Be very careful with Mia & Leah. The story on their website seems fabricated, and their claim of being based in Cape Town is misleading because they do not have a valid South African telephone number. The real problem started when I needed to contact them. I used every method available—their website form and the checkout contact number—but received zero response. A legitimate business, especially one claiming to be local, should be reachable. This company is not what it pretends to be. Stay away.
I purchased a USWE Outlander Prohydration Backpack (2L) from BikeInn and received confirmation on 5 February 2025 that my order was on its way. Nearly two months later, the event for which I bought it has already passed, and my order still hasn’t arrived. Despite multiple attempts to contact BikeInn to inquire about the status of my order, my efforts have been unsuccessful. If I had known about these issues beforehand, I would never have purchased this item from BikeInn.
I bought a Garmin 255 smar****ch from ITWorkup. Their price was the best that I could find in SA and was thinking is this too good to be true?! Did some homework and found enough evidence to purchase from them. Product arrived as promised and will definitely use them again in the future.
In bought my Garmin Forerunner 45S in 2022 and I've been happy with its performance. The device stopped working - it seems that the battery died. Getting technical support from Garmin has been impossible - I've both tried their telephone line and email (support@garmin.co.za) but no answer or response.
Discovery Vitality: you make me feel cheated I've been taking my fitness and health more seriously over the last couple of years. Havind had a Discovery policy for more than 15 years, I decided to attempt to use the Vitality aspect of my policy - great was my frustration and disappointment. My issues with Discovery Vitality revolve around: 1. The App indicate that I qualify for a R4000 discount on a fitness device (I'm on gold status) - big was my disappointment when the Sportmans Warehouse cashier tells me I only qualify for R1200 discount (I phoned him beforehand and he warned me that the R4000 discount never happens). 2. The type of fitness device: Only expensive Garmin, Suunto, Polar with their heart rate accessories qualify. I use a cheaper, but functionally superior Lezyne MegaXL device. Readings on my Lezyne, whose battery life goes up to 30 hours doesn't qualify - no, I have to use my Suunto (battery life of 8 hours) if I want to earn points. 3. The syncing of activities between my Suunto App and Discovery Vitality App is continuously out of sync. I've shared my Strava monthly summary with the Discovery Helpline but the person insisted on getting a log from Suunto (since Suunto has discontinued Movescount a monthly log is not an option anymore, meaning I must go and copy individual sessions and paste it in a timeline. Sorry Vitality, no more of your behavioural banking.
I want to downgrade my Sage Accounting package to single user. On Sage's registration page downgrading is not an option so I resorted to emailing Support requesting support a downgrade. Three days and three emails later, I've received nothing but a reference number (IR6408711) and a promise of assistance. Today I received an email reminding me: Your Accounting subscription expires today.
I need archived bank statements from ABSA (cheque, two savings accounts and a credit card) to complete my tax return. Initially I tried to download it but got the message "No statements found for the selected search criteria". So off to the branch I went. After queueing for half an hour the helpful bank official warned me that a year's bank statements will be R720 (*R60 / month) per account - the four accounts will be R2880 for the financial year! The hefty cost made me try the online option again - this time I was able to download archived statements for both saving accounts but the cheque and credit card accounts continued giving the "No statements found for the selected search criteria". Highly frustrating and reminded me of a Moneyweb talk about "ABSA offering the best share value of the South African banks because there's so much room for improvement".
