Based on recent customer reviews, Hippo.co.za receives overwhelmingly negative feedback centered on aggressive spam calls and data sharing concerns. Customers consistently report being inundated with dozens of unsolicited calls from insurance companies after submitting their details, with many alleging violations of the POPIA Act. Beyond spam, reviewers highlight poor post-sale advisory support, unresponsive consultants, incorrect medical aid applications, and quoted prices that differ significantly from final premiums. Several customers warn others not to use the platform and recommend going directly to insurers or medical schemes instead.

Based on recent customer reviews, this business delivers a consistently strong customer experience anchored by outstanding agent quality and rapid communication. Customers frequently name individual consultants and praise their friendliness, patience, and professionalism. Recurring praise is given to claims and roadside assistance, though a vocal minority report frustrating delays, rejected claims, and poor transparency around premium increases.

Do not share information on the Hippo site.... Against my better judgement I filled out my information on their portal. I have been pestered for 3 days solid by literally hundreds of car insurance sales people, life insurance salespersons and investment companies. I wanted comparative pricing to the insurance I already had, the pricing that I received from Hippo and then the phone calls confirming exactly the information filled out was completely different. With every phone call lasting in excess of 26 minutes each. It seems that the information I filled in on the website was sold to everyone and their dog. With one insurer, whilst I was on the phone with one of their agents I recieved 18 phone calls from the same company while I was confirming what I had filled out on the Hippo site, as well as other incoming calls from other insurers. Then at the end of the discussion, the premium quoted was over R600 more than what was initially quoted on the list sent by Hippo..... What a total waste of time. One of the so called great insurers increased the premium by more than R200 pm just because of the colour of the vehicle I was buying. If I remember correctly on the Hippo questionaire there was no mention of colour of vehicle anywhere. I do not believe that Hippo actually gives you the best deal, they are driven by money... all the insurance companies that quoted are the mainstream heavy marketers that spend huge amounts of money on marketing, none of which were even close to the insurance company I signed a policy with. So much for the POPI Act.

Re: what you hear is not what you get.l wrote again about Hippo because recently they manage to call back but jp until now I had no real clue what's happening because every time somebody else is contacting me than I have to explain the same things over and over again but nothing seems to happened. I don't know what to do but they introduced me to Discovery health which in turn didn't give me the type of cover that I was asking from them but I had to pay every month for a service that couldn't be rendered for me.

Worst service received from hippo advisory , this past Saturday I took up a medical aid for my mum and sister, the agent on the call said she will procure the previous membership certificate or she will call us and do a conference call, I did tell her my dad is the main member but can they speak to my mother as she was a dependent, she agree, now I am hearing stories that they need to speak to him, what I have trying to be telling them, he is working in an area where it will be difficult to get hold off him and I have been asking for a manager to call back, however no one called, even they said they called to follow up but no one did. I had canceled our medical insurance to move to them, now we have to get this bull**** service, I want to the call recording off the sales call and will be taking this further.

I made the mistake of attempting to use Hippo for business insurance. The site crashed before it could register my account. But guess what: 23 spam calls in two days. To a business phone line. It doesn’t matter how convenient you may think Hippo is, nothing will inconvenience you as much as the spam. Don’t use it!

I compared quotes on hippo for my vehicle, however these people do not understand when you tell them that you are NOT INTERESTED, I have told the same person how many times to remove my number from their list, but still he phones me everyday. I am slowly but surely starting to become beyond myself and lose it!!!! According to the POPIA act you can phone me ONCE and if I say I am NOT INTERESTED to not contact me again. You doing everything thats against POPIA.

I just did a comparison on Hippo and Kind Price came up with a price of R798, wothout any confirmtion I immediately received a call from King Price and the price shoots up significantly. This is really bad advertising and to top it up the consultants keep laughing at me when i brought up the issue, No underwriting changes
