On a Sunday, I took my frail mother in her wheelchair to buy her some treats. Out of nowhere, the manager appears and says “you have 30 seconds to pay and leave, or just leave”. Well, I have never had such rude treatment from a retail store, and I told him so. Unphased, he told me that “this is not Pick n Pay, welcome to ABC Sweets, if you are not out in 30 seconds I will lock you in the shop, and see you tomorrow” (I have no idea why he brought Pick n Pay into this). By this time, we had a trolley load, and I do mean a trolly load of drinks and treats. However, I elected to abandon the trolley in favour of removing my mother from the store and away from what seemed to be a very hostile store owner/manager The rudeness from this chap has no bounds. I would strongly dissuade any potential sweety shoppers from ever setting foot in this arrogant, rude person’s store, don’t support this Centurion store.

Very bad experience on Saturday, 16 March 2024. Shop's admin & payment system has apparently been offline since Thursday. I have empathy with the frustration and challenges caused by it but definitely not with the way the situation was managed. Customers queued for longer than an hour. When getting to the front, each item was recorder in detail manually with waiting periods in between when a staff member or manager took individual items back to the shelves and wrote prices on it with a permanent marker. This process was repeated a couple of times with different items and with all customers. We were also informed (only) at the till that some items in our shopping baskets could not be purchased because it was new stock and the prices, thus, not available. (Prices could apparently only be accessed on the system, which was off line.) WHY COULD CUSTOMERS NOT BE INFORMED ABOUT THIS ON ENTEREING THE STORE OR WHILE STANDING IN THE QUEUE FOR APPROXIMATELY AN HOUR?! It also would've made sense and save a lot of time if items in customers shopping baskets were priced with the black markers staff were running around with at till point. On top of it all, the items that did have prices and I could buy (less than half of the things in my shopping basket) were packed in two plastic bags without even asking me if I want to have plastic bags. I was charged R8, 00 for these bags. Although having a local sweets store with reasonable prices, which is very convenient for a school teacher, I will rather travel to another area of Pretoria next time. The store manager's comment was simply: "It is not my fault."

I had a horrible experience this morning with the manager at ABC sweets (Centurion Crescent) Yesterday I purchased zoom juices in a pack of 12. This morning as I was packing the juices I realised that most of the juices were leaking from the top and had damaged the party packs I had packed for my doughters birthday. I went to the store in the morning to ask for a refund as I cannot purchase an item I am not happy with. I went there with my proof of purchase and I found the manager. I tired explaining to him the damage if the juices and he kept on cutting me off being extremely rude to me and telling me even if I expose him he doesn't care and he will not replace or refund me and he doesn't care because it's not his fault.

It's a beautiful sweet cash and carry. Their prices are very much reasonable and they sell almost all brands of sweets, biscuits and cookies and chocolates. They also offer wholesale discounts and they have another branch in Silverton.

On Monday 17 May 2021 I visited the store with my sister too buy sweets for her kids lunch boxes and to return expired sweets she bought the previously about 2 weeks back. With the till slip as proof. When we entered the we first spoke with the manager to explain and if we can return as it expired way back already and it made the kids sick. She agreed and said we can exchange it. We proceeded to get all the things she needs which in total was R1215. At the till point a manager was called to authorize the exchange of the expired items which totaled to R39. At the till point the manager then refused to do the exchange because we bought it at the Centurion branch but my sister did confirm prior if we need to return to Centurion or is it allowed at any branch and she was told no problem any branch. I told the manager take that sweets and throw them in the dustbin because if you want to cry about R39 I'm not going to cry about it because it is ridiculous. After all we're supporting his store buying other stuff we need of the value of R1215 but he wants to cry about R39. I think anybody will agree thats ridiculous. I will never support ABC sweets again and call on everybody to check the items expire dates when purchasing anything from them because you will end up with a doctor's bill and expired sweets making you and your kids sick.

On Saturday 13 March 2021 we went to ABC SWEETS Centurion. We asked one of the employees to assist us in exchanging change for notes, as we wanted to bank this money into a savings account. (We did inform the employee of this, and not once did the employee advise that this is not possible.) After quite some time of struggling with the machine which was not working the employee called the manager for assistance. The manager came to assist and brought it for the first time to our attention that the money can only be exchanged for a voucher for purchases instore and only until COB. Not once was this communicated to us, prior to entering the money into the machine. We advised the manager that we were not aware of this and cannot buy R600 worth of sweets. The manager advised that this is not his problem and that we should go around in the store and ask other customers if we cannot exchange our voucher for their cash. This was really demeaning and embarresing, as fellow shoppers thought we were begging for money. The manager advised that this was not the first time someone lost money like this. But still the employee who assisted us, did not inform us of this. This was really an upsetting experience of more than 1hour as all I wanted to do was exchange my son's coins which he has been saving for notes. I have always experienced good service from ABC Sweets however on this day, we endured rude and unhelpful employees from the moment we entered the door. Kind Regards.
