SCAM ALERT: Beware of repeat offender scammer Taun Bewsher, owner of Africranks! Please beware of Taun Kirby Bewsher aka “The notorious wood fetcher”, affiliated with Adventure Logistics Cycling Tours, Adventure Cycling tours, Authentic Adventures, ADVLOG (PTY) LTD and now AFRICRANKS. The ‘Taun’ in the side of the cycling, 4x4 and outdoor adventure community has struck again… (and again… and again). We booked a MTB cycling trip to the Hessequa/Overberg region with Taun Bewsher of Adventure Logistics Cycling Tours that was meant to take place from 2-8 Sept 2021. Taun Bewsher, made all the right noises; speedily answering any queries, sending a packing list, sharing videos/blogs of previous trips, and sending an itinerary. Paid in full, flights booked, leave put in. We contacted Taun on 26 Aug to confirm our pick up, only to receive an apologetic email in reply with a notice of voluntary liquidation attached. “Sorry”. No trip. No refund. Enjoy your life. It seems Taun Bewsher is much better at saying “sorry” than he is at running cycling or 4x4 adventure tours. As it turns out he has said sorry many times before, to many different tour groups as far back as 2015… and possibly even before then. According to a post on 4x4ag.co.za, in 2015, trading as “Authentic Adventures”, Taun Bewsher took a group of people on a 4x4 trip. Very early on in the trip he stepped out to fetch wood and never returned - sending only a message with the word “Sorry”. They continued on the trip only to find he had not made the bookings or arrangements. There was a big hoohah and allegedly, eventually, the money was refunded. We currently know of at least 40 people who have been affected (this time), but don’t just take our word for it. Please peruse this list of complaints and bad reviews that a Google search of his name provides: 21 August 2021 - Post on Facebook about a cancelled trip: https://www.facebook.com/groups/134361270058168/posts/1903107483183529 5 July 2021 – A HelloPeter complaint about cancelled trip: https://www.hellopeter.com/adventure-logistics-cycles 11 June 2021 – A post seeking other victims of fraud to come forward: https://forum.bikehub.co.za/topic/189109-fraud-charges-against-%E2%80%9Ccycle-tour-operator%E2%80%9D/#comments 3 Jan 2021 – A warning on 4x4ag forum: https://www.4x4ag.co.za/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1155 30 Dec 2021 – A warning on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/anthony.forgey.184/posts/563164774659053 30 Dec 2020 – A warning on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wendy.nieuwoudt.9/posts/10157448823485566 30 December 2020 – A thread on BikeHub: https://forum.bikehub.co.za/topic/187035-night-ride-and-dinner-21-october/page/2/ 10 May 2015 – The notorious wood fetcher (A 37-page thread about the incident in 2015): https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/showthread.php/217922-Dropped-badly-by-Authentic-Adventures 9 April 2015 - Authentic Adventures ceases to be (A thread by Taun playing the world tiniest violin): https://www.4x4community.co.za/forum/showthread.php/217881-Authentic-Adventures-ceases-to-be Feel free to DM me for a direct chat and please feel free to share widely to help keep our community safe. Disclaimer: I’m sure this oke has his own stuff and I explicitly do not wish him any harm. I’m posting this because I don’t want someone else ending up in the same trap as we did. This oke has been up to his tricks since 2015, how long is he still going to go on before he is stopped?
Executive summary: Wendy factory sells average Wendy’s but their aftersales service leaves much to be desired. Try them at your own risk. After 6 months of waiting for an issue to be resolved by Wendy Factory it was ‘shoot’ or get off the pot time today. Turns out Wendy Factory sure knows how to ‘shoot’ the bed. Wood warps.. we get it. It’s a natural material and when you use wet wood in your wendy, it’s only natural that over time it may warp as it dries. In October 2021, two weeks after we signed off on the installation of our wendy this happened to us. The double doors warped to the point of not being able to close. I contact wendy factory and asked if this could be rectified. After painfully slow correspondence they eventually gave a non-committal answer that they don’t know why the doors warped so couldn’t cover it under their warrantee. I said, ok fine. I understand. I’ll pay for the repair. When can you come fix it? They said, we’ll let you know… And after 6 months of ‘don’t call us, we’ll call you’. I was still waiting for them to come repair it. I was diligent and polite, following up during the period, asking when they will condescend to assist me. And the excuses and fobbing off just kept coming. “We’ll come when our big projects are done. We are suuuuper busy right now. The lady that was dealing with your issue went on maternity leave. We are understaffed. We receive hundreds of WhatsApp’s a day, how can we possibly be expected to respond to all of them?!“ So today I put my foot down. Either come fix it, or tell me you can’t. And boy did they not take that boundary well. After receiving some aggressive choice whatsapp messages from them - I eventually decided to cut my losses, close this chapter of my life, give up trying to sort this out with them directly and just write a public review. You may ask... "How are they still in business if they treat their customers like this?" The honest answer, they don't treat all their customers like this. They choose the ones that are important to them and deprioritise the ones that aren't. Repairing the warped door of our shed is obviously not as important as all their many, many other customers and important ‘large jobs’. There is something in there about taking pride in your workmanship, no matter how big or small the job. Well, you know what they say… judge a person's character by how they treat those that cannot do anything for them. Bet Wendy Factory are also the type of people who are rude to waiters. After our bizarre whatsapp exchange today I left them with this nugget of wisdom, thanks to my autocorrect, “Karma is a birch!" :D. Let's hope this birch drops a branch of good manners that bonks some sense into them.

<p>Masego Mildred Khulumula was great. Lovely lady, friendly and helpful. </p> <p> </p> <p> </p>
<p>Absolutely no help from call centre when trying to find out why OPT for one time payments from internet banking isn't working. </p> <p> </p> <p>Agent asked me 3 verification questions, then told me I got them wrong and that she couldn't help me. "You have to go to an ATM to reset your OTP now". </p> <p> </p> <p>What the whattting what? Of course it's my account. I'm not a fraudster! I don't know where they got the "so called correct" answers to those verification questions? But they certainly aren't correct.</p> <p> </p> <p>All I want to do is make a one time payment. Now I have to leave work to go drive around town to find an ATM becasue your OTP service doesn't work and your call centre agent's can't help me. </p> <p> </p> <p>Disgusted. </p>
