I booked myself a room on the 27th of July. I got room number 4. Which has a joining door to room number 5. The guests in room number 5 decided to play their music loudly and talk loudly till well after 12 am. I could not find any staff to sort this out. I really expected more of a so called 4 star hotel. I will never recommend this hotel to any one.

I would like to say that I worked at the Halfway House Hotel until 1 month into lockdown, whereby I couldn't take it anymore, because the owner, Brian Doherty is an absolute HORRIBLE specimen (I wouldn't even call him human), because he treats his employees like garbage. He made me work like a slave during lockdown, even expected me to do his personal laundry. He swears and scream at employees and I was told that he even lifted his hands to some, but I did not see that, so I cannot say for sure. He still till this day owes me R14000,00 that the CCMA appointed to me for leave days that he refused to pay out to me and for owed Salary. The CCMA wanted to write up some of the Hotel's assets to compensate for my owed R14000,00, but his assets is under one of his other business's name, so it was untouchable, just like Brian Doherty thinks that he can treat people just like he wants because he thinks that he is untouchable and above the law. He even told me one day that I make him look like a c**t in front of his ex wife, for only telling the truth. The Halfway House Hotel is a beautiful establishment, but unfortunately this horrible person that does not deserve to be allowed to employ people. He even has the department of labour in his pocket. Employees lays complaints against him, but it goes nowhere from there.

When I arrived at the hotel, I got to the reception door which has a buzzer which does not work. I arrived just after 6pm and had to wave and act crazy to be seen after buzzing incessantly with no response. Once at reception, I was then told to pay for my stay even though I was booked by a travel agent. After apologising for this slight, I was directed to the hitel parking area. My stay included dinner and breakfast. I was not told at which of the multiple restaurants on site I could eat and I was not told operating hours for either of the two services. I eventually got to my room and after a shower I realised the DSTV decoder was mulfunctional. After over 30 minutes of resetting by one helpful young man, I was moved to another roomat approximately 19:45. I managed to ask where I can eat dinner and went to enjoy a lamb chop meal with the cold and highly questionable vegetables which I paid extra for. Even the onion rings were freezing and probably from a plate on which they were not eaten prior to my order. I eventually went back to my room and en route, asked about the wifi password and breakfast operating times such that i do not miss my meal. I travel extensively for work and pleasure and can emphatically say that this is the 2nd worst experience of my life at such an establishment and only second to another place only a few blocks from this very one. I am saddened by this experience as it was totally not necessary. I will advice all those who travel to Kimberley from both my company and within my personal circle to never frequent this establishment if they can help it. I sincerely hope that this was an isolated experience and if not, that this will be a last for anyone!!!

We arrived at hotel at 17h00 as per booking got told temporary room no hot water in our room. First room stank so we could not even enter. Dixie told us it is the fridge. Freshened up then had to sit in bar and restaurant for two hours.Dixie phoned room ready just spent R450 in restaurant. At reception we wanted to pay Dixie said no she will sort everything out in morning. At 21h30 knock on door owner wants his money Now after third visit car guard slide two invoices under door. We pay email proof and contacted Dixie regarding hot water.well it is now 07h00 still no hot water no alternative accommodation. Got told now by Dixie sorry but it is the owner who wanted his money. So do not stay here do not let them lie or bullshit you. STAY AWAY, AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Maybe it is good enough for backpackers or drunks but not for us.
