I went in to Midsteam Mediclinic to have major spinal surgery in October. It was very difficult to find a nurse when I was in ICU. I couldn’t find my call button on multiple occasions and couldn’t turn over or even move to try to find it, so resorted to calling out for someone to assist me - sometimes for several minutes. This went on for 5 days! On one occasion my visitor - who was with me for more than 2 hours went to locate a nurse (I was supposed to be turned every hour) only to find them all in the nurses station! The patients were being ignored. The worst part is because of their neglect I became over hydrated to such an extent that I had a cardiac arrest! A sister then came and shoved a mask on me and when I tried to say that I was claustrophobic I was shouted at and was threatened to be restrained. I put in a complaint - at the suggestion of my surgeon - with the hospital and with the matron of the ICU. I was told that the sister in question would be reported to the agency. The agency!! This is one of the most expensive Medi clinics in the country and they get their nursing staff from an agency? They know nothing about your medical history and obviously don’t check the charts or they wouldn’t have over hydrated me or neglected turning me or even checked on me! When I asked about the neglect by the staff I was told that she would look into it. I have heard nothing back, even though I emphasised the fact that I could have died of the cardiac arrest. The nurses in the ward were very unfriendly and extremely rough with my brace when turning me over. When again I couldn’t find my call button I had a panic attack I was so traumatised after my treatment in ICU.

I gave birth early this year 8th of May . My gynaecologist was obviously great and the hospital was fairly clean however I have a few complaints which I raised after being discharged which were not addressed . 1. I had an emergency first C-section as my baby was in distress , I was nervous and very scared , I got surrounded by a number of doctors and was overwhelmed, the doctor who performed the epidural explained everything in detail but I have an issue with the rotor associated with Tanya associates. She came and gave me socks which she explained that I had to put on and gave me a belt for my stomach . When I got discharged I received an email stating I owe her R1022 as she tried claiming from my medical aid however she used the wrong codes as she tried claiming through my day to say benefits but I was in hospital for four days !!!! When I was given these items she never gave me an amount not announce as I would’ve gladly told her I couldn’t sign off on it while half drugged ! I’m getting a number of invoices from them and I did request they take these items back as I feel they took advantage of the situation . I have a problem with the hospital allowing different doctors coming to you while drugged and these doctors don’t fully explain their roles and fees due to them . I have sent an email complaining but to date no one has responded to me and it’s upsetting .

on 4 August 2025 I was scheduled for Surgery at Midstream Mediclinic Hospital. I filled in a comprehensive and very accurate on-line admission at home prior t6o going to Hospital but still had to wait for over an hour in the freezing cold wind at Reception to sign some documents, which probably could have been given to me in the Ward or signed electronically at Home...On arrival at the Surgical ward I found that my valuables Locker was broken and notwithstanding my request for repairs, it was not attended to before I was taken to Theatre. Outside Theatre someone discovered that I had not had the required Blood Tests done and had to be tested quickly prior to having surgery. On waking up post Surgery, I was informed that although I was to recover in ICU, said ICU was full and I was left in a passage somewhere for nearly 2 hours. At this stage I had been without drinking water for more than 18 hours and had my Wife bring me a bottle of water to drink. Other nearby Patients were also requesting Family members to bring Food and Water. Later in the ICU at Dinner time I was given Pasta to eat even though I made this known to Kitchen, Ward and Admissions. Throughout the Night the ICU was very noisy mostly due to Hospital staff. Positives: The Surgical Team is World Class. The Food other than being inappropriate was tasty and well prepared.

Patient was at Emergency around 9am. The surgeon to review Xrays and the Dr on call was unreachable. Patient eventually got admitted but we still have not seen the Dr on call to explain what happened. The staff in the emergency ward keeps telling me that there is no other Dr on call or available. When I enquired if we can get the patient referred to another specialst, we were told we could not.

I had a procedure booked for the 23 July , I am scared of operations , because of a very bad experience 14 year ago , so i do anything in my control to minimize it . So I especially went in on 22 nd to the hospital to complete all my paper work with Marius , he was very friendly and helpful . I arranged with doctor to be first on theater list and they kindly accommodated me . The next morning I arrived at 6 am , as i reported myself , they said that paper work all done and must just sit for a short while. I sat until way after 9 am , and the only feedback was that they have no beds available. I was eventually accommodated in the emergency unit room , then rushed me to theater to only lie there for another hour . This after I spoke to complaints manager who also does bed allocation , Dimakatso , the day before. This is second time this happened to me and this for someone that has an anxiety for theaters . What a useless hospital.

My mother has been in the ICU for 6 weeks. She was seen by Dr. Liezl Steyn, Neurologist. We received a message from the nursing staff that the Doctor tried to reach us. We went to the reception and they called the Dr. She was unavailable. Then I got a message from her via reception that " she is not on call and she knows I am looking for her so I can contact her in business hours". Which I did - left a message with her secretary - I am still waiting for her call. Called 2 more times - no answer. The matter was reported to the Hospital Management via the Matron on Call, Sr. Carol: still waiting for THEM to call me back. Laid a complaint on Medi-Clinic's website - what a joke, STILL no call... I am a doctor myself, who just so happens to refer lots of patients to Mediclinic Midstream - no more. Furthermore my mother was MISMANAGED in their ICU to such a point that I moved her to Netcare Unita's, before she died at Midstream.
