The Hussar Grill (now at the Oceans Centre in Umhlanga) is always an enjoyable dining experience. The menus is extensive and good. Service is very good and the meals I have had there are always excellent. I like the little touch of a complimentary chocolate liqueur at the end of the meal.

I recently visited The Hussar Grill at Gateway. I was very disappointed with the meals we received. My husband ordered the T Bone which was very dry. I ordered the calamari. The calamari was so tiny and the portion was very small. I was give 10 tiny tubes and 4 pieces tiny heads. The lemon butter sauce just tasted like butter.

We had a meal at Hussars Grill Gateway on Monday 05 Nov 18 late afternoon - and were almost the only people in the restaurant. Reception was poor and we were seated at a table - no wineglasses or cutlery or serviettes which we thought would be quickly rectified - was not the case. The lady serving us spoke extremely quickly and was hard to understand - and did not even know if the restaurant had Bombay gin although it is an item on the menu or what other items on the menu represented - such as Fillet Mignon . Our gin and tonic was served without further information and in glasses that would do better at the local bazzar - no ice provided I ordered fillet on the bone - Although well prepared, the fillet itself was extremely poor and contained a large amount of inedible sinew. The noise from the staff chatting in the kitchen area background was a constant throughout the meal. About half way through the meal a gentleman introduced himself as the manager - I showed him the fillet and he said he would report the matter to the chef. We also then asked for serviettes which were then provided At the end of the meal I insisted on talking to the chef if merely to inform him of the matter - he eventually appeared and said he would take the matter up with the butcher this week One cannot blame the staff - there is obviously a total lack of staff training - client interest, professionalism - and food and service quality - which for a meal well over the R500 marker is not acceptable I would strongly suggest you skip this one under the current circumstances!!! - there are better restaurants in the area.....
