Subject: Complaint Regarding Rejected Insurance Claim – CIA Insurance I would like to raise a concern regarding my recent experience with CIA Insurance and the handling of a claim submitted for water damage at my home. A water leak occurred in my kitchen and garage after a geyser pipe burst suspected within the wall. The leak was unfortunately not immediately observed because it was inside the walls and therefore not visible. In addition, the garage walls were obstructed by fridges and couches that were in storage, which made identifying the source of the leak impossible at the time. The kitchen cupboards obstructed it on the kitchen side. Once we noticed the problem, we immediately logged a claim. Since then, my family has had to close the main water supply to prevent further damage to the house and its contents, leaving us without running water for an extended period. The damage includes water affecting the kitchen cupboard, walls in the garage and kitchen, and water exposure to the tiled floor. Although the tiles did not lift, they were exposed to water for a significant period. CIA Insurance rejected the claim on the basis that they believe the damage is old. However, the pipe has since burst completely and floods the house when the water supply is opened, clearly indicating that the damage was related to a concealed plumbing failure and not something that was reasonably detectable earlier. This situation has left my family in a very uncomfortable position, without water and with visible damage to the property. As a policyholder, one expects support and fair consideration in circumstances such as these. I respectfully request CIA Insurance to review this matter again and provide a clearer explanation for the rejection, as well as consider reconsidering the claim in light of the concealed nature of the leak. If this matter is not resolved urgently and fairly, I will have no option but to escalate the complaint to the Ombudsman for Short-Term Insurance and pursue further formal channels to review the handling and rejection of this claim. Please advise what I can do. Kind regards Cornelis Muller

I'd give them zero stars if possible. They will look for any reason to reject claims, regardless of how ridiculous they are. You're wasting your money paying their premium. They won't pay out when you claim anyway. Busy with the Ombud. Hopefully they shut this place down.

Avoid them like the plague!!!!!!!!!! It has been more than 4 weeks that they can't get back to a person about making a distion on a leaking pipe. It's starts first that they apparently can't find a plumber in the area to come out to look . They then instructed me to get one out , i then done do on the terms that its their request . Once that was done they then requested the report . On the grounds of the report they sent an assessor to come see the issue . Bare in mind the leak is under ground and no leak is visible as to is no pipes . This assesor makes the assumption that its not a burst pipe but worn out pipe and this falls under ware and tear apparently. Wish I was blessed with x ray vision that I to can see threw concrete non the less. They take more than four weeks to make the decision that they will not honor the claim and will also not pay the call out for the plumber they requested me to get out So for the past 4 weeks the leak has wasted more than a 7 KL of water and 700kw of power as its a hot water leak . So not only are they useless in service delivery they are eco-unfriendly and all round futility Save yourself the time and effort and use a other insurance company.

Avoid CIA Insurance at All Costs! I recently filed a claim for a burst water pipe inside my wall, which caused significant damage. To my astonishment, CIA Insurance rejected my claim, citing that the event must be "sudden and unforeseen." The burst pipe was indeed sudden and unforeseen, as it occurred without warning due to a water outage followed by a surge when the supply returned. CIA Insurance's rejection is not only unfair but also contradicts their own policy Their unfair claim rejection practices and questionable interpretation of their own policy make them an unreliable and ************* insurer.

Some useless insurance company, walk away if you are looking for insurance cover. They took ages to respond to a storm damage claim. With the rains the roof and ceiling damage became progressive, and when they eventually come, they declined it because it wasnt due to a single storm event. What hogwash. They just increase the premiums as they wish, multiple times between anniversary periods. Run for your life

I’m extremely disappointed with the service received from CIA Insurance. I submitted a claim for water damage to my property, specifically to the walls, only to be met with an unfair and accusatory response. Firstly, the insurance took almost two months to provide an outcome. The claim was declined. Instead of assessing the situation thoroughly and providing support as expected from a reputable insurance provider, they outright denied the claim. Till date, I do not know why it was declined. However, it was appealed and the insurance is only covering 50%. To make matters worse, they accused me of causing the damage myself by removing the skirtings—an allegation that is both baseless and offensive. The contractor was repairing my laminate flooring and had to remove the skirtings so that flooring sits flush against the wall. The assessor on inspection confirmed that it was water damage and led us on to say that the claim would be covered with no excess. The reason for the insurance only covering 50% is apparently because not all skirtings had to be removed to repair the flooring. So basically, they wanted my flooring to be repaired poorly and the water damage on the walls to be hidden. It’s incredibly disheartening to pay a bond and premiums in good faith, only to be treated with suspicion and disregard when you genuinely need help. The lack of empathy, poor communication, and speaks volumes about how CIA Insurance treats its customers. Furthermore, their assessors led on clients during their assessment. I did not know that home insurances like to take short cuts and encourage poor workmanship. They need to take lessons from car insurances. I would caution anyone considering them—what’s the point of having insurance if you're left high and dry when something actually goes wrong?

Twice I have had geyser first bursting, then leaking in 13 months. They refuse to pay out extensive cupboard damage both times and only part of the geyser expenses, stating that the damage was "wear and tear" when it clearly is not. Busy with Ombudsman.
