Every year on our Anniversary (5th Jan) my husband and I like to treat ourselves by trying out a new restaurant. And this year (our 41 year anniversary) we decided, after hearing great things, to try out Barristers Grill in Newlands. What a disappointment. To set things off, on arrival my husband was offered a warm beer. Not a good note to start out on. We were then advised that although it was Monday, the two for one Monday special was not applicable over the Christmas period. My husband ordered a starter of snails, which came with two small, stale rolls. The waiter apologised and explained that because it was such a hot day, the rolls had hardened. I ordered the Baked Camembert with sourdough bread starter. The bread I received was just plain white bread. The waiter assured me that it was sourdough, but I have eaten enough sourdough in my life to know it has a different taste and texture to this piece of ordinary, toasted Albany white bread. Sadly after this we decided to cut our losses and cancel our mains. We paid for our drinks, but they reversed the cost of the starters. Even so, the bill came to R168, for 2 beers and a Rock Shandy! We then left to continue our meal at an old faithful restaurant we know up the road. But a very disappointing venture to a restaurant we heard so much aboutI had been looking forward to a good meal all day. But sadly it just did not meet expectations
I took my washing machine in on about 10 November, and was told to pay R250 for them to look at the machine, to give us a quote on the work needed. Three days later we got the quote. They wanted nearly R2500 to do the repairs, and wanted us to pay up front, so that they could order the parts. Payment was made on 15/11/2023. Now, more than a month later, we still do not have our machine back, and now they say that there are more parts needed, that they didn't notice the 1st 3 days!!! A month later, we still have no machine and they have our money, and they are holding us ransom for more money before we can get our machine back! The service during the whole process has been shocking. Sherry would never returned our calls to find out on the progress of the work. When ever we refused to leave a message, she would give us the same story - "the parts are coming this afternoon".
They sent me a form to complete, but the email just bounces back? Tried to make contact on their web site, but have heard not a word from them? How on earth do you get to make contact with an actual person?
I was assured when I took my sewing machine in for repairs, that it would take 1 week to fix. It was finally ready to be collected 3 weeks later. I was quite excited to use it again, only to find that the light bulb was now missing. I phoned immediately to ask where it was, and was told "It probably broke in transit, and the repairer probably didn't have any spares". Well, I have moved house 5 times in the last 10 years, and it has never once broken "in transit". Makes you wonder how they treat it "in transit"? The next week, I took it in for them to put in a light bulb (I have never broken the light bulb before, so didn't know how to change it myself) Blow me down, if they didn't charge me for the light bulb that they broke?? The owner of the shop, was sitting there, and didn't bat an eye lid!! Didn't even look embarrassed?? I wonder if Singer does repairs to Elna machines? Definitely not going to try Elna ever again
I have been with 1st for Women since 2012, but now that I actually want to claim, they are suddenly useless. My husband was driving one of our cars, but he was not listed as the regular driver. Because he was not the regular driver, the excess is R12,000. Since the other driver was entirely to blame, I feel that we should not have to pay the excess (especially since I do not have that kind of money lying around) I have been told by the insurance, that we must pay the R12,000 up front, and only then will the legal team contact the drivers insurance. And they cannot guarantee that we will get the R12,000 back again? So if their legal team don't feel like doing their job, or are having a bad day, we will be down R12,000, for an accident that was not our fault! What is the point of having insurance then?
What a great service. If I had not done a search on the BenX site, I would never have known about all the unclaimed money owing to me. It feels like Christmas!
