Never ever use this "so called" insurance company. I have dealt with dozens of insurance companies over the years and Compass is by far the worst you will ever deal with. I assume their policy is to reject ever possible claim they can, they use bully tactics because they think they are bigger than the rest, they stretch the truth and make ever effort to ***** the insured over. I have had 2 claims (personal and business) rejected by them and they go above and beyond to make sure that the claim is rejected....6 years with them, 1 claim in that time and the 2nd claim they reject. Avoid at all costs.

Due to my costly and bad experiences from Compass Insurance Company it is clear that they have minimum intention to assist homeowners with incidents. They advertise 'peace of mind' to home owners, while ensuring to repudiate as many claims as possible, while charging costly insurance fees. Therefore with my experience, the statement is not true. I have a water damaged apartment, after 4 months of getting absolutely nowhere and having nowhere to live, thanks to them rejecting my claim since December.

Compass Insurance Company accepted my insurance for my property many years ago without any exclusions. At the end of March 2020 during a massive haelstorm the trusses in my roof collapsed because of the weight of the hael. They sent out an assessor who partially assessed the roof. Compass the appointed their own contractor who was given a mandate without my knowledge to only repair the ceiling. They then claimed that he was never given a mandate to repair the roof trusses without my knowledge. Compass claimed the roof deteriorated over years and it was not caused by a once off incident. However during the 17 years that we lived in the house, we never ever had any problems with our roof, leaks or our trusses. The contractor proceeded to remove the tiles, although Compass now claims it was not part of his mandate, and then contacted me to inform me that the assessor did not assess the front end of our patio area and there were trusses there that also needed repair. Compass refused to admit that the assessor neglected to assess the whole roof at his first visit, and I was forced to pay the balance directly to the contractor. In September 2020 during the first rain of the season, the roof leaked like a seive. Compass was contacted again, but now they refused to pay for repairs as they maintain the mandate for their appointed contractor was not to remove the tiles. Although they maintain that the repair of the trusses and removal of the roof tiles were not part of his mandate, photos taken of the inside of the roof, proofs that he attempted to fix the trusses with little planks in a wishy washy way. Still, nothing has been done to fix my trusses or roof properly. Compass has now after a lot of attempts from my broker paid to have the damaged ceilings repaired. This leaves me with a damaged roof first of all by the hael storm and secondly, additional damaged caused by their appointed contractor. I have also now claimed for loss of income as this is a rental property and the ceilings have to be removed. Compass now claims that they are not going honour this claim as they think when the ceilings are being removed the house is still habitable as there is a bathroom and a kitchen!! If I had a roof exclusion at the beginning of my insurance period with Compass, I would understand their refusal to address this claim properly, but no one ever came out to my house to inspect or assess my roof and house before they started to accept my montly payments. Now they claim my roof had a structural problem from the start. This is however not true. I have never had any problems until the hael storm in 2020.

Almost 3 years since one of the biggest storms Linbro Park AH, Sandton, 2090 has had in 150 years, with more than 3 years of not one claim on the property (for anything), I have not received one rand for a claim that has now been agreed by Compass Insurance to have a quantum of about R80,000.00 after first offering me R10,000.00 in full and final settlement after being instructed by one of their intermediaries that all my buildings were illegal. This is an ongoing matter with the Ombudsman for Short Term Insurance, but the public needs to be warned about this company and their wholly owned subsidiary run by Douglas Haig, CIA (Commercial & Industrial Acceptances) who act as the "Underwriting Managers" for their holding company. I was referred to these businesses by my broker and with their ultimate owners being Hannover RE, they wield huge power in all the professionals I have contacted to give honest professional reports which would corroborate the storm damage. Repudiation reasons given have varied from the fact that all my water damage is a coincidence to me not having wanted to claim for the damage to defective construction, ongoing maintainance issues (despite a no claims history), and even "betterment" when moving from municipal sewage to a septic tank system after following their advice immediately subsequent to the storm damage notification to my broker.

We have been with this company for many years now. They have a policy of payment of repairs for geysers but only R1000.00 per claim less the excess for each claim. Surely with the cost of repairs and after hours call-out and weekend cal-louts by plumbers this should be increased. They say a full geyser repair is only R3000.00 I would like to know which plumber will work for that when geysers are over R5000.00 now a days. If someone can suggest another company which will work with Sectional Title Body Corporate, I would love to hear from them Thanking you Kathy

In December 2018 part of our garage roof collapsed during a violent wind and hail storm. Compass insurance sent an assessor in January 2019 who duly rejected the claim as saying that it was an original design fault of the roof trusses which were installed, and approved by a building inspector, thirty years ago. so why didn't the whole house then collapse?? my argument is - who do we believe - a building inspector or an assessor? the installed roof trusses, together with the whole house was signed off and approved by a building inspector when the house was built 30 years ago - why is it now a design fault??? especially as it has lasted 30 years already - i think that it is just a lame excuse not to pay the claim. we have been paying insurance on the house without one single claim and now when we do have a claim, it gets rejected??? together with our Insurance brokers, RBS Insurance brokers, who are no help to anybody at all, I have never been so disappointed in a company in my life!!! all they do is take your money and find excuses not to pay - so why bother to have insurance at all?????
