I apply for grade 1 at Alston primary school in Leondale for 2026. I was one of the first applicants but I never got placement, my two kids are going to Alston primary school, second applications from GDE website opened, still no placement, I asked at school if no space that was when collecting reports in December and was told there is still a space. I then phoned GDE and was told to wait until everyone to be placed, after the placement closing date my kid was transferred to the school I do not even know. I have paid for school fees of R10 000. 00 in advance hoping my child will be taken in Alston primary school. School uniform is ready that given to him by his elder brother. School transport gives discounts straight do I have to lose all the benefits because GDE failed to give me reason why they can't place my child so that I can fix it. Now I don't know what should I do as my child is very stressed that he is not taken to the school his siblings goes to. Hello Peter may you please help me get placement at Alston primary school for my third child so that he can be well taken care of by his siblings and I won't have to struggle with school uniform as there is a uniform from his elder brother. I am hoping my child to be taken at Alston primary school.

Gde online registration and learner placement.. This does not work at all. We live within a 1.8km from any of the edenvale high schools. On Gde site the school shows still processing but Gde sms says child is placed in Bedfordview high (not in the best location and not technically in Bedfordview) first placement sms received 19 December 2025, appeal refusal received 2 January 2026. My child was apparently number 606 on a waiting list and number 404 was last learner placed at Edenvale high school.. Lol could there really be 404 grade 8 learners within a 1.8km radius of the high schools in edenvale? Highly doubt this. The person that rep**** to the appeal practically states I have to choose Bedfordview high without any further option. Gde site does not work and the people doing the placements are definatly not looking at the documents they requested... (I am thinking the computers are just counting grade 8 student applications and randomly placing students in schools no matter the distance the learner lives from the requested schools) To my understanding the learners that live closest to the school receive preference... This is definatly not the case.

Good day We are really hoping for some assistance and we already bought school uniform for Rynfield primary as we had no communication of any changes until the 10 Nove 2025. Below is the appeal logged: Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the placement of my child for Grade 1 in 2026. We app**** to Rynfield Primary School and received an offer, which we accepted within the required seven-day period. Following the instructions provided, we visited the school on 19 October 2025 for further details and were advised that we would receive an SMS with additional information. However, after not receiving any communication, we visited the school again on 10 November 2025. At that time, we were informed that the Department had made an error and accepted all applicants, and as a result, our child’s placement status was changed. This is deeply concerning because: · The school is located two streets away from our home, making it the most practical and safe option for our child. · We are guardians of two other children who currently attend Rynfield Primary School, and it is in the best interest of the child to attend the same school for stability and family support. · We comp**** fully with all instructions and deadlines, and the error was caused by the Department’s system, not by us. The alternative school offered is far from our home, which will create significant logistical and financial challenges. The feedback when we received also stating that the screenshot we have cannot be submitted as substantial evidence. Evidence attached “In terms of Section 5 of the South African Schools Act, 1996, our child is entitled to fair and transparent admission. The official SMS confirmation received constitutes valid proof of placement. Furthermore, PAJA guarantees the right to administrative fairness and review of decisions, which has not been fully respected in this case.”

I am frustrated with the Grade 8 online admission process and the lack of clear feedback. I app**** on time, but the application still shows “Application is being processed”. I visited the district office and was told to wait two weeks as learners were still being placed. I then called the department twice and was again told to wait an extra week because placements were not yet finalised. I visited the department today and was informed that the school I app**** to is already full, and that all other schools within our zone are also full. This is confusing and concerning, as the system still shows that the application is being processed, with no official update or outcome provided. I was also told that placement is not done on a first come, first served basis, and that preference is given to learners who already have siblings at the school. This information was never clearly communicated, and it does not help parents when no schools in the area have space. At this point, there are no schools nearby that can accommodate my niece, and I am not being given clear guidance on what I am supposed to do next. Even the consultants seem unsure and unable to give clear answers. The system needs to be reviewed, as parents who apply on time should not be left without feedback or solutions. I urgently request clarity on my child’s placement and advice on the next steps.

GDE admissions is very frustrating and not accurate. My child is placed at a school I did not apply for with the reason that the achool I app**** for was filled by people who stay closer to the school. I'm frustrated as I can't properly plan. The school I app**** for is like 5 minutes walk from my house but the decided to place my child at a far away school. I feel this online system is failing us. Why should we provide addresses or proof of residence if it won't be considered when placements are made?
