Opt-out function is a ****.
The opt-out function is useless. Their members, such as Discovery, appoint rude marketers to phone trying to sell insurance to the deceased on their orphaned children’s personal phones, and then pretend that they are not involved. DMASA have done nothing about the years of harassment I have endured at the hands of its members. On the 4th anniversary of my father’s death, I received a call on my phone from a marketer representing several DMASA members (including Discovery) looking to speak to my father. I now have a longer list of blocked numbers than contacts! DMASA is in direct violation of POPIA and CPA. What’s worse is I cannot opt my deceased parents out because they are dead. So there is no end in sight.

Dear DMA Team I am furstrated that registerting for your opt out service is not working! Two cases on https://www.nationaloptout.org/ For ID 9002190085081 at email alettaelizabeth@vodamail.co.za , the verification email is not comimg through (it is not blocked or in junk mail). For ID 8302155049085 at email gert.vonbenekce@vodamail.co.za , the reset password email is not coming through ((it is not blocked or in junk mail). We are being hounded with spam calls and it seem that your system does not want to help!

Not meeting minimum service levels
Can't even get a password reminder easily... I did finally manage to get one and the password worked for one day. Pathetic organisation, does not keep my number blocked or private :(

Their website certificate of authority is invalid: Attackers might be trying to ***** your information from www.dmasa.org (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). Learn more NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID So I am in danger even from the place I went to for help.

Direct Marketing and POPI Act Violation
This company is breaking all the POPI act laws in South Africa and no one seems to care. When the regulations came in to place, I assumed - no more marketing calls. But there doesn't seem to be a different from before to after the regulations were implemented. Companies are still calling you day and night. Companies I do not even know, hence I did not give them permission to call me for marketing purposes. I always ask, how did you get my number? They will say - from "Direct Marketing Database". Who gives this organisation the right to just collect people's personal information and contact details, where is their privacy policy, where is the collection point? Upon further research, I find that there is another database they manage called the "opt-out" list. They say, you must complete your details on this list to opt-out of being called for marketing. I say, the law is clear - before you call me, I need to opt-in first, not the other way round. You don't collect numbers and then make it my problem to opt-out. I cant search the whole internet to opt out of every list out there, someone needs to start looking at these companies. We know who they are, they are big corporates who just disregard the law and there are no consequences for it. By the way the marketing call today was Discovery, they are the biggest abusers of the POPI act, I do not even have a single discovery product, but I get calls from them all the time - its either car insurance, medical aid or some other product.
