A friend and I went there on Tuesday 28th January. We sat on the outside - iow the by the walkwall through the restaurants and mall. A gentleman sat down and lit a cigarette, we called the manager who was reluctant to deal with it. Awhile later 3 customers went to sit outside at the same time, with the original smoker and started smoking and one lit a cigar. We called for the manager via the waiter and she basically ignored our request to we went inside and expressed out unhappiness at this dis regard of us having our meal. We told the manager we would never enter their establishment again and honestly he sort of said sorry but it was not sincere and my no effort to try say to us to come again, or here have a coffee inside or anything. It is not an inexpensive restaurant and honestly cannot believe that they did not stop this in its tracks as it is an obvious violation and unfair to customers who do not smoke.

I recently attended a friend's 40th birthday celebration at Modern Tailors, and it was fantastic! The atmosphere was vibrant and inviting, the staff were attentive and friendly, ensuring everything ran smoothly. The food was delicious, showcasing a great variety of options that pleased everyone at the party, which was perfect as I was fasting at the time. Overall, Modern Tailors provided an exceptional experience, and I would highly recommend it for any event. It truly made my friend's 40th unforgettable!

On Friday afternoon (13th September 2024), I visited this restaurant along with 4 friends. Having heard good things about it from colleagues. The starters were acceptable. The pani-puri was good. The sheesh kebaab lacked any flavour profile whatsoever, and the onion bhajia was not even above average. Regardless, we proceeded to order our main meals. The lamb rogan josh tasted horrible, it was sweet and had unnecessary vegetables in the curry. How can you get a Rogan Josh wrong? The "Authentic Durban lamb curry", was everything but authentic. There was no potato. The curry itself was bland, and just loaded with chillies. The chicken breyani was appalling. The potatoes were green and inedible, and the chicken pieces overcooked. The rice itself in the breyani, lacked any flavour whatsoever. The seafood pot, literally just tasted like a seafood boil, there were no distinct flavors or aromas in the seafood pot. What kind of service and food is this? To have paid an average of R250 per a curry (WITH NO RICE/ROTI), and then to get lower than mediocre food at such an (advertised) "upmarket" restaurant is astonishing. To call this place an "Indian" restaurant, is farfetched. Furthermore, at the end of the meal, when requesting finger bowls, so that we can wash our hands, we were told that they don't do such things, and we need to use the bathroom. How is this possible, for an authentic Indian restaurant? At that point, I called for the manager, who didn't show up for almost 20 minutes, and only decided to waltz out once I got fed up and was leaving the establishment. Think twice before visiting this place.

My sons took me there for lunch on my birthday. We ordered chicken biriyani among other dishes. Everyone who ate the chicken biriyani (4 of us) got really sick a few hours later - vomiting, horrendous cramps and diarrhoea. My youngest son who did not eat the biriyani was fine. Called the restaurant a few times but they were no help and actually dismissed our complaint saying “well no one else got sick”. It took us almost a week to recover and my Doctor confirmed it was food poisoning. Would not recommend this place to anyone. Not only is it over priced and the food awful but you could get sick.

It was my birthday on Sunday and my sons took me and a friend to a restaurant called Modern Tailors where we ordered a few items to share. Among those was a Chicken Biriyani. The food was average. When we got home late afternoon I started to feel nauseous and had a headache. Thought it was just indigestion. A few hours later I began to experience the most horrendous and painful stomach cramps culminating in diarrhoea and vomiting. This was excruciating and continued unabated for hours right through to Monday evening. I reached out to my sons and friends and they all reported the same symptoms except for my younger son. By a process of elimination we determined that he was the only one who had not eaten the chicken biriyani. The doctor confirmed that it was food poisoning. Since then have been talking to a ‘Jessica’ at the restaurant who says she is the head chef who has not been very helpful. I have decided to report the incident to the Health Department as I really would not want anyone to go through the pain and suffering that we did. Thank you Modern Tailors for ruining my birthday but also for your horrible customer service.
