Just over a year ago I went to the Sanook restaurant in Somerset West for the first time, looking for some internet after I transferred from the north side of town to the centre. The staff were very courteous and helpful and soon virtually everyone knew my name and greeted me in a cordial manner. Initially I mostly had coffee but gradually I tried some dishes on their menu and found them quite delicious. The servings were also quite ample, and not being a great eater, I would usually take half home in a doggy bag. Apart from the friendliness I experienced from the management and waiters, I found much about Sanook that I liked. It has very basic furniture, and none of the pretentious glitter that more ostentatious establishments have, and it is quite spacious. This is probably also the reason that their prices are quite affordable. I also found that the waiters keep an eye on their customers’ needs. Recently they introduced a winner for lunch times during the week, consisting of a special menu featuring mainly of so-called Buddha bowls, but also other dishes – all at just R 60! One such bowl is a quite an adequate meal. As a person who has been in the wine trade commercially, wine is a particularly important parameter for me. Sanook has a wine menu with an excellent variety of wines per glass, at reasonable prices, but their tour de force is a huge wine cabinet that faces you as you walk in, with an incredible variety of superb South African wines. I have taken many friends to Sanook recently, and they all share my enthusiasm for the restaurant, and expressed their intentions to bring it to the attention of their friends.

Both my mom and I ordered burgers we asked for medium to well and they were basically still alive. Yes they gave us new ones, but the food took long to get to our table both times and the waiter was mainly at the counter eating sweets and didn't really check on us.

I was at the Somerset branch for a work event where we were served pizzas and good wine. It was probably the best pizzas I have ever tasted and the wine was excellent. Other than the food, the waiters were friendly and service was very good. Will most definitely go there with my family next time.

The food was delicious, the wine was fabulous and the service was great. However, given the prices on the menu, the portions are a bit small. My husband had two dinners!

Such a romantic place to take your partner. The food is absolutely amazing and the staff are really friendly and helpful and the managers are always around to make sure the service you receive is of the highest standard. I would recommend Sanook to anyone wanting to go on a date
