Department of Labour - Compensation Fund
Based on recent customer reviews, the Department of Labour Compensation Fund is described by claimants and employers as deeply frustrating to engage with. A recurring theme is unresolved claims dragging on for months or years, with customers consistently mentioning unanswered phones, ignored emails, and repeated requests to resubmit the same documents. Domestic employers, pensioners, injured workers, and bursary students all report feeling sent from pillar to post. Online registration and refund processes are described as broken, while in-person visits to labour centres reportedly yield rude treatment and little resolution.

I am extremely frustrated with the lack of service from the Compensation Fund. I have a lifetime benefit claim active since 2001, and all I requested was a simple update of my banking details so that my monthly payments can continue without interruption. Since November 2025, I have: Submitted all required documents (certified ID, proof of banking, completed forms, etc.) Followed up multiple times Received little to no feedback or resolution Despite complying with all requirements, my banking details have still not been updated, causing ongoing financial strain. This is not a new claim — it is an administrative update that should not take months to resolve. I request: Immediate update of my banking details Confirmation that future payments will be made into the correct account Feedback on when the outstanding issue will be fully resolved

I wish I could give it no stars at all. I have a new domestic worker. I want to register her for workmen’s compensation. You are SUPPOSED to be able to do it online. Getting into the system is impossible. After entering your details you have to “type the image words”. The purpose of this is unclear, perhaps it isn’t be sure you are not an AI entity. So you figure out what they are beneath a pointless squiggle vaguely resembling a curved sword and you type them. No matter how many times you do it you do not succeed and need to enter them again. Each time you fail a new “word” comes up so there are no second attempts. After about 20 attempts you give up in sheer frustration as most normal people have lots of other things they need to fit into their day, and cannot potentially spend hours carrying out this useless step repeatedly. If you get past this as I did on one occasion you are then asked for your trading name, never mind you are a pensioner simply employing a lady to help you with housework one morning a week. Without a trading name the submit button doesn’t work. And no, your ID number does not suffice. Needless to say no phone in the entire department ever gets answered. In desperation you decide to go to an office. Despite no contrary indications on Google, the DoL office at the Royal Hotel in Durban does not do regular DoL work only stuff at Provincial level, and the other one opposite the yacht mole has a queue about 100 people long and as a 66 year old woman in poor health you would be a fool to join it as the chances of having your handbag and/or some of its contents ****** are extremely high, as you are standing out on an open veranda, exposed not only to the people in the queue, some of whom are no doubt desperate for money, but also the general public walking past. You go home having wasted time and the costs of parking in the CBD and have nothing to show for it. I would like to give this lady a chance to earn some money but with this level of difficulty in registering her for workmen’s compensation I must either break the law or terminate her contract after a single morning of perfectly satisfactory service.

I registered a claim in 2023 for an injured employee, it took months for the claim to be registered, i paid my employee for the months she was off sick, i have been going to Alberton Labor center since then with required documents however every time those were wrong according to them just to buy time, sometimes we will be told the system is off we need to go, sometimes other friends of theirs will come in with bulk documents and be assisted. i have been travelling that road till today to claim for refund on TTDs., the service is really bad i must say, demotivating. As a domestic employer, i did all to my power to do the right thing, i had to ask my employee to go home since i was unable to pay her anymore since i am not being refunded. I have been dealing with Thapelo

I didn't receive my pension Compensation funds for November 2025.Since I've calling the call center from the 26th of November till today nothing is happening but surprisingly all the people I spoke to they said the money it's on execute payment just need to be send into my account but the pay master is not willing to do the right thing just by executing my funds into the account. I'm so frustrated my life it's on a standstill because of those who doesn't want to do the right thing please help us intervene
