Terrible FOREX department for Capitec Business Bank. It's an endless struggle every month to get my incoming international payments cleared. It's service like this that makes it harder for South African companies to compete internationally.
I had a terrible experience with DIYSHOP. I ordered drip tape from their website, selecting the 23-metre option from their drop-down menu. When it arrived, I realised the item wasn’t fit for purpose and couldn’t be used. I called their contact number to discuss a return, but the person who answered was incredibly rude and unhelpful. They claimed that the item was non-refundable because it was a “custom measurement.” This is nonsense—the 23-metre option is clearly listed as a standard selection on their website. If it’s a standard option, why wouldn’t they accept the return and resell it to another customer? It feels like nothing more than an excuse to avoid honouring returns. This kind of dishonest practice and poor customer service is unacceptable. I wouldn’t recommend dealing with DIYSHOP — beware if you’re considering making a purchase.
We paid off our home loan in full in May 2024. Believe it or not, we are still struggling (October 2024) to finalise the home loan and get our deed due to the absolute incompetence of Standard Bank. After chasing these guys around for weeks now with multiple phone calls and frustrations, the latest hilarious story we got from them is that the amount we paid way back when has been flagged as "*****ulent" because "it was never claimed". What!?! This after we physically went into a branch and made the final payment right there with the help of two consultants, who assured us everything was now taken care of. Home affairs is more clued up than these clowns...
We ordered two desks from Christo, the owner of Prompt Carpentry, and unfortunately, the experience has been nothing short of a nightmare. Ironically, the company name couldn't be further from the truth—it's now three weeks past the due date, and we still have no desks, no refund, and no communication from Christo. The first desk that did arrive was of abysmal quality. It was constructed from melamine boards that were supposed to be cut by the supplier and then assembled by Prompt Carpentry. However, Christo later revealed that he had entrusted the assembly to one of his employees, and even he admitted that the quality was substandard. Here’s a summary of the issues: Misaligned panels: None of the panels lined up properly. Messy wood filler: Large gaps were filled with wood filler, but it was done very poorly. Damaged veneer: The melamine veneer was chipped and damaged in several areas. Unfinished edges: The bottom of the vertical "leg" sections wasn't edged, meaning that any contact with water during floor cleaning would cause the wood to swell, crumble, and eventually rot. Christo promised to rectify the desks himself, but after another week of waiting, we still had no desks and were unable to move into our office. He then agreed to issue a refund so that we could purchase new desks elsewhere. It's been three days since that promise, and we still haven’t received the refund. Worse yet, Christo is now ignoring all our calls and messages. This has been an incredibly frustrating experience, and I would strongly advise others to avoid doing business with Prompt Carpentry.
We recently had a storm that resulted in several broken and cracked roof tiles. I contacted Standard Bank Insurance, who sent their "approved service provider" out to start with the repair. It was obvious to me that this service provider was not a roofing specialist, but I had no say in choosing the supplier. Unfortunately, this contractor made a terrible mess of the repair, and the roof is now in a worse condition. The ridge tiles were so poorly replaced that I can now fit my entire hand in the gap between tiles that were supposed to lie flush on top of one another, and there are another 90 broken tiles that still need replacement. Now, I am waiting for an independent assessor to come and look at the mess the original "approved service provider" left on my roof. I have been waiting 5 days now with not a peep from anyone, despite me following up with Standard Bank Insurance every single day.
Absolutely disgusted with the service I received from WEBAFRICA! I placed an order on February 1st for a crucial moving home service, only to be met with absolute radio silence. Not a single confirmation email, not even a carrier ***eon with a note strapped to its leg! Given that I work from home and depend heavily on the internet, I decided to reach out today. Little did I know, this would be the start of a five-hour WhatsApp marathon with their so-called customer support. And what gem of information did I unearth? Apparently, there's a mysterious "order processing fee" that no one deigned to mention. So, instead of smoothly transitioning to my new address, I'm left twiddling my thumbs in frustration. After being bounced around like a hot potato, I finally landed in the billing department, where I had the pleasure of engaging in a useless WhatsApp conversation with Sandile M. This individual had the audacity to send me a link to pay the elusive fee online. Oh, but wait! When I informed her that my phone number wasn't cooperating, she took it upon herself to reset my login details to WebAfrica. Really? Is this some sort of sick joke? I'm at my wit's end here. I'm seriously considering pulling the plug on my account unless this circus gets sorted out pronto. It's a shame that a company purportedly in the business of providing essential services can't even manage the basics of communication and customer service. Disappointed doesn't even begin to cover it.
Paid the deposit for my courtesy car (organised by Outsurance) via the First Car Rental online system. The payment went through via my Capitec account (I have the bank statement to prove it), but First Car says it has not come through on their side. Now I have no courtesy car and out of pocket R1750. Pathetic
Werner went out of his way to sort us out with a Plumbing COC within 2 days of me contacting him. His findings of issues were legitimate, unlike 2 other "reputable" companies that did inspections. And to top it off, his rates are very reasonable. Cannot recommend enough!
I ordered a pair of Shokz OpenRun Bone Conduction Open-Ear Sport Headphones from Istore SA. The Price was good, and the product was delivered as expected. However, the product is really poor quality, and now trying to get it returned is proving to be very difficult. There is no response from the company, having already submitted my return application 4 days ago. If it was Takelot the product would have been collected and my account credited already.
Placed an order for gumboots on the 27th of December 2021. Today is the 20th of January 2022 and they still have not arrived. Silver lining gumboots are blaming the couriers - Fastway. Even if it is a courier issue, this should not be my problem to solve or chase up, and it should not take more than three weeks to receive an item that was ordered online from a local supplier. We live in a main suburb in Cape Town where we get deliveries all the time with no issues: Checkers, Takealot, Mr D - never an issue.
