I booked a boudoir shoot with Mia Elle and the entire experience was deeply disappointing and unprofessional. The location was changed last-minute with no apology or explanation, and when I arrived the atmosphere was tense and uncomfortable. Despite their advertising promising a high-end, empowering boudoir experience, the photographer (Sara) used a smartphone to take photos — no professional camera, no lighting setup, nothing that reflects the price they charge. The entire interaction felt transactional and insincere, like the focus was on extracting payment rather than creating a safe or supportive environment. What disturbed me most was overhearing how Sara spoke about her own team and previous clients — dismissive, mocking, and extremely unkind. It completely contradicted the “women empowerment” messaging they use to market themselves. The branding is polished, but behind the scenes it felt like manipulation and performative feminism used as a sales tactic. I left feeling uncomfortable, misled, and honestly quite sad that something advertised as empowering was handled with so little care and respect. I would not return, and I would strongly advise others to look elsewhere for a truly professional and supportive boudoir experience. Mia elle is not boudoir photography, its not women empowerment, its clearly a platform for Sara to boost her own ego and trick clients out of money so she can go on one of her 5 yearly trips to Bali or wherever. Mia elle is just a bunch of morbidly obese women desperately clinging to youth and beauty they never had in the first place. would not recommend.

Sarah is completely unprofessional. All her pics are taken on a phone and they come out so bad. The turnaround time is so long for poor quality. The business is badly run!! It's supposed to be focused on women empowerment but leaves you feeling underwhelmed and upset. I can't even show anyone these pics

My experience with this business has been deeply disappointing, and I feel compelled to share my story so others know what they might be walking into. Despite all the glossy social media posts and the photographer boasting about features in publications like New York Weekly Magazine, the actual client experience tells a very different story. To start, on the day of my shoot, the photographer arrived nearly an hour late — not because of traffic or an emergency, but because her assistant failed to inform her that the shoot was happening at Newlands Forest, not the Gordon’s Bay studio. This wasn’t just inconvenient — it set a stressful tone for the entire session. I was told I’d receive my edited photos in 12 weeks. We’re now at week 14 and I’ve heard nothing. I’m still waiting — without clear communication — and I’m still owed a 2-hour shoot. While I was told the photographer had been ill (which I fully understand and sympathize with), the complete lack of proactive communication is unacceptable. Out of frustration, I started looking into other reviews — and honestly, I wish I’d done that earlier. The same issues repeat again and again: People waiting months for their photos with no updates Packages not being delivered in full (missing champagne, missing hair appointments, far fewer photos than promised) Venues being changed last minute, sometimes to someone’s personal home Cold, cliquey energy on shoot days Manipulative pricing — like being told you'll get 30 photos, but then being asked to pay R200 per photo after already paying for the shoot Promises of refunds that never materialize One reviewer even shared being told, “You’re the first to ask, so you’ll be the last to receive,” just for politely inquiring about their photo timeline. That says everything you need to know. This business claims to be about empowering women, but based on my experience and the many reviews I’ve now seen, it feels like a polished front for a chaotic and money-driven operation. These ladies are not professional. They are not transparent. And sadly, they are not what they claim to be. If you’re thinking about booking with them, do your research, read real reviews, and ask for everything in writing. Don’t let the glamorous branding fool you — the reality is far less inspiring.

Super disappointed with this place. My wife booked a shoot for 30 photos and holy hell these people are super unprofessional. 1 - it was legit someone's house and not a studio or anything. 2 - we've already been waiting 9 weeks for the photos - we waited 3 just for 2 sample photos. 3-THEY COMPLETELY FORGOT THAT SHE BOOKED A HAIR APPOINTMENT AS PART OF THE PACKAGE and did absolutely nothing to compensate for the money she'd already paid, there was also supposed to be champagne included in the package which was nowhere to be seen. 4-today they sent her a total of 18 photos (watermarked) , saying she must choose a few for as part of her package and the rest she will have to buy at 200 PER PHOTO. BUT SHE PAID FOR A PHOTO SHOOT OF 30 PHOTOS.

I have never been more disappointed by a group of women in my life. A brand they claim to use to empower women, this is all a lie and just a money making scheme. Would never recommend this business to anyone!

I had a shoot with Mia Elle, in the morning of the shoot, the venue was changed to someone's complex, as if venue was never booked. When I walked in everyone at the shoot was very cliquey- hardly spoke to me, didn't talk me up as some reviews suggest, The photos take 6-8 weeks to complete, and I asked on the Whatsapp group, at 6 weeks and got the response, You're the first to ask, so you'll be the last to receive. I recommended them to another friend, who went for a shoot too, and got a link for her photos, clicked download, and it automatically downloaded all photos, then was told to pay for all of them as the shoot only allows 5 pics. They are full of stories, they cancel shoots, change venues, always a different angle and if you are not in the inner circle, they don't even act if you are there.

I absolutely loved my shoot! I have done a total of 3 mini shoots now and I am hooked. This is probably the most empowering thing any woman can do. No one looks at you funny, no one judges you for the way you look.... If anything, you are made to feel like a million bucks in front of that lense! What I love most about these ladies is that they build you up from the time you arrive. And if you have a theme for a personal shoot, they'll do their best to bring your idea to life.

Sarah is absolutely amazing. We held an auction for people to win a shoot at Rumble and Hum tattoo parlour and even after a some miscommunication, she came through and delivered superbly! I'm booking my own shoot soon because just seeing this woman work was an experience! The ladies were amazing and the terrible weather didnt even get them down. Thank you so much Mia Elle for the fantastic day!
