Update: Default Judgment Obtained
Update to my last review: I obtained a Small Claims Court default judgment against him (Dean Matthys), but have not been able to obtain satisfaction of the judgment debt, as the sheriff has been unable to locate him. The judgment debt is R17992.

DJ Roofing dishonourable
DO NOT USE DJ Roofing (Dean) we employed them in July 2025 to help us fix our roofing issues. We hoped to get a good job done, paid 20k deposit and ended up getting maybe 2 full days of work done with one guy on site and then got ghosted ! We still have been unable to get hold of Dean, to get the job completed in December 2025. Spare yourself the frustration.

Awful
Accepted our deposit, did 1.5 days of work and then went AWOL. Wouldn’t answer calls or respond to messages. Claimed, two weeks in a row, that this non-responsive behaviour was due to flu. Have just fired him and am trying to get my money back. Am interested to know if anyone else on this site would like to open a case against the company.

Awful

Shocking service made matters worse, and they don't care.
Completely appalled at the lack of service! March 2024 I contracted Dean to stop the rain coming in, in an indoor courtyard. After much follow up he finally sent a team in August to install a new box gutter which he said would resolve the problem. It rained even more indoors. I informed him I'd have guests from the 12th of December and the work needed to be fixed as it was a shoddy job. He sent his guys in again, and I let him know the same day that the rain is coming in and now filling buckets. It is dangerous to walk in the courtyard and the guests cannot use the room despite flying across the world and he knew that was the case. Many promises to send the workers and then not sending them. Deposit paid, he sent me an invoice for finished work when the brief to stop the rain getting in has not been fulfilled. To make matters worse the lack of attention to the job means there is mould in the ceiling. The client service is appalling. For a company that specialises in roofing and damp-proofing, 10 months on and a simple box cutter seal is still not working with rain entering the house like a curtain. Furthermore my guests were forced to check in during peak season and he literally doesn't care. I have photos, videos and chats to prove all the above and I reserve all rights to legal action due to complacency and lack of service.

STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!!!
Guys, please DO NOT do business with this company. They are *******. The owner Dean took my money for a job. But never completed it. The amount of work done and the amount of money i paid him does not balance out. He doesn't answer calls, sms's,emails, WhatsApp messages. Nothing. It's been almost 3 months now and not a single word from him. Please share far and wide to friends and family to steer clear of this guy and his company. He must go down and hard for taking people's hard earned money and abandoning their job. He doesn't even have the decency to even return a call or message. What kind of a businessman is that? I told him to return a portion of the money that he took from me and keep the balance for the work he has already done and I won't be angry or anything. I will just find someone else to complete the job. No hard feelings. He couldn't even do that. He really messed up and set me back now from my plans. It's not a nice feeling. I am beyond frustrated and angry now. Please share this to everyone you know in need of roofing,painting,etc work to be done. DJ Roofing and Waterproofing PTY LTD from Newlands East in Durban is bad news!!!!!! STAY FAR AWAY FROM THEM!!!!!

Guys, please DO NOT do business with this company. They are *******. The owner Dean took my money for a job. But never completed it. Best service ever
Best experience ever, we were looking for roof repair for ages as the prices were too expensive for us. Thank you DJ Roofing and Waterproofing for not only being economical but also providing a great service
