Public Consumer Post (HelloPeter / Social Media) I need to warn the public about what I believe is a dangerous triangle of collusion between Mediclinic Vergelegen ER, Winelands Radiology, and Dis-Chem/Kaelo Health. On 4 August 2025, I suffered a severe shoulder and wrist injury. At Mediclinic Vergelegen ER, Dr. R. van Gruting suspected a torn rotator cuff. Yet: No urgent sonar or MRI was arranged (despite the machines being in the same building). My swollen wrist/hand was ignored — no X-ray, no immobilisation, no treatment. I was discharged with nothing more than pain tablets. Weeks later, my tendon has now retracted, my wrist remains untreated, and I face possible permanent disability. 👉 Here’s the pattern: Mediclinic ER refers scans to Winelands Radiology (different practice numbers). Winelands Radiology bills separately. Dis-Chem/Kaelo then repudiates authorisations, calling them “follow-ups” instead of emergencies. This system traps patients: they think they’re covered, but end up abandoned, untreated, and buried in medical bills. This isn’t just my story — it’s a systemic problem. How many other South Africans are being caught in this cross-referral trap? I’m calling on Council for Medical Schemes, National Consumer Commission, Carte Blanche, and the Minister of Health to urgently investigate.

Had an appointment at Busamed. Let me tell you dont bother booking an appointment to help you with time management, they dont stick to timeframes. Booking was for 9:00, started sonar at 9:40. WORST experience ever. They over book or let people in before you. Will not return to Busamd Winelands Radiology. Nevee had this experience at Vergelegen.

On the 15th of September I went for an x-ray at winelands radiology in Busamed Somerset West. I was told I need to do an upfront payment then claim the refund from my medical aid or health insurance - I did. I submitted all the paper work to my health insurance. Yesterday i followed up with my insurance because they don't usually take this long to payout claims. Upon following up I was told payment has been made to Winelands Radiology as they submitted a claim on my insurance (God know why because I already paid them). I contacted them asking why the hell? now I need to claim refund from them which will take up to 7 working days - I have been waiting for longer than a month already. Please get you sh*** together. I am not even going to mention that you gave me an incorrect quote for the procedure as well - poor service!

On Saturday 22nd August 2020 I had a fall and was referred by my doctor to Winelands Radiology at Vergelegen for x-rays of my ankle with a suspected break. After filling out the paperwork I was called in for the x-rays and expected to walk or hop the long distance. I had to ask for a wheelchair. I was a bit taken aback by the lack of logic and attentiveness but just left it. Apparently nothing was broken, but 5 weeks later I was not yet better and advised by my physio to have an ultrasound. On Friday 25th September 2020 I phoned the Vergelegen branch to book an appointment. I was told to come on Tuesday 29th September at 10:00. I was phoned on Monday afternoon to confirm the appointment and asked to arrive at 9:45. I arrived at 9:45, waited until 10:00, and then was told that my appointment was at Paardevlei, and they could not assist me at Vergelegen. We rushed to Paardevlei, only to be told that my appointment was not there either and I had to go to Basamed. Nobody communicated the change in location during the booking and confirmation, and nobody apologized for messing us around. Over an hour later I was finally seen to. I was just sent on a wild goose chase in a moon boot. I emailed Winelands Radiology regarding the chaos on the 29th. Today (1st October) I received a call, full of attitude and defense, with a forced apology, but refusing to take responsibility. As a health professional myself I am appalled.

On 3 December 2018, I visited Winelands Radiology at Vergelegen MediClinic for Xrays. Per my request (and I completed the release forms) they omitted to send the results on to me via email. I gathered that they sent it on to the doctor (whom I had not heard from either) and that everything was in order. When I followed up with them on 23rd January (weeks later), the report in fact stated that I had to go for a scan, as there might have been a tumor. At this point, I wanted to know 1) why they had not sent me the report in December already, as this could be serious 2) why it was not sent to the doctor, who I checked with and confirmed they had not received it. They confirmed that the person originally sent it to the incorrect email address to the doctor, and then corrected it. But failed to send it to me completely and admitted to this. This was negligent. Had I received it, I could have followed up with the doctor in December already. After seeing the ENT - who looked at the Xrays and the newly taken Scan, he confirmed me that they incorrectly diagnosed me from the Xrays and there was absolutely no sign of a tumor. When I followed up with them in this regard, they refused to take accountability or refunding me the cash I spent based on an incorrect opinion and also their negligence in not sending it on to me - rolling into a new medical year and already spending a chunk from my new medical aid savings. Not only did they waste my time, and my medical funds in a new medical year, due to their incompetence, but they also caused unnecessary trauma with the diagnosis of a tumor which never existed in the first place. I tried on numerous occasions to claim the scan costs back, but the manager kept replying, they see the case is closed This had been 29 March. I requested for this matter to be escalated, and to date, have not heard from them again. I find it appalling that the company takes advantage of people. I shudder to think what transpires with other patients who do not ask questions or don't have the knowledge regarding their rights as a customer. How many other reports have not been sent on? What is the use of signing a release form if you don't receive your report.
