<div>I applied for a Discovery Credit Card in order to secure travel insurance when I was over 80. I was assured there was no upper age limit. However, when I eventually managed to obtain a copy of the policy, I found no insurance was available to anyone over 81 if they are not on Discovery Health. (I had been quite clear I was not on Discovery Health as I am on a company medical aid.)</div>
******* sharing of number with spam callers. I purchased an MTN SIM a few months ago as a back-up (2nd SIM) in my dual SIM phone. I have never used the SIM or give the number to anyone. But I get 3-4 spam calls a week on this number. Only MTN could have provided this number. In contrast, the other SIM that I use from a different cell company, receives virtually no spam calls at all even though this number is disclosed on the signature of every email I send and in many other places.
The process of joining Discovery is unbelievably painful and torturous. After the initial application, access to all bank statements was requested. A reasonable and understandable request, and the statements were provided the same day. Then the fun started. Despite having all the information in the bank statements, pension statement was then requested, then copies of leases. Each step took days and lengthy phone call to establish why the delay and what was required. Communication with Discovery is unsatisfactory. Unlike Bank Zero, Nedbank and Standard, there is no chat facility - only telephone, with not even a call back provision. Long, expensive cell phone calls are the norm. Even SARS does better! And when the card was delivered with the message "activate in the App", one couldn't. More long calls established than the message was faulty - it would be some indeterminate number of hours before the card appeared.
Despite turning off all marketing communication options (there are 6!) MTN continues to send marketing messages. The message says send *135# to Opt out but that does not work. How can one stop ALL messages?
I ordered two lithium batteries from them because delivery was promised by the end of April. When they advised me that they were unable to meet the promised delivery, I cancelled the one order as I was going overseas for 3 months and needed it before I went. They promised a refund. 3 months, many emails, phone calls later and many promises later I had still not received a refund. I had to resort to legal action. Within 24 hours the refund was paid. But the legal costs were nearly 50% of the refund owing!
Poor pickup and drop-off arrangements and no invoice one week after conclusion of rental with an R11 000 credit card hold (for a R9000 fully insured rental) still in place a week after rental ended.
Takelot logistics has become totally confused. I have one order that has been lost /resent/delivered/not-delivered/broken 6 times in two weeks. And they cancelled an order because they were out of stock of Castle Lager! More worrying, a large ticket item (R10 000) was out of stock within a month and has not been replaced, so any warranty is worthless.
Have used Takelot for years and always excellent service. But suddenly their whole logistics system seems to have collapsed in chaos. Order after order cancelled, rescheduled, cancelled again, out of stock (of beer!), etc, etc. Watch out Takelot. Amazon will be here soon...
I moved to Cell C about 15 years ago when I retired and wanted to reduce my cell phone costs. My contract price for 30 mins and 500 Mb is only R34.50 pm! (I purchase my own handset.) By using mainly WiFi calling, this allowance is enough most months. And if it isn't, I simply purchase a very reasonably priced top up - a few times a year at most. Another pleasant surprise was to find that on a recent trip to Mauritius for a month, all my SMS messages were delivered at no cost. (I have a dual SIM phone so always insert a local SIM when traveling.) Service from Cell C the few times I have needed it has been excellent.
My wife and i have owned 5 Subarus over a period of 27 years. I have dealt with Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town branches. The service and support has been uniformly excellent. By far the best cars we have ever owned. Two of our cars ran for over 20 years without a single fault.
