Mr Johan Kotze requested a deposit from our tenants which was paid to him.
He refuses to refund the deposit, does not return emails and does not answer phone calls.

We've been trying for 6 months to get the deposit refunded to the tenant.

Be aware of dealing with him! Our experience shows he is not an honest person. Looking at all the complains, it seems we are not the only ones who suffer from his behavior. I think he may have closed shop, and opened another business under a different name.

In mid December of 2013 I paid a deposit and 1 months rent to DIYLandlords/Rentthiproperty to rent a flat at 13 Ashbury Complex in Buh Rein Estate. I then went away on holiday after informing Donovan (their employee who showed me the flat) that I would require to move in on the 30 Dec (they can charge rent if they require) or 2nd of January 2014. Donovan told me that would be fine. Upon my return I called Donovan on the 29th of December who was unavailable but I later managed to get hold of Johan who told me a story about needing a few days to inspect the property, which turned to the owner being away in the E.C. with the keys. Because the flat was unavailable for my occupation at the agreed date, I gave it a few days but still no solution. This ended up with Johan not answering my calls, texts and emails. When I finally managed to speak to him, he called me difficult and offered to refund my money. Which I gladly accepted.

Needless to say, it is over a year now and i still have not been refunded. He doesnt answer my calls nor reply to emails. The last time he promised a refund was in November 2014 but still to this day I have not been refunded my R8950

Johan Kotze rented a property from me since mid 2013. In late 2014 he started missing monthly payments. In early 2015 he missed more payments. Many unkept promises and falshoods later, I learn now that he heas been sub-letting the property in the name of DIYLANDLORDS without my knowlegde to another unsuspecting tenant since Arpil 2015 and that he has racked an unpaid water and electricity account with the City of Cape Town to the tune of R 29,000 for this property. I will now proceed with a civil suit for the unpaid W&E bill, as well as criminal comlaint of fraud. See you not in court, but behand bars Mr Kotze.

The owner cancelled his contract almost 8 months back with DIY LAndlords and started renting out his property to us by him self since then we have not received any deposits back from Johan Kotze theire land line is not in use any more and they never anser calls to theire celphone or even respond to email or any cominication. They hold a lot of deposits from previouse tenants two. We are renting from the owner directly now who wants his deposit but we stil have not received our double deposit back. Why is this the tenants problem if the owner canceld his deal with DIY landlords with out telling us or getting our deposit from them

I rented through DIY Landlords for a year on an estate in Kraaifontein. After one year of renting I am now struggling for 3months already to get back my deposit from DIY Landlords/ Johan Kotze. He ignores all my calls and emails or any other attempt of correspondence.

A family member rented an apartment (Buh-rein estate) from Mr Johan Kotze, DIY Landlords. We paid a deposit and a rental payment of 1.5 months upfront in order to have the apartment immediately. We paid Mr Kotze an amount of R11,325-00. On arrival, Mr Kotze told us that the apartment was taken by someone else. We agreed that the R11,325-00 would be refunded immediately. To date this was not done. It is now almost two months later. He does not answer his telephone or respond to any messages. We are now forced to open a case at the police.
Should anyone else be aware of any incidents, please contact us on [Email Removed]
