Review of Nylstroom Lodge (22-27 September 2024) We recently stayed at Nylstroom Lodge as part of a group booking. As per our agreement, the lodge was to provide the children with three meals a day: breakfast, a packed lunch, and dinner. Unfortunately, the state of the lodge was far from acceptable. The cleanliness and hygiene were shockingly poor. We found dirty dishes in the cupboards, the toilets were unclean with missing seats, and the mattresses were so worn that you could feel the springs. Two beds even broke during our stay, and several doors either didn’t close properly or couldn’t be locked, raising serious safety concerns. Additionally, there was no visible security presence, and some of the boys were placed in rooms with only double beds. The reception staff were unfriendly, which made matters worse. The reception area is part of the house where the owners reside, and the condition of the space was filthy. To our surprise, they also had a tame warthog living in the house where food is prepared. On the first evening, chicken stew with rice was served for dinner. Some of the children found chicken feet, toenails, and intestines in their food, which was very distressing.

The one and only Nylstroom lodge-the best ever.
What can I say, stars in my eyes and less grief in my heart, I have had the best experience by far at Nylstroom Lodge, I am still at the lodge as my booking ends on Friday, which is when I need to leave, but I really don't want to, The lodge is very rustic, the linen is new and still crisp with the smell of stay soft, the chalets are clean and I could even start my own little braai right outside my door, instead of walking to the nearest braai area, I even played putt putt, at my age. I have suffered a great loss of which the owners know about as I have been coming to the lodge for nearly 14 years with my husband, this was the first year without him, the staff went out of their way, over and above, all the things that they know I liked from past experiences, they had put in my chalet, a box of cappuccino, a few sweets, clean towels as I love use theirs, Simone always does her fancy designs for us, now it is just for me, I thank you so much, Johan you came and spoke to me for a long time, and then you just listened when I needed to speak, lol when I needed to cry you called Simone, and we cried together, I know she cried about her things, but I also know that she cried a bit for my late husband, but she cried a lot because she kept repeating Drogo will help him find his way, and she wished she could click her fingers and take away my pain, These people, Damein included, who brought breakfast to me every morning, with a fresh flower or leaf anything he could find, and when I told him it was not necessary to spoil me so much, that child or young man now, said to me, but it is necessary, because I need to show you the beauty still left on earth even though it does not feel like it now, but you will soon see it, my favorite times were shower time, the water was so hot the first night, my own fault, as I got myself in a tizz with my mind all over the place, I has turning both taps and just generally confused, I eventually got it right and the water was beautiful, to come to a place in the bush veld, is such a blessing, to see the animals, no I don't care about *** poo, as Simone always says, I am trying to potty train them, but they just wont listen, I can sense the stress the whole team is under, I do not understand why, they have worked very hard, as this lodge looks completely different, the shower heads and taps have been replaced, the tiles, all from wear and tear, which is going to happen when you have bookings of up to 183 people. But for me, this place is my place, I will never go anywhere else, the price you pay for the service you get is unbelievable, to some it might seem a lot but to others it honestly isn't expensive at all, thank you to you both Johan and Simone, oh sorry Damein, thank you to you as well, my meals are delish, keep them coming lad, you are getting there, I can see that you learn a lot from Johan and your mom, having a great time here, I am planning on going on a walk through their hiking trails, always so much to see and then a lovely swim and I will take the rest of the day as it comes, I know Simone will be spending some time with me soon as well, she has a lot of work in the office, so sometimes they make a space for me and I go and work in my little corner with her, its a laugh a minute. I can not thank you enough.

Worst ever
Worst experience ever. The place is everything except what the photos shows. The rooms are filthy and the bathrooms discussing. The reception is extremely unfriendly. The warthog walking around in the kitchen was more approachable than the people. The food that was prepared was supposed to be chicken stew, but was more chicken feet and intestines than meat. Will never ever recommend this place to anyone. Can't think that a place like this exists.

Amazing
The best ever, the staff are very friendly, and even though at the moment they are renovating the lodge, and cant really have people stay over because of the building rubble, they go out of their way to help you if you are in a jam. I will be staying there for every holiday from now on. Awesome.

Amazing
The best ever, the staff are very friendly, and even though at the moment they are renovating the lodge, and cant really have people stay over because of the building rubble, they go out of their way to help you if you are in a jam. I will be staying there for every holiday from now on. Awesome.
