I have had the worst experience with standard bank lately. I have called the international payments dept, and no one answers the calls. I have emailed and only received automated responses saying Refilwe Moepye is attending to my request but no one has communicated anything to me. I recently relocated to New Zealand and I paid rent and deposit through International payments on the banking app. I did this a week ago and received an email to confirm initiation of the transaction. The estate agent let me move in anticipating the funds to be in their account in 2 days. It's been a week now and the funds are still on my account and no one has bothered to respond toy communication attempts. I'm at the verge of being kicked out, with an 11yo child, in a foreign land, all thanks to standard bank.
I have never once defaulted on my payments, or paid late. Payments are due on the first of each month and I usually pay by the 27th, a few days before due date. And yet for the past 2 months, I get an average of 5 calls per day from homechoice, thanking me for the payment and asking me when my next payment will be. These calls start around the 10th of each month and I get them every single day. 5 calls a day!!! I hate these calls and I will never recommend homechoice to anyone. Rather buy anywhere else, AVOID HOMECHOICE!!! They will harass you for simply being their customer.
If i could give a tenth of a start i would because a whole star is too much for them. On the first of Mrach a debit order went off my bank account for R1800 instead R478. I have been calling since and everytime they tell me we are logging the query with finance and nothing has happened. i receive sms saying query has been closed, and yet again when i call, no one can tell me anything, whether i will be getting my refund or when that will happen as MTN took more than they should have from my bank account. As a result of MTN taking almost 4 times what thy should have taken, i missed one debit order for my son's fees as i did not have sufficient funds in the account. I incurred R61 fees for a bounced debit order (fees for standard bank prestige account) and my son's fees is still owing. I have not been able to get any help whatsoever, regarding getting refunded my money so i can pay fees and have money for upkeep. but all the consultants i talk to do acknowledge that my account show an overpayment.
I recently had a wonderful experience with Faaizah Saber at BBNS Attoneys in Rondebosch. She was professional and yet so polite. I appreciate that she made me so comfortable while delivering her services in a very professional manner. She gave solid advise and i could see that she cared enough to go the extra mile just to make sure i understood all the legal terms and implications as well as consequences. I would recommend her and the firm as well, for any legal guidance regarding wills and property laws.

I lost my car keys and submitted a claim to SBIB. Refiloe R responded saying she needed a copy of my ID and i responded, sending it back to her, within 10 minutes. its been over 10 days now and i have not heard anything else from anyone. I eventually called and i was told there are some documents missing which they need. Though this had not been communicated to me, i sent the email and again, radio silence! Why is it that when they want us to sign up for insurance, they are super helpful and communicate a lot, but when it comes to claims, it's like extracting gold from a mine. The service is very bad and i will not be taking anymore insurance products with SBIB again!!! I still have not received my claim or received any communication at all! EK Magaya
