Legacy Plumbing and Electrical provided a very poor service when asked to provide COC's for building services. They charged for a new main water shut-off valve which was not installed and for the gas compliance it was clear that the technician had a very poor knowledge of the relevant regulations (SANS10087-1 Ed 7). He insisted that he had to install certain fittings, purely on the basis of "that is what we always do"; notwithstanding the fact that he was shown a copy of the regulations, proving that these fittings were not required. A general observation with all COC companies - they assume that the owners are ******** of the regulations and quote for many items which are in fact not required - same with Legacy. Do not use them!
Discovery simply increased my premium for car, homeowner and household goods by 55% for 2025. I have had NO claims with Discovery. Upon querying this, I was told that they could reduce the increase to 40%, but that was it, take it or leave it. With a clean record for the past few years, I found this totally unacceptable and got exactly the same cover from Santam for a 16% SAVING on my previous Discovery policy!
Discovery contacted me to offer me short term insurance, which I took up because the price was fair. They also confirmed on the phone that I would qualify for their fuel rewards program even if I did not fill up at BP or Shell. When I then sent them my fuel receipts as they had instructed me to do, they reneged on the agreement and said I had to fill up at BP or Shell. When I called to query this, the first person I spoke to also confirmed that I would get rewards regardless. She then escalated the matter and came back and said no, I did not qualify. I asked them to retrieve the voice recording to confirm what I was told. In spite of numerous follow up attempts, there has been absolute radio silence from Discovery since then. Basically they **** to me (twice) and then went silent. Say no more.
Things ran smoothly while nothing happened, but once I started talking to Tracker about costs, upgrades, installation venues and contract cancellations, the wheels fell off completely. The right hand has no idea what the left hand is doing, communication is poor or non-existent and emails receive no response. Clear instructions in emails to Tracker were incorrectly implemented or ignored. Hopefully I can now close this book and move on, and I hope they don't continue debiting my bank account......
I wish I had read the Smeg reviews before getting involved with Smeg. Apart from a number of failures of various components of my Smeg stove, I am now told that I have to pay R1400 for a new front panel that shows the various settings of the burners and oven. The painted-on markings have simply rubbed off. As many other customers have complained - you pay a fortune for a so-called premium brand, then you get such rubbish and you get ripped off for any spares that you need. I would have been no worse off buying the cheapest Chinese stove. Smeg is actually rubbish - just saying.
Purchased a Water Stream Gold Standard Big Blue 3-cartridge water filtration system from Affordable Brands. Water tasted contaminated even after passing hundreds of litres of water through the system. Initially they offered some advice but nothing helped, the taste (and smell) of the water remained terrible. Eventually they stopped responding. Waste of money.
I paid Fines SA R1400 for a particular fine and about a month later received a notice from the traffic department that the fine had been withdrawn. I went to Fines SA and asked for a refund but was told that that is the way the system works; if a fine is withdrawn, they keep the full amount. So I recommend that you rather try and get it withdrawn yourself before paying the traffic department directly.
