We brought my 79-year-old mother to the emergency unit at Life Wilgers Hospital at 16:15 pm Thursday 05 March 2026 with an urgent referral from her doctor stating she needed to be admitted. Despite this, she remained in the emergency unit for over 9 hours and was only admitted at 01:15 am Friday morning 06 March 2026. During this time she was placed on multiple drips, clearly requiring treatment and monitoring, yet no decision was made for hours about admitting her. After the fourth drip, the doctor requested further blood tests before deciding on the next step. We then waited a long time for someone to draw the blood. My husband eventually had to go and ask staff to assist. Several nurses were sitting while one nurse was helping another patient, and they seemed irritated when he asked if someone could please help. The biggest problem was the complete lack of communication. Staff walked past constantly but nobody explained what was happening or what the next step would be. My husband even spoke to the Emergency Manager, yet nothing changed and the situation was still not handled with urgency. For a very sick elderly patient, this experience was extremely stressful and unacceptable. We would appreciate a response from hospital management explaining how a patient with an urgent referral could wait more than 9 hours in emergency without proper communication or urgency. If necessary, we will escalate this matter through the appropriate patient complaint channels.

This hospital should be shut down, absolutely terrible administration and staff. Months later you'll get a final letter of demand (as the first notice/statement/invoice) for individual hospital bills that do not make sense, and are exuberant over and above medical aid settlement. Dr Mathonsi is a terrible Dr due to her immature behaviour, and will put your life at risk, we almost suffered a fatality due to her incompetence. Nurses are loud in the evenings when patients are meant to sleep, when asked questions about prescribed tests they don't know anything. Absolutely disgusting behaviour in this hospital.

One star, no wait. Zero stars. 0. Extremely poor hospital. The nurses are so rude and talk to patients as bad as they can. It is in the ICU CARDIO. Nurses was so rude to a person who was so weak, critical, almost dead. I was in the ICU in the bed next to him. While they were so rude to him, he keep on saying to them that he in not rude and bad, while as how this nurse made him out to be so bad and rude. A black nurse. I was almost crying. Almost all, on the day shift, was making fun of me and they were laughing at me when they saw my private parts while I was sitting in bed. I was so belittled when I realized they were laughing at me, but wait, there's more... If they were not laughing at me it is because the person next to me who is very sick and weak, was throwing up and other symptoms with his bowel. Almost all, no wait, all of the black day shift, was talking so hard and laugh, a hell of a noise, so bad that the patients in ICU CARDIO can not rest and be restful in the ICU where there it is supposed to be quiet because the patients are extremely sick and are sleeping and resting. After my post on social media, I mentioned that my arm feels very bloated and painful when the heartrate monitor was on and my arm, my arm was red and hot when it was taking my blood pressure, she told me that I am the only one who is complaining. Her name is Ester, right? And black. The Main nusce come to me straight away. While the main nurse was attempting to motivate and warn me to, don't know what, to intimidate me because I expose them, there was another mother and her daughter in ICU complaining to main nurse or 2nd in charge about how awful Wilgers hospital or service is. Nurses cover up nurses and their poor performance. This is why you never will hear about hospital poor performance. The main nurse knew I had a heart attack which is very serious and a threat to my life, she still came to me with her serious talks and warning. She did not concern herself with my condition and ask for my excuse because I tell on them. I could have been dead and they will still come to me and ask for my forgiveness. It all sprouted from the excruciatingly bad mouthing of the person next to me who was very, very sick and they still verbally abuse him and mistreated him.

My wife was admitted to the hospital in Pretoria end of January 2024 with a brain bleed (subdural hematoma) . All documents were filled in by my daughter and they made a copy of my Medihelp medical aid card (Same Medical aid that states they cover all in hospital costs). 18 months later i am being summonsed by a law firm to collect R42000 that I suddenly now am liable for. Why 18 months after? The main reason seems to be IN HOSPITAL ITEM CODE BILLED OUTSIDE HOSPITAL ADMISSION PERIOD and SERVICE/PROCEDURE NOT PRE-AUTHORISED MOTIVATION NEEDED. now hwo at the hospital is supposed to get authorizations (me?). Obviously a condition like this is life threatening and obviously her stay will depend on the treatment success? So now due to the poor administration I owe this money!! I go further to say on the Medical side treatment was great! Administration was extremely poor and the people handling accounts ***********

I submitted a detailed complaint to The Wilgers Hospital on 22 July 2025 regarding a traumatic experience at their Emergency Unit. Since then, I have received only one phone call—from a lady that is only in charge of the reception staff. On Saturday, 20 July, I rushed my husband to the ER due to severe dizziness, chest pain, and near-collapse. Despite his obvious distress, we were told to sit and wait with no sense of urgency. When I begged for help, staff were curt, dismissive, and visibly irritated. Communication was cold throughout the night. He was eventually seen after hours of waiting and then discharged at 01:00 in the morning with little clarity or explanation of what is going on. We returned the next morning and, although treated better by a different doctor, spent another four hours waiting. In total, we spent almost 10 hours at the Hospital Emergency Unit over a terrifying weekend, with minimal support or compassion from staff. Emergency care should be safe, responsive, and reassuring. Instead, we felt ignored, dehumanised, and left in the dark. The lack of empathy we encountered and now the lack of proper response to a serious complaint, is simply unacceptable.
