Based on recent customer reviews, Europcar faces severe and systemic customer experience failures across every service dimension. Customers consistently report withheld deposits, fabricated damage claims, unexplained invoicing, and a near-total breakdown in communication. While a handful of reviews praise individual staff members for professionalism, the overwhelming pattern is one of distrust, frustration, and unresolved disputes that erode confidence in the brand.

Europcar is so *********. I rented a BMW X1 recently. First the car was dirty upon collection. I used the vehicle for a day and dropped it off at Cape Town international airport. I inspected the car with my wife and got the returns agent to confirm if everything was in order, which he did. A little while later I received an email from Carmen indicating that there’s damage on the rear left door, which I knew a 100% was not there. The email also contained a claim form. I disputed this claim and asked for evidence of the damage. Carmen Benjamin and seven other people copied on the email did not respond to three of my emails requesting for evidence. My R18 700 deposit was not returned. I’m battling it out with their head office. Luckily for me, I have taken videos and pictures of the car. Upon coming here, I found several of such complaints. It would seem that this is a prevalent modus operandi. This level of ********* behaviour is ******** and disgusting.

Stay away from Europcar and Tempest. They are i credibly dishonest. I dropped the rental car off and got confirmation from the agent thay everything was in perfect order. HOURS later they mail me that they suddenly found a scratch that appeared and want me to fill in an incident report. They supply no proof of the scratch and cannot prove that they did not cause it. These people are dishonest and their business practices are bad. Stay away from them, there are much better rental agencies out there that will not try moves like this.

When renting a car the service was good. But when requesting my deposit to paid back europ car i received a invoice where my deposit is due to me and then weeks later when I followed up I received a call that am I aware of the wheel cap which is damaged I told them yes. Then Weeks later I received an Invoice where they wanted to take R1936 for one wheel cap. Then I needed to do follow ups and complain and weeks later I received another invoice and documents which is not even related to me but scanned in between my documents and other clients documents quoting me for Two wheel caps of R402.5 one. Then I had to dispute this. Then days later they send me a new quote from a different supplier saying One wheel cap Is R733.92 and after all that they want to charge me with a admin claim of R400. This is bad service provided and it takes them 2-3 business days to respond to one email.

Went on Monday the 9 th to collect a car as arranged the previous week on arrival i was made to wait nearly 3 hours as my reservation did not pull through, the receptionist did not even try and call my insurer to explain what the holdup was i contacted my insurer throughout and was made middleman between the 2 companies, while having to witness the two female ***orkers bickering about who is responsible to pick up a vehicle from another client or location. No manager came to assist or intervene and he was there, instead he remained in the back office despite being fully aware of the inconvenience we were experiencing. At the end I got a car i was not happy with but was told that i get what is available, however upon request for a different car in the same range was told those were booked, why then was i not afforded the option of booking a car on Thursday last week when i arranged for car hire and spoke to your contact centre?? I would not recommend any one to deal with Europcar particularly the Mogale branch worst customer service ever.

My insurance company rented a vehicle on my behalf. The day before the return date, I received a WhatsApp reminder stating that the car was due for return at 15:25. I adhered to this instruction and arrived at the branch at approximately 15:00, only to find that the branch was already closed. I immediately contacted the emergency number for that branch while standing on the premises. The consultant informed me that the branch had closed at 14:00 and advised that alternative arrangements could be made for me to return the vehicle the following day. My concern is: Why am I being billed for an additional day when I arrived before the stipulated return time provided to me? I then called the emergcy number for that particular branch while at their premises, the lady then told me they closed at 14:00 and we can make arrangements to drop it of f the next day of which i did. My questioned is now, how am i being billed for that day when i was there before the stipulated time? Tell me Nannette Hattings, why are you billing me for your company error?

Based on recent customer reviews, this business delivers a consistently strong customer experience anchored by outstanding agent quality and rapid communication. Customers frequently name individual consultants and praise their friendliness, patience, and professionalism. Recurring praise is given to claims and roadside assistance, though a vocal minority report frustrating delays, rejected claims, and poor transparency around premium increases.
This business's biggest strength, according to Hellopeter's AI analysis, is Agent Quality & Customer Care. Named consultants are praised repeatedly for patience, friendliness, and going above and beyond. Words like 'amazing,' 'star,' and 'gem' appear frequently, reflecting genuinely caring human interactions.
The most common complaint, based on Hellopeter's AI analysis of recent customer reviews, is Pricing, Premiums & Transparency. Customers appreciate premium reductions upon request but complain about unexplained annual increases, hidden excess charges, and debits continuing after cancellation. Transparency at policy inception is a recurring gap.
