Yet again, the Government Printing Works (GPW) is unable to supply the green paper required for the NATIS system to function properly. They give new meaning to the terms incompetence and ineptitude, and remind one of the age-old expression: "Not even a donkey falls into the same hole twice..." The question that remains is how the GPW manages to so steadfastly remain irretrievably off the scale of incompetence - is it just plain and pure ineptitude, or could it be healthy doses of arrogance and indifference sustaining their achievement? "Mampara of the week/month/year/decade...?"
DHL is probably the worst courier service I have had the misfortune to encounter thus far in my life. A parcel of around 1kg I ordered from the USA took 13 days to cross the Atlantic Ocean to RSA, and it has now been sitting with DHL South Africa for another 15 days. It takes them longer to courier it from Johannesburg to Cape Town than from the USA to RSA. This is the tracking number if anyone is interested in verifying the tracking: GM545334116006987426 Good show, DHL - no wonder the Stormers are struggling...
I am reviewing the Gardens Centre branch of Pick 'n Pay, located in Gardens Centre, Oranjezicht, Cape Town. I used to buy from them 3 to 4 times a week - I now only use them when I can't find an item at Woolworths, located in the same centre. This means I pay a premium for my groceries, but I gladly do it in order to avoid the surly staff, the worst cash register service I have ever experienced, and a store manager more intent on defending and denying the appalling service than fixing it. The best thing that could happen to Gardens Centre would be for Pick 'n Pay to be replaced by Checkers - let's keep hoping!
It is difficult to imagine a car rental company worse than Dollar Thrifty Car Rental South Africa. While the frontline staff tries their best to project an air of professionalism, it is the back-office workings that fail them miserably. On a recent business trip to Johannesburg, my experience was more or less as follows: 1. Booking online went smoothly. 2. Collecting the car at OR Tambo - a nightmare of incompetence. 3. Extending the rental period - it was next to impossible to reach them via telephone so I suggested they call me to extend. This was fine until an employee forgot to log the extended period - the very next day I received a thinly veiled threat of penalties and whatnot as the vehicle was now overdue. 4. Changing to a different vehicle at OR Tambo - another nightmare of incompetence - the system showed no pick-ups available, yet there were at least two parked in the lot. 5. Obtaining tax invoices - a nightmare of incompetence - from waiting endless periods of time on the telephone to be summarily cut off after waiting the better part of half an hour... When employees start telling you they are looking for opportunities elsewhere and this during the pandemic, you know there is something seriously wrong with a company. To their credit, they prove the existence of a benevolent force - it is only through divine intervention they still survive as a business.
If you are using Outdoor Warehouse Online Sales, be prepared for a lengthy wait. I ordered an outdoor waistcoat and received confirmation of my order. After 7 days of absolutely no communication nor delivery, I called customer service. As a result of my call, my order has now been prioritized and I will receive it, hopefully, 10 days after ordering it. You may suspect I live in Timbaktu, but I don't - try Cape Town. Takealot has set an industry standard, and Outdoor Warehouse had better take note of it if they don't want to be known as a "wannabee" in E-commerce. If you want to run with the big dogs...
A most enjoyable urban nursery in the heart of Gardens, Cape Town. Rewarding selection of plants, friendly and helpful staff (Andreas and all the others), and super professional delivery - quick, and the plant repotted and in excellent shape. A joy to spend ones hard-earned money there.
This review concerns Pick 'n Pay in Gardens Centre, Oranjezicht, Cape Town. Pretty much the same as most other Pick 'n Pays, this one's store manager - Abongile - suffers from a lack of customer orientation. I approached him about the utterly poor selection of spices they had on their shelves, as well as a total lack of Snowflake premixed flour combinations for ****ins, scones, etc. He took down a list and that was the last of his good intentions. When two weeks later I enquired, he had not followed up on his request. This in spite of almost daily deliveries to the store - I see them from my apartment window. When I asked him whether he would be happy with the service if he were in my shoes, he said "No, not at all". What am I missing?
