Dr Lorgat is a brilliant doctor ,had a great experience with him and his team . His receptionist sofika gave me excellent service and slotted me in even though Dr being fully booked ,she made a plan. His rates are fair and also understandable. However dealing with the professional nurse was not friendly at all. ..Terrible practice manager and wife ,she should leave the practice she's giving her husband a terrible reputation.

I was surprised to read these bad reviews as my Cardiologist recommended that I go to Dr Lorgat for my Atrial Ablation as he said he is the best. As he is so busy I had to wait about 3 months for an opening in October. The practice sent me an email a week before the procedure detailing the codes and costs so I could check with my medical aid what they would pay towards it and I got confirmation from medical aid that my plan would pay in full. The practice also sent me everything needed for hospital admission, anesthetist etc. When I met Dr Lorgat I found him to be very empathetic, caring and informative. After the surgery I also had to get report from Dr Lorgat for medical insurance which was duly supplied at minimal cost after establishing what format was required. There is a delay when dealing with Dr Lorgats practice which is understandable as they obviously have to consult with him and he is very busy as he is a pioneer in his field. Overall I found Dr Lorgat, his surgical team, the cardioligist Dr Claire Zondach and Christian Barnard Hospital to be a 5 star team.

I was referred to Dr Lorgat's practice by my GP in 2012 and had dealings with them until 2018. My overall experience with and impression of the general attitude of Dr Lorgat and his staff is that they are simply too busy or too important to care. This attitude is particularly manifest when it comes to patient follow-up, which is virtually non-existent. I also had to grapple with their reluctance, tardiness and carelessness with regard to preparing and sharing clinical reports with interested parties like patients' referring doctors, insurers or medical aid schemes, or even patients themselves. In one instance, the clinical records sent to my insurer, Liberty Life, were mixed up with records of another patient. As a result of this mix-up - which Dr Lorgat's practice refused to rectify after I had overtly requested that they do so - my insurer could not process my claim. Furthermore, the insurer had committed on paper to cover all the costs (including tests) involved in the preparation of the clinical reports. This arrangement was clearly explained and acquiesced to by the practice. I was peeved and understandably shocked to see those accounts sent to me personally a couple of months later by a debt collection agency. Quite clearly, Dr Lorgat practice had not sent the accounts to the insurer as agreed simply because, true to form, they had not bothered to prepare the corresponding clinical reports which would have served as proof to my insurer that the services being billed had indeed been provided. Much as I have no reason to doubt or question Dr Lorgat's technical competence or experience, I found his hands-off and rather aloof attitude both offputting and not in the least reassuring. For this and other reasons outlined above, I am afraid, I would not recommend the good doctor's practice.

Dr Lorgat performed an oblation on me on 29 June. I was having some issues with my heart. Although I tried many times to speak to him, his staff blocked me, but eventually I got a message to go to his surgery to have a Holter fitted. I wore the device for 5 days and had it removed on 8 July. His staff have not allowed me to speak to him, nor will they send my results through to my referring cardiologist. On 25 July, a woman identifying herself as Mrs Lorgat the “Office Manager” phoned me to tell me Dr Lorgat was too busy to speak to me and besides there was nothing wrong with me. I’m pretty sure that this woman having my results is a breach of doctor/patient confidentiality. She promised to mail me my results, but had not. I think the entire practice needs to start treating patients as people and not a sausage factory. I am disgusted by the arrogance and rudeness of the entire practice.

Joh - I cant believe what I see, these negative reviews. My oh my. Dr Lorgat is both me and my mother's cardiologist. We both have had heart surgery at him (my mom more than once) and I can just say that - I would probably have been dead by now have I not trusted him to do my surgery. I'm not saying that he is the only good surgeon - I am saying though - that he is the best. I am, and will, be forever grateful. I believe in this man.

I would like to give him zero stars, but had to give him one as per this website. I had an ablation procedure done in Jan 2019 ..... he told me afterwards that there would possibly be further surgery required, but that we would stay in touch and monitor. Well, nothing could be further from the truth! I had a severe cough for 4 months after the procedure, but despite trying to contact him many times, he just wasn't interested. I got my GP to intercede, and eventually i was sent for further tests. To this day, I doubt he has even looked at the results. It took me over a month just to get his practise to send the results to me - this after they promised he would phone me. Frankly, I am so disappointed that a doctor can behave like this. My GP has also stopped recommending him and was disgusted over the whole episode. Seems like Dr Lorgat is only interested in how many operations he does - like notches on his belt. I wish I had never gone to him in the first place - I am now seeing another, equally qualified, but caring doctor. My advice - stay away!! Do your research - there are other good cardiologists in Cape Town who perform this procedure.

Dr Lorgat is highly acclaimed and respected and his professionalism cannot be argued nor the amazing work he does in the field of cardiology.

Is he aware of the poor customer service in his accounts department and the behaviour of his Practice Manager. I would like to think not!!

Mischka Lorgat refuses to allow patients to speak to Dr Lorgat and demands to know every detail as to why the patient wants to speak to the doctor. She boasts of being the Practice Manager and a Professional Nurse but in truth and In my opinion she does more harm than good to Dr Lorgat's practice Both of those titles are misnomers in my experience.

Discovery authorised a full procedure and no amount was mentioned that had to be paid over and above the approved amount for the procedure which was paid 100% by Discovery. Dr Lorgat himself confirmed that Discovery covered the costs of the procedure before the procedure was done. The patient was not adivsed prior to the procedure that there would be an additional amount for payment despite numerous requests about this

When Dr Lorgat's accounts staff submitted the claim for payment there was suddenly an amount which was not covered by Discovery.

In all my medical dealings. specialists submit a quote to Discovery and the patent is immediatly informed if there is a shortfall. In fact, most specialists or their staff point this out to patients prior to submittng their quotation to Discovery. This is a completely transparent and ethical approach

I do not believe that Dr Lorgat is aware that Mischka is not adopting this apprach and is therefore not managing his practice properly.

In the current case the patient was not informed up front of any additional amounts for which she would be liable.- The shock came after the procedure.

Relevant documentation has been requested from Mischka Lorgat in order sort out this matter but she point blank refuses to provide the documents requested. She insists the patient is liable but will not produce the documents that prove that she is correct in stating that the pationt is liable so the liklihood is that no documents to this effect exist. She seems to lack understanding of accounting, credit management and the fact that patients are entitled to documents that relate to any claims for payment. More importantly, that she needs to treat them with respect. She certainly does not know what customer service is.

Dr Lorgat would be horrified if he knew how she treats his patients - I am sure. Her attitude is very highhanded, rude, abrasive and at times downright insulting..

From my experience it seems she expects patients to shut up and pay up without adequate proof that they actually owe what she claims they owe. They owe it because she says they owe it since she is in charge of Dr Lorgat's practice and he is too busy to be bothered with such mundate issues.

I sincerely hope he is not too busy to care about the idamage being done every time Mischka Lorgat takes an officious approach to dealing with accounts queries.

SANC should be advided of unprofessional behaviour of " Professional Nurses" who are far from professinal and more importantly we believe that Dr Lorgat needs to be made aware of the bad service emanating from his Practice Manager and accounts department first. and the damage being done to his practice since she ensures that no complaints about her poor behaviour can be relayed to him by his patients.
