I visited Cafe Gitano and found the experience to be a mix of highs and lows. 🍴 Food Ingredients were fresh and flavors balanced, but quality varied across dishes. Some were well-executed, others felt rushed. Food was served at the right temperature. 🍽️ Presentation & Cleanliness Plating was clean but lacked creativity. Unfortunately, the utensils were dirty, and the table smelled strongly of detergent, which took away from the experience. 🧑🍳 Service The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, though their appearance (e.g., untucked shirt) could have been neater. Service timing was well-paced. 🪑 Atmosphere Comfortable seating and good lighting, but the restroom was in poor condition — dirty sink, toilet seat, broken lock, and paper on the floor. 💰 Value For the price, the meal was acceptable. Portions matched the cost, and the menu was clearly priced. Still, the experience wasn't compelling enough for a return. Verdict: Decent food and service, but let down by hygiene issues and lack of consistency. Worth a try, but not one I’d revisit.

Pathetic food
Went to cafe gitano and ordered a pizza. The pizza tasted awful as if the ingredients were off. Sad to say but the best way to describe the taste of the pizza was vomit. I told the waiter about it and he called the general manager who began to explain to me that it is meant to taste that way as opposed to taking heed of the fact that we were given a terrible pizza. He focused on the sauce and tried to justify the sauce not being spicy but he missed the point that the pizza tasted horrible and it wasn't the bland sauce that was the issue.

Went to cafe gitano and ordered a pizza. The pizza tasted awful as if the ingredients were off. Sad to say but the best way to describe the taste of the pizza was vomit. Disgusted by the food and service
Kitchen staff is absolutely slow yet restaurant is quite. Food arrives cold and soggy. Good is tasteless. Hake and Prawn combo was more steamed than grilled Chicken and Prawn Hotpot is horrible

Slow kitchen service and blend tasing food ruined my birthday in 2024.
I had the WORST birthday experience with Cafe Gitano Pavilion. The waitress Yolanda was so efficient, polite , professional and she was trying by all means to get our orders on time, however the kitchen staff was just NOT interested. YOLANDA kept running back & forth and constantly updated me on the progress which i highly appreciate. I really want to thank YOLANDA for at least trying to save my special day the best way she could. The food came in dribs and drabs, TWO orders did not arrive until we requested for it to be cancelled from order… Then all of a sudden the food comes and it’s Charred! We had to ask them to pack the food as takeaway since we were done with waiting for over an hour!!! (Photos available on request). My guests had to leave in the middle of the sitting due to slow service and blend tasting food. I informed (African female) Management and nothing was done about the situation nor feedback given… Before going home, on my way to the bathroom an (African male) manager was screaming & shouting at staff in front of customers about dirty plates left at kitchen foyer!!! I am really disappointed that my guests and experience such poor service and i had to pay R1400 when i was so unhappy and dissatisfied. I really hope someone will contact me with regards to my complaint.

Tastless food
I ordered Morrocan pizza that was tastless ,It had old onions smell on it ,and I also ordered platter for 220 that said tiger prawns ,the prawns was so small I couldn't believe my eyes ,I won't be going back there ,very disappointed in there food taste

Tastless food

Poor service. There were 4 seaters of 6 at the pavilion gitano. My partner and I had asked to sit at one of them as we are sharing a pizza. We were told we cannot as it’s a 6 seater but the restaurant was empty. Then shortly after the waitresses had allowed more people - couples to sit on the 6 seater. The waitress had then given the wrong drink item to me also. Why can’t all patrons be treated equally with equally service

Simple Sophisticated - Cafe Gitano Pavillion
This simple restaurant-Café Gitano situated in Pavilion, is one of my favorites, the food is so good and well presented. There is a variety on the menu including drinks. The set up is of a comfy chilled style, so you can sit back and indulge in one of their meals whether it be Date night or chilling with friends /family/after shopping . The service is top notch. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Simple Sophisticated - Cafe Gitano Pavillion

The set up is of a comfy chilled style, so you can sit back and indulge in one of their meals whether it be Date night or chilling with friends /family/after shopping . The service is top notch. Bland Bland Bland, food with no flavour at all.
Ordered the lamb shank, Pork belly and the Pork Medallions for wife, daughter and myself here at Cafe Gitano in Pavilion Durban. The quality of the food has dropped tremendously, the lamb normally has its own flavor, but was just unflavored meat on the bone, the mash that used to be creamy and flavourful is now just boiled and mashed up potatoes. The food is very bland and unsatisfactory. I cannot remember a time I used so much salt just to add some taste. Worst R550 I have spent and very doubtful I will be back. Left a bitter taste in having lunch here.
