Very bad service but nowhere else to go with faulty Defy appliances. The service has a decent looking website and online service application, but to get a response, or even an acknowledgement of a service request, seems to be impossible.
I was looking for a trailer to hire from near Kuilsrivier in the Cape to Stilbaai and back. Trailerhire in Brackenfell was the best I could find after looking at a few - cheapest, sufficient variety of sizes, no extra costs due to the distance of about 700 km, no deposit required, the pick-up took about an hour, but the drop-off was done in less than 10 minutes. Highly recommended.
Excellent telephonic first consultation of rain damage to my house. No excess payment will be required. It seems like everything will be concluded satisfactorily.
Punctual, well organized, but make sure that you do understand their fees ito luggage. All the extra options affecting costs, are not very clear.
I recently ordered five Laser Distance Measure instruments from Amazon.com. Because of shipping and import costs, five were far cheaper per unit than one. Compared to what is directly available in South Africa from stores and from Takealot, the Amazon product was of higher performance and about 33% cheaper, everything included. Delivery was faster than initially indicated, tracking was possible and the units were delivered at my home.
We got stranded in New Zealand due to Covid-19 restrictions on international travel, changing our planned 7 weeks holiday into 6 months. So we ended up touring much more of New Zealand than what was originally planned, and we made twice use of timeshare weeks through Flexi Club. Flexi Club organized two excellent places for us, and what surprised me is that the Flexi Club points seemed to be internationally of equal value, so the timeshare cost us similar amounts of points in New Zealand as it would have cost in South Africa for comparable luxury. This is excellent because would we have paid in Rands, it would have cost us far more in New Zealand because accommodation in New Zealand is far more expensive than in South Africa.
A family member of mine got a quote from The Courier Guy to transport 3 suitcases from Johannesburg to Cape Town, after sending them the dimensions and mass of each. The quote was reasonable, it was accepted and paid, the suitcases were picked up and transported. Afterwards my family member's account was charged with extra cost based on so-called charged masses. The Courier Guy's actual masses for the 3 suitcases agreed sufficiently with the masses that were sent to them for the quote and the required upfront payment, but the charged masses were roundabout 80% more. Their quote mentioned nothing of any extra cost that would occur. Based on this, The Courier Guy's service is terrible, dishonest and an exploitation.
My wife and I were very hopeful for PrintOnDemand (Bellville) to do our printing jobs, since they've done a very good job a few years ago of printing her book. After a long struggle, my wife made the first contact, but thereafter, even after several attempts, she could not even get any response, never mind a quote from them. I was initially more fortunate. Stella and Vernon responded to me, and all seems fine. I accepted their quote of R121.81 (VAT excluded) per book for 50 books of 321 C5 pages, full colour for all pages, as specified in their quote. This quote was sent to me on 21/11/2019 and I accepted it on 22/11/2019. Certain details had still to be sorted, such as the ISBN number and some empty pages were added, but these did not cause them to redo anything. Yesterday, 12/12/2019 I got a new quote from them, R194.98 (VAT excluded) per book for 50 books of 328 C5 pages, full colour for all pages, as was specified from the start. They claimed that the colour pages were the reason for the price increase, but this is simply not the case, because I originally got quotes from them for black and white, and colour pages. Obviously I complained to both Stella and Vernon, and I sent them their 21/11 quote, but no response up to now.
Although we had some excellent and very enjoyable holidays with Flexi Club, over about 20 years, I must agree with the many people who have serious problems with Flexi Club. Flexi Club actually forced us to keep on increasing our points and of course with extra costs every time. Now we are sitting with about 20000 points per year, and the meaning of being a perpetuity member is only becoming clear to us now. It is apparently impossible to get rid of the Flexi Club shares without legal costs (check e.g. Trudie Broekmann attorneys) or by selling it yourself to someone else who must then carry on with the yearly payments. After death of the timeshare holder, their inheritors will be liable for the timeshare costs, whether the timeshare was specified in the will or not, and they must keep on paying the costs. Timeshare companies were reported because of this and eventually the law authorities in SA made a ruling telling them that they should give members the option to get out. Flexi Club came up with a solution, but is again trying to make money in the process. In my case, my only option according to them is to become an elite member, with the option of 7, 9, 12, 15 or 20 years membership, meaning the perpetuity scheme falls away immediately. The 7 years is the cheapest and will cost me R23000, payable within one year. Why is there no cheaper option such as 0, 1 or 3 years? Why is there no option such as to reduce my points and to become an elite member? My 20000 point per year is far more than the 12500 points required for elite membership. When asking this to the 3rd representative of Flexi Club who tried to sell the 7 year option to us, the only answer she could give was to explain in detail how the R23000 was determined. They also tried to convince us how much money we can make by getting 10 bonus breaks per year, which one must buy and can then be sold to others for much more. But if this was so easy to do, why don't Flexi Club do that selling at higher prices themselves? Obviously this scheme is not going to be nearly as profitable, if at all, for the client as they try to picture it. When asking the 3rd representative if there is no other way to get out of Flexi Club, she said we'll have to go to court. So my advice is to stay clear of Flexi Club, unless you want to enjoy the benefits but are willing to become a captive, including your inheritors. Hopefully the law authorities in SA will force the fraudulent schemes of timeshare companies soon to come up with proper solutions.
The personal air cooler CoolAir is advertised on various sites on internet. The impression is that it will be delivered in a few days, no shipping costs. Actually it is shipped from China, only to be discovered after ordering. Once paid per credit card, I discovered that about 10% was added to the advertised price. I ordered 5 units, they arrived one by one, 6 plus weeks after ordering, and I had to pay R26 or R37 per unit at the Post Office where I had to collect it. Why the difference between identical units, I could not figure out. On one unit, I was told to pay R627 extra at the Post Office, which I refused; I then had to write a letter, telling whoever decided on the extra costs (probably SA Customs), that they must have made a mistake. So that unit was sent back to Customs by the Post Office to fix their error. Now, 7 weeks after ordering I have 3 of the 5 units. I had to fix two of them; they were leaking water. I opened them, up to the point that will have to be done in future, if the units last that long, to change their water absorbing "filters". This changing of filters, was only discovered after reading the instructions, which also is not known before receiving the unit. These filters will probably have to be ordered from China, not recommended at all by me. When opening the units, it is apparent how terrible the quality is. The leaking is probably due to a crude valve system that does not work properly, therefore all the water in the filler tank on the side runs into the container at the bottom, causing it to overflow. The "solution" is apparently not to fill the tank on the side more than 50%, which is nowhere specified. Many of the plastic brackets inside the units are broken, so most things are lose and/or flimsy. The unit can still basically work with them broken, but it clearly shows that the unit is totally overpriced for such a low quality and cheap design. The mini USB port on the unit, looking at my 3 units, are badly aligned, or so lose that it is hard to plug the USB cable into it (it needs this to power the unit). I shall leave the cable attached, because it will surely break the wiring in future when reconnecting it a number of times. On the box, it is written that the unit is 350 W. In the instructions booklet it is specified to be 10 W. This is not due to input and output power being specified, the input power is roundabout 10 W. The 350 W is totally wrong. Is the unit working at all? Yes, a little bit as could be expected from such a product, but it is noways worth the trouble and costs. It should have been 10 times cheaper.
