Cell C must be amongst the most useless service providers on the planet. I have a very low monthly cost contract which only gives me 30 minutes per month, but frankly that's about enough most months as I do not make calls very often, mostly use it for WhatsApp call, and receive calls from other people. However, I recently had to make a call to an 0862 number - telkom conference call - and in advance of this, tried to find out what Cell C would charge for this call. Well it seems impossible to find this information on their website so I registered a query. Eventually, and after I'd actually used the phone to make the call, they came back with "Premium rated calls or special numbers do not have a fixed price rate, they differ from one service provider to another simply because there are third party charges i.e. if you were calling your bank, there would be charges from your bank, interconnect fees, Telkom fees which make up the billing for that specific number. " This must be the most nonsensical explication I've ever heard ! I really do wonder if this company actually knows what it's doing.
I just stopped by the branch in Green Point and bought an almond croissant (as Woolies had sold out) and also a loaf of rye bread. The croissant was R37 ! Serves me right for not asking first. This must be the biggest rip off in Cape Town, certainly in terms of viennoiserie. Needless to say I shall not be honouring them with my custom again. The croissant was middling - frankly Woolies are better at 1/3rd of the price. The rye bread was fine but Pick n Pay's is equally good and its half the price. Back to Woolies and P n P for me in the future.
I was convinced that I had a problem with the cooling system in my 1998 Rxi, so took it in last week for them to have a look at. They checked everything out and found that there was no problem at all with the cooling system. I don't know how long this process took but there was no charge and I was very grateful for their overall service and professionalism. My car has been serviced there for many years and I've always had a good experience.
I selected Rocketnet on the basis of cost. Other ISPs are more expensive on a monthly basis, although Rocketnet do have a R500 installation charge. I called them up once the Vumatel line was up and running - this was the Tuesday afternoon - and in a combination of phone calls and online chat, arranged to have the router delivered on the Thursday. The router duly arrived, and after a couple of calls and online chats I was up and running with no major issues apart from a couple of small administrative details. This was last week and thus far the service is very good. I only have the basic 4/1 package and I am consistently getting slightly better than 4 mbps on download. Its certainly adequate for my needs. So far so good, Rocketnet !
Called Vumatel on the Friday, they sent their installation team around the following Tuesday. Good service. They were prompt and efficient and didn't make too much mess ! They checked the line and everything was up and running in just over 1 hour.
Upon returning home after a long break overseas, the phone was not working - at all. I called 10210 and explained the problem and after the usual "oh well, if its not our side that's the problem then there's a charge of 300-odd Rand", I asked them to call round. They came within 48 hours, and repaired the problem very quickly and effectively and thus far everything is fine. Well done to Telkom on this occasion.
