We sourced Sabelo Mkabela to do BICs in our home. At first he comes across as someone charming and professional but don’t be fooled because that’s nothing close to the truth. After 75% completion and about 80% of payment he disappeared for a while (wasn’t taking my calls, not responding to my messages for over a month). He came back to me, asked me to pre-approve something I already had approved, promised to fit the BICs on a particular day but he yet again disappeared on the day of the set appointment. Through Twitter I learnt that he has done this multiple times and he still continues to run off with his clients funds instead of doing what he is contractually bound to do.

Sabelo Mkabela, founder of Mkabela Real Estate has been paid over 75% deposit but has not returned to finish his job, he chooses to rather disappear with our money instead of doing what he is paid for. He is filled with empty promises and is well known for Doug this to a large population of people. Thread carefully around him if you read this.

This has been the worst experience ever. I got in touch with the owner Sabelo Mkabela to install a kitchen island, remove carpets and install wooden floors around the house. Firstly it took the company 6 months to install one island which he promised to do in 1 month, they kept on getting measurements wrong and forgetting what the initial specifications were. His team had to redo my floors 3 times after he had confirmed he can do flooring, this took a total of nine months... This included his team chipping my walls and doing shoddy work...the last time his employee came over to fix the skirting on the floor but ended up painting the walls in the offices, corridor and rooms. Sabelo and I agreed that I will get a professional company redo my flooring and he will pay for the extra material, labor and he will get my walls fixed. He paid for the labor, I bought the extra flooring material which he has not paid for and is ignoring my WhatsApps... He then said he will not pay for fixing my walls as he didn't give his employee the instruction to paint and its therefore not his problem... I really regret meeting Sabelo and ever using his services. Never again!!!

I would like to thank Sifiso and his team from Mkabela Real Estate as they did an amazing job with my bathroom. They went out of their way to help us find the bathroom fittings and gave us different options. They came with their ideas but always went we what we wanted. You tell them what you want and they make it work. The project was not done within time which was due to my wife and I changing a few things on the design and they had the patience to wait for us and take the new direction we were taking. They finished the project just over 6 months ago and everything is still intact. We haven't had to call them back for anything. We're still getting compliments on our bathroom 6 months later. I'm definitely using them again for my next project. Amazing job.

What was supposed to be a beautiful gift for my mother has become a seven month long - and counting - nightmarish ordeal. I chose this company among several others to renovate my mother's kitchen primarily because of social media posts which showed beautiful transformations. I thought this company would undoubtedly deliver the same level of product and service. I was wrong. Project delays and lack of communication The project manager, Sabelo Mkhabela said the project would take about two weeks to be completed. But two weeks became almost two months due to unnecessary delays such as wrong materials being bought because of inaccurate measurements, wrong colour cupboards being bought etc. The project manager is a terrible communicator. He often assumed what my mother and I wanted rather than ask or listen to what we had to say. From the onset, he assumed the kind of kitchen that my mother wanted. He did not consult us about specifics pertaining to the kitchen construction beyond the layout. When we pointed this out, he said it was too late to change anything because he had already purchased the materials i.e cupboards. Mkhabela sub-contracts artisans to construct the kitchen. They would often arrive after 10am to work on the kitchen. In one instance, they arrived at 2pm. At this point I wanted to pull out of the project and find another company. But I had already paid a hefty deposit of more than 50% of the total cost of the project-which was at his insistence. In hindsight and at the time, I regret this. Unprofessional I often felt and still feel like my mother and I were disrespected and treated with disdain because we: 1. Live in a township and 2. Because we are women. On the first point : I do not know how other customers have been treated whether those in suburbia or other regions. I can only speak to my experience. But I often felt like this particular project was a burden because of the distance Mkhabela and his workers had to travel to reach our house. Worker’s lateness was blamed on the distance, current delays in fixing parts of the kitchen that are still not functional, are in part blamed on distance. If this is the case, why did Mkhabela choose to take on this project? On the second point: It’s hard to explain misogyny in the same way that one would find it hard to explain racism. It’s nuanced. It’s in intangible behaviour that leaves you feeling small and comments that you know would never have been made to a man. I often felt undermined and still do. Overall review Some parts of the kitchen were not fitted in properly. A draw and cupboard do not close properly. It has taken more than a month to have this repaired (project was completed in September 2020, it is now March 2021). I strongly urge other consumers to not work with this company. Mkhabela is unprofessional. He is arrogant. His workmanship is sloppy and unprofessional. If I had known what I know now, I would have definitely chosen to work with a different company. It is companies like this that give black businesses a bad reputation.

An agreement was entered between our company and Mkablea Real Estates where they were contracted to do ceiling, drywalling, painting and carpentry for an office renovation in Randburg. 50% deposit payment was made to them where they subsequently contracted ANOTHER company to do all of the drywalling, ceiling and painting work. That company finished well ahead of schedule and the remainder of the work outstanding was carpentry - office furniture, which Mkabela Real Estates was responsible for.

They then asked that we pay the rest of the money - something didn't feel right so instead of paying the balance, I paid 40% in hopes that it would incentivise them to complete the job.

Payment was made 20 April with the assurance that the material was going to be purchased and work will commence. It is now 20 June (2 months later) and we still don't have final office furniture.

This lack of professionalism and blatant disreguard for our partnership, the work promised to us and payment made is uncappetable.

They have also dodged phone calls and neglected to respond to messages asking for answers on when the outstanding furniture will be delivered and installed...all they have done is come up with numerous exuses that don't result in any concrete resolutions.

This is an extremly unprofessional company!!
