Disappointed doesn’t even cut it with Discovery - Bank and Vitality. I’ve been a loyal customer since 2012-13 and have been a champion for this company recommending them to everyone but now I see they now just value profits and saving tiny costs at the expense of customers. I had the most frustrating experience with them trying to activate an Apple Watch benefit that I was entitled to. I’ve probably activated 3 in the past and was wholly sold on the rewards and staying healthy. I’ve had life insurance since 2014, then moved onto car insurance, and medical aid and when Bank was set up I migrated with ease. This time round I tried to activate the benefit having spent about R13k on a holiday accommodation- the transaction can be seen on my statement as 28 Feb and Discovery Bank concede that the transaction was done on the 28th so it qualifies as spend but their back systems have the payment go out in the early hours of 1 March because of some system issue they have. My statement however remains correct and the transaction and interest treated as for 28 Feb. Anyways after a week and about 150mins on the phone with different people that claimed to help but ultimately were not interested (Leroy and Obakeng being the exception) they decided they could not be bothered to resolve the matter even though it was their problem. I told them to close my transactional account given how frustrating this whole experience was and they pretty much just said they couldn’t care less. Honestly for a benefit that doesn’t cost them anything but rather saves them payouts on health in the long run I’m so disgusted. What’s the point of having us sign up to Vitality and try and encourage certain behaviours when at the end of it you want to withhold on paying out on those benefits? I suppose they’re now too big and don’t care about clients - they’ll lose R500 pm from the bank account premium, R1200 pm on my life insurance and R7850 on my medical aid. That’s all in one month - pretty much the price of the watch itself upfront not to mention that they’d probably still make more money from me for the watch if I didn’t meet my goals. Free advice - stay with your bank / insurer. These guys can’t be bothered with customer service anymore.

Called these guys earlier today and asked them for an estimate for a 1/4 oz Proof Edition Krugerrand. The lady on the phone said would probably be somewhere between R9k and R10k and she made an appointment for me to get an evaluation. I then called around and made a few more enquiries and found that the Proof Coins were at R10k so in line with what she said. When I went to get the evaluation one of the ladies started telling me that she hopes I didn’t look around online for prices because those prices are usually not right and then proceeded to tell me that the price for today actually hadn’t been updated so if I have a figure from today it’s probably wrong (totes odd). Anyhow this lovely lady then came back to me trying to tell me the price of an ounce and stories to get me to this obviously very low value she was about to give me (you can always smell a hustle from miles away). So I kindly asked to just give me her evaluation and she said that she could give me R2k for the coin. An absolute joke! Not sure if she thought I really needed the money or what this hustle was but I just asked for my coin back and told her I had a much better price elsewhere where they willing to give me R10k. She then told me that it wasn’t likely they would pay that and then started telling me said establishment only pays in 3 weeks as if R10k in 3weeks equals R2k today. When I told her I wasn’t desperate or in a rush she started telling me all about capital gains tax effect as if I needed tax advice 😂. Long story short I think these guys are proper hustlers and if you really don’t need the money don’t go to them. Also do some research before hand. Will go a long way.
You cannot contact them after making payment. Have an urgent change that needs to be made 48hours before flight and no one is answering the phone. Been on hold on 4 separate occasions for more than 20 mins each and the call drops every time. The contact form doesn't get responded to and the chat box is a scam as it just refers you to the call centre again. Honestly just book directly with airline this layer is completely unnecessary. You will lose a whole flight trying to make a booking change.
On 11 Nov I sent them my information to update my profile from passport to ID. I hear nothing back for weeks. I call 2 Dec and a nice lady says the merge has been done centrally and she will update it on Insure side and it should take 12 hours and she will call me back the next day. She never calls back. I call today 9 Dec to follow up and query what’s happening with my vitality drive - which apparently had been fixed after a YEAR of recording trips but not syncing to their site (rant for another time) and find out that apparently my profile was merged but the ID number they quote me is 12 digits. You want to tell me that your systems aren’t even programmed to pick up that an ID field has 12 digits???!!! This is just too much.
Absolute nightmare!!! Called on 28 October asking they merge my profile from my passport to my ID number. Sent my doc and got my reference number but no response in 2-3 days. Every now and then a banker calls me to respond to my query of joining the bank and I respond that I’m already a client and just need the profile merged. Aaarrghh if it’s not a new sale they can’t help you. It’s now 9 Dec and I’ve been following up pretty much every week for a month and still nothing. Absolute nonsense how it can take 6 weeks to update a profile. And once again the consultant has gone to escalate and investigate and will call back.. heard that about a hundred times this year from the overall Discovery company. Companies truly shouldn’t scale up if they don’t have operational capacity for it.
Great wine selections but my gosh the worst delivery service ever! They’ve fooled me twice now. First time I figured okay makes sense with lockdown and this time I’m over it. Support / Ziyanda sounds super sweet and apologetic but it’s all a scam. I ordered wine on the 19th Aug and still hasn’t arrived. Received an email giving me a tracking number saying the wine had been dispatched on the 31st yet two days later still not arrived. Never using them again because you will not get your wine especially if you’re buying bulk for specific events. Be warned!
This is in all honesty the most efficient service and platform I’ve ever encountered. Got a new cellphone and needed to get it insured. Naked has single item insurance so you don’t need to get the full household contents cover which you’re usually forced into by other insurers. The app is so easy to use. Literally just 3 steps: selecting what you want to insure and the value; describing the item and then taking pics of the item as well as serial numbers or invoices. Cover is immediate and all done on the app. Never been more impressed! Keep up the excellent work!!
