WATCH OUT FOR THIS COMPANY!!! The Business Directory marketing company has been making *****ulent payment demands and harassing my small, one-man business. I was initially contacted by this company via WhatsApp regarding a marketing service to assist my business with advertising across various social media platforms and online directories. All communication took place via WhatsApp. In the very first message it was clearly stated that the marketing service was a 12-month package for a once-off payment of R1,500. Based on this, I proceeded with payment. Thereafter, they sent me links to the adverti*****ts that were created. I did not receive any further communication from them after October 2024. Since February 2026, I have been receiving repeated emails and payment demands for an alleged outstanding amount, despite the fact that the original invoice was marked as paid. Today, I received another email as well as additional WhatsApp messages stating that I must pay cancellation fees or an additional R1,500 for the time the adverti*****ts have been running. Their offices now claims that the adverts continue to run beyond the 12-month period I originally agreed to, despite no further consent from my side. Furthermore, they have threatened to flag my business as a “bad payer” on Google and other social media platforms, as well as to blacklist my business on ITC, should I refuse to make further payment.

I am the co-owner of a business in South Africa, and I’ve been harassed by so-called “Business Directory” ****mers since 2016. They’ve resurfaced again in 2025—same tactics, same threats.

I placed an advert with Business Directory in 2024. It cost me R1500 for a year. This year on expiry I was contacted by a lady at Business Directory and she asked if I would like to re new. I said no thank you. She then said okay, they will then take me off their website. A Few weeks later, I was contacted by their collections department and was told that I need to pay a cancellation fee of R1500 to be removed from their advertising site. I said that I will not pay this, as I was never told that there would be a cancellation fee after a year when my 1st year expires. They now keep on harassing me on WhatsApp wit voice messages and several calls. I finally blocked them after I received a message that they red flagged me on Google as a bad payer.

I received a WhatsApp message with a "Final Demand" threatening to ITC and blacklist me and be red-flagged as a bad payer all over Google if I did not pay them by the end of the day. I had a choice of either paying R2500 for my ad to run another year or R1850 to cancel my contract. When I asked them for proof of this contract, as I was unaware of it, they sent me an advert over 10 years old, and they could not provide me with any contract. They said that it was a verbal contract. When I asked them why I'd not heard from them in 10 years, they said they had been sending me emails and SMSs, but I was not responding. I asked them to please send me proof of the emails to our current email address and copies of the messages they had sent, but threats continued as, according to them, the contract was a verbal one. They could not send me anything besides an old advert with incorrect information—the wrong email address, the incorrect hours of operation, the incorrect logo, etc. All information was info from more than 10 years ago. I was eventually bul**** into paying R1850 to cancel the listing or face the consequences. As a small business owner with no budget to fight with lawyers, I couldn't take a chance. My point of view is that the whole ordeal was *********. Anet, the lady who threatened me with blacklisting, said she has been the debt collector for the company for 12 years already. She said I was the only person unhappy with Business Directory Reg No: 2018/068971/07. I am their only non-payer... "everyone else just pays." I find their "verbal contracts" ********* and unprofessional. Maar ja... I was forced to pay to protect my name and business from blacklisting. The invoice they sent me on WhatsApp at first didn't even have an invoice number on it; then they sent me another one dated 25 November 2025. When I questioned their mistakes, I was told, "Everybody makes mistakes." When I said that this all sounded like a **** and that the person giving her the information was talking K*K, I was told not to use words like that on her phone. Honestly... like k*k is the worst word she'd ever heard. Terrible! Unprofessional! I think I was ****med!

This pathetic company harassed me weekly back in 2015 I think it was. We never, in 16 years, do or ever done on line marketing. All work is word of mouth. Kept blocking there number as wasn't interested. A mail appeared with a pathetic looking advert (comical) with my company logo on it. Completely amateurish and cheap looking. They said for R2200 I could be put on business directory. I remember so well writing to them that if you put that ****py advert on your directory there will be lawyer's letters - that pathetic standard of advert does not represent my company So no, we definitely never requested your very poor quality services (really the ad they made up looked like it was done by a 8 year old for a school project). They have been sending me an invoice for unrequested "services" still to this day. Suggest you just tell them where to go. Check there facebook page for the poor standard of ad they will try and force on you https://www.facebook.com/busidirectory
