Recently got my back injured at work and i went to St Georges hospital , emergency unit. The staff there were so amazing very friendly , the actually noticed that i can't really sit down for long due to the unbearable pain and they provided me with a wheelchair and also brought me a hot blanket to put on back because it was a bit busy a the beds were all occupied. They actually made a plan for me to get some painkillers and took me to x-ray while waiting for the bed . Even the doctor or nurse or trainee doctor who took me the was friendly and professional. Finally i was given a bed and a doctor did come and examined me and told me it's "muscle spasm elicited in the left lumber area" . He told me he will send a nurse to give me some medication and monitor if the meds are taking effect. A nurse did come and surprisingly told me i am being released , she brought me the release papers and some pills to drink when i get home and those pills 2 of the were not covered or in a container, she was holding them in her bare hands , mind you i don't what she touched before coming to me nor if those hands were washed or sanitized, due to pain i actually had no fight in me or to ask her if it's protocol to have somebody's medication in your bare hands. I asked her so i came here with this pain and I'm now with more pain than I did when i came (mind you i had to drive myself from there to my home that is about 20-25km ,it was like she did not care just as long as i vacate the bed. On my way out those friendly ladies by the front asked me how am I feeling now , I **** and said I'm feeling much better i think i did not want to see the look of shame on their faces after their friendly and professional manner. They asked if i got all my paper work and it turned out there was no sick note included on the paper work, so again i had to endure the pain and stand there while they called that same nurse to provide me with it . I waited for more than 15mins until they decided to go look for her. I was given 2 day off (the day i was there and the bext day), mind you i can only sit down for a couple of mins on a chair before the pain becomes unbearable then i need to stand also for a couple of mins for the same effect to take place. After those 2 days were depleted i had to go to my own personal doctor to assist. I'm supposed to go back to St Georges again for a check up, I'm still in pain and yet i don't really feel like going back due to the fact that i have to sit in pain and leave the hospital feeling more pain than i do now. A rushed job is better than no job at all . The date was on 06/10/2025. Even my bosses are wondering why am i back so soon seeing how much pain I'm in. The stars are for those people that assisted me so much with their care and compassion even though the hospital was extremely busy but they still managed to help out as much as the could

Hi My name is Brendan Coetzer. I got injured in a rugby match Saturday 10 August 2024. Before going to St Georges hospital we phoned to find out would tests be done if we go there now, because we are from Bushmansriver (130km away from Port Elizabeth). They said we must come through and scans and xrays will be done and if a surgery is necessary we will stay over and operation will be arranged for. We arrived at around 18:20 and only had a checkup at around 20:00. The nurse that did the checkup said she spoke to the doctor even if I have a torn ligament the surgeon will only see me on Monday. We only saw the doctor at around 22:45 where he sent me for a xray and said that they do not do any scans over weekends and I would have to come in next week somewhere to see if I have a torn ligament in my knee. We left the hospital around 00:00 with nothing at all. 80% of the people that was there complained about the pour service on Saturday with some people even leaving the hospital. There was an old man that came in around 16:00 and was only told around 22:00 that his arm was broken on two places. They made no effort with making him comfortable and he was sitting in a wheelchair and sleeping. This was by far the worst service I received from a private hospital. This is the type of things you see in State hospitals. Regards Brendan Coetzer

My son is at the casualty sins 11 this morning and he is still not treated or helped 04/03/2024, for a private hospital it's ward looks like a state hospital dirty and smells, taking my son to another hospital

I was not happy with the way I was treated at St Georges hospital on date 24 August afternoon. After being admitted at st Georges hospital on the 21st of August I received a bed at a ward,I was later on (24th August) moved to the Medical ward in the morning around 8:00 am and being moved with my bed I was told to leave all my belongings and that they would be packed and follow me to the ward. After my things had followed I realised my belongings in the bag were wet,I realised a bottle of juice had been placed in my bag, unclosed, wetting my charger, documents everything in the bag being soaking wet.I then rang the assistance bell on my bedside for a nurse and Sister Sinazo Sani approached.I explained to her that my bag had been wet,and I need to charge my phone. She went to fetch an adapter for my charger and a wet cloth, returned and upon arriving she took out my charger and a few things and asked who wet your bag,I then rep**** I am not sure because I had left the bag to follow me.She then threw the cloth she went to fetch on me and said She will not be helping me,She left everything she had took out of my bag right on the bed next to me and left, without charging my phone after I had asked her to.A few minutes later I see her a few beds away from me in the same ward discussing with a fellow nurse and after hearing her saying a few things rudely I heard her saying in Isixhosa:”ucimba ndiyintanga yakhe lo,inoba ubona lomzimba umncinci”,which simply translates to “ Maybe She thinks Im her age mate, because of my tiny physique”.I felt disturbed, why would she throw a cloth at me,throw a tantrum then go throw an attitude tantrum within the same room as me so I could hear what she had to say about me.This had left me restless and upon venting to the other patients I found myself crying,I am deeply disturbed and bothered by this,I was clearly not the only one that was unhappy as other patience started commenting about being unhappy and the nurses having an attitude.

I have been back 3 times in the last few weeks. From the moment I walked in the door yesterday I felt happy and relaxed, i was greeted by the smiling lady at reception who actually remembered my name, the lovely, friendly young man who takes you to the ward, the kind and caring nurses, clean, comfortable, sunny room on the Yellowwood floor, the friendly Fedics catering lady and believe it or not the delicious meal. I definitely recommend St George's hospital
